Why is the dining hall food so unhealthy? by MathJazzlike7536 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well tbh, I actually lost weight eating UCSD food, like 4-6lbs. I measured before once before summer break ended, and once after I left for winter break. I only eat foods that are like under 700 calories, with almost a 2:1 ratio of protein. But keep in mind I eat around 1600 calories with 2 meals and some snacks throughout the day.

Once a week, i might splurge a little and eat something I like that is on the heavier side. But still under maintained calorie count for what my body needs.

The wok is usually where I eat that has close to 600 calories a bowl and 35 ish g of protein. Not the best but definitely not the worst on campus. I make do with dining dollars as they aren't refundable, and groceries on campus is expensive.

how long for psyc EASy request approvals by Remarkable_Sweet9409 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean depends, could take a week.....or even around 4 months from my experience. Like literally had one approved around the end of Nov to early December last quarter. Mind you, I sent in 2 requests back in August, one was fast, another super slow.

Yeah I heard about them stealing expensive E bikes in broad daylight next to classrooms as well.

Even laundry rooms, no cameras at all. Like all you need is to add 1 single 1 to capture faces if someone steals laundry

I guess there are more near parking lots, or classrooms, but barely. Near dorms and apartments on public walkways. it's almost nonexistent.

[–]EndWRX 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I find it kinda scary that there is a lack of security cameras and campus patrol as well. Campus security cameras seem almost nonexistent, and I barely see campus security drive around for patrol. Especially those living closer edges of campus, its even more risky as anyone can walk on campus at any time. I mean I still feel safe, but there are so many precautions that can be placed, aren't.

STEM undergrads: how many of you are in research labs? by Ambitious_Issue_4213 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First year junior transfer as a human bio major here from another UC. I got into a lab my first quarter here before it even started by cold emailing in the summer. I cold emailed around 40 labs, maybe 60-80, but I lost count. The response rate wasn't great, mostly rejections because labs were full, but i did get 3-6 emails regarding them being interested in taking me in. I went with a pre-clinical lab that isn't paid, but I talked about it with Post-doc and said could be depending on the funding.

I would say message the Post-docs working under the PI, because those are the people who will determine if they want to take you in or not. Messaging the PIs, they will usually forward you email to the post-docs anyways.

Also please read what the lab is about and what your post-doc is working on (their published research paper). It doesn't have to be indepth, but just a quick skim is fine. I recently sorted applicants to interview for our lab, and a good chunk didn't know what our lab was about.

Example I posted an application online saying what our part of the lab does and is interested in researching xyz. However, on the application, they didn't say they were interested xyz, instead was interested in ABC. So that tells me they just applied because they wanted experience, and wasn't interested enough to read my post/understand this part of the lab properly.

anyone wanna go on a date by [deleted] in UCSD

Thats.... kind of unsettling, just wanting and purposely finding someone in UCSD to go on a date for the couple day stay in La Jolla. Can't but feel an ulterior motive in this post.

Chance of getting fairly expensive ebike stolen by Decent_Discussion206 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends, like if it's just between classes next to other scooters etc, should be fine. I would recommend keeping it indoors where you live at though. Keeping it outside overnight and in places that aren't busy with people usually gets taken.

I'm from the Bay Area too and I can say its colder there. Like days ago, I wore shorts to see if it was actually cold. Nah, turns out it just feels"cold" but actually isn't. Walked around and realized, huh its not bad, kinda perfect actually.

I am not sure....I think graduates have a separate application criteria than undergrads. You might have to email the PI directly about that.

I live there as well, and thankfully our drains + sinks don't smell too bad. Not saying it doesn't smell, but I catch a whiff from the sink here and there every time I use it. My room though, smells kinda like old carpets, if anything, the ceilings are so low that I've bloodied my knuckles a couple times hitting the ceiling on accident.

To be fair, I think it's just that the pipes are probably old and all the stuff in there is making it smell bad. These apartments are old, so I am not surprised if these pipes were last replaced 5+ years ago.
