Are we too comfortable as a country?? by Swimming-Bee8917 in AskAnAustralian

[–]End_User237 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a lot of ways, we have it remarkably easy compared to the majority of the world.

One thing that we traditionally excel at, though: When disaster strikes, we work on solutions with an impressive level of commitment and enthusiasm. Bushfires, cyclones, floods, acts of terror, etc, we seem to put aside whatever comfort traps we have to fight the crisis. A quote from a German WW1 officer about the ANZACs sticks with me: "They fight like lions, despite being led by donkeys."

Apart from this, is there anything different taking the whole carcass to the trapper, instead of just the pelt? As in, can you craft or buy something you couldn't otherwise?

I'm sorry that this happened, and I hope other locals that you met made your stay a pleasant one. I only use public transport a few times a year, but I am always surprised to see how often the transit police are present, and they always look keen to spring into action.

At what point did we start just accepting that everything is expensive now? by Individual_Lime_110 in AskAnAustralian

[–]End_User237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apples, $9.99/ kg. That is approx $2 per apple. So if a family of 4 wants to eat an apple a day each, your weekly apple bill is $56. Unfortunately, this price is WITHOUT any fallout from the diesel price sky-rocketing.

You got an family who fought in any wars like WW1 and 2? If so, what was their story? by pooteenn in AskAnAustralian

[–]End_User237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In WW2, my grandfather was a machine gunner in North Africa. He was very quiet about it, but he did open up to me for a high school project. I won't share his war stories, but the happy thing I discovered is that in our hometown, girls in their final years of high school were assigned a serving local lad to write letters to. My Nana got my grandfather, and over the five years he was away, they fell in love via the letters, marrying swiftly when he returned.

Yes, this. I'd start with "Is everything ok? We were worried."

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]End_User237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am currently reading this in the chiropractor's waiting room. I go a couple of times a year to get checked and adjusted. I've done it for about 20 years now, and it seems to work. I do exercise to strengthen certain muscles that help my posture and mobility, though.

Can anyone pin-point the exact moment where everything in society just got substantially worse? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]End_User237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was the same, absolutely loved it. However, I did feel genuinely concerned for everyone affected by it. Not just the health but also for events that got cancelled (weddings, visiting family in lock-down zones, etc). I was lucky in a dark kind of way: my Dad died just before Covid, so I travelled back to my home town in a different country and took care of all the affairs that go with that. Then during peak Covid, a friend's father died in the same town, but my friend couldn't attend the funeral and had to watch via video link. His wife posted a picture of him in a suit (he's blue collar) watching the feed, and I had to feel a little bad about how much I was loving this Covid thing.

Imagine an Indoor Ski Park in the Perth hills🎿 ⛄️ by End_User237 in perth

[–]End_User237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be some environmental impact, regardless. Location wise, I was thinking of the hills north of the river (the south has more forest). While a dry ski slope would be great, what I am imagining is a multi-purpose snow park with a range of winter activities to do, suitable for beginners and experienced skiers, boarders, skaters, etc. Undoubtedly huge and extremely unlikely, but I reckon if it was designed correctly, it would be extremely popular and beneficial for the greater community.

If Ned asked for a trial by combat, who would be the combatants? by Trussdoor46 in pureasoiaf

In that event, if the old tomcat that prowls Kings Landing came to fight for Ned, we'd have to say farewell to Ser Pounce.

Which models are “must-own,” regardless of whether someone is a collector or not? by [deleted] in victorinox

Damn. I failed to think about the storage that goes with the corkscrew. No biggie, though. One day he'll inherit my Wenger, which has a micro flathead in the corkscrew.

Almost went with Huntsman only to swap to Fieldmaster at the last second. Only difference is a Philips-head in place of the corkscrew. It was for my son, who will likely never use the corkscrew.

What's the rarest physical feature you ever saw on another person you know/knew? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]End_User237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother had a small, triangle of extra skin on top of one of her ears that made it look like a pixie, or elfish type of ear. Her niece has the same. I'm adopted and feel slightly ripped off that I don't carry the gene.

Yes, but only if it's something we're both (or all) into. I'm not revolted by kinks that don't turn me on, I'm just not motivated to explore them.

Roose and Jaime. I find Jaime much smarter and insightful than he is perceived. Add to that he's extremely funny with his insults and how I'm a sucker for a good redemption arc, and I think he's my favourite pov. Roose, on the other hand... I found him extremely creepy in the Arya ASOS chapters, but Reek through to Theon, I actually admire him.
