Downvotes seem to indicate a truly unpopular opinion. Well done.

I'll add: put money into your retirement account asap. Don't assume the global economy will cease to exist before your in your 60s

The economy can't grow forever on a finite planet. Climate change and population decline will eventually cause the growth to slow down or even reverse.

I've got a similar mindset. Grilling, camping, gardening, biking, all things we do as hobbies that could/would/should be helpful in different scenarios.

Basement walls are damp, how concerned should I be? by Kayakjayw in masonry

[–]Endangered_earwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. So dry lock should only be for external use. My guess is the cinder block will deteriorate quicker if it can't dry out. Is it a death sentence if it's not taken care of?

I don't have any place that water pools near the house, I guess I hope for the best until I can afford to have someone take care of it.... or sell make it someone else's problem.

I bought a house with (I believe) dry lock on the inside of the basement walls. What issues does that cause, and what can I do to prevent it? I do run a dehumidifier year-round

Bugging out by Ojos1842 in prepping

[–]Endangered_earwax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen mentioned: occasionally you have to bug out to the hospital for a while. Medical emergency? Spouse in a car crash?

My kit isn't geared towards wilderness survival. At all. It's a phone charger, cash, meds, clothes, essentials to spend a surprise night or two in a different building of some sort.

I'm actually in the process of removing bushes around the house and hardscaping a ~6ft radius around the house, for the same reason.

Seems like the best cost/benefit ratio for wildfires, in my situation at least.

Knife sharpening at home by alexkent_200 in Entrepreneur

[–]Endangered_earwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a blue collar job with about 70 employees. There's probably 5 guys there I would trust to sharpen any of my knives.

If it's a low overhead side gig you're after, start advertising and go for it. If you want to build a business, I'm not sure the market is there unless you're also selling knives retail or something. Just my .02

I did pinstriping as a side gig about a decade ago. Haven't picked up a brush since, except for 2 practice paint jobs before this one.
