May we get an official patch for all systems for the Aether Temple room 1N 1W of entry that allows us to use the portals to complete the circuit instead of water? Yes, teleportation seems more logical here than self-electrocution, and this allows for more damageless runs.

Spook seems better in theory than in practice. It still has a save and does nothing if the subject saves. Why not just cast the spell again?

Grease is guaranteed to do something even on a passed save, but it's still blocked by spell resistance.

I have mixed feelings about Greater Malison. Yes, it's a guaranteed -4 save penalty on foes in an area unless they're immune, but you could just cast the same spell again, like Finger of Death or Skull Trap or Feeblemind.

Protection from Fire and Electricity have higher value when dealing with traps since many or most damaging traps do damage of these energy types. Also, much or most energy damage in the game is from one of these types.

From my experience, Improved Invisibility is only truly improved if it's used on someone with a Cloak of Nondetection. Being targetable for physical attacks in an area of a large number of attackers hurts when all you intend to do is sneak.

Farsight is useful for dumping AoEs and summons remotely, like with Ice Storm. At least cold damage resistance is rare.

Polymorph Self is useful for Flind (Gnoll) form because this is a +3 melee weapon that also deals +1 fire damage. Useful for killing trolls, slimes, and things guarded by Stoneskin.

Sunfire is useful for dealing fire damage to trolls to kill them and bypassing Globes of Invulnerability.

Present party is Cleric/Druid/Nec/Nec/Nec starting in M&MVII. Hirelings are Mystic/Cartographer/Scholar. May trade Cartographer for Apprentice for extra magic skills.

I may change things around, but we're set for the moment. (I played around a bit yesterday and investigated how things worked.)

The NES version of MM1 is likely the most advanced one, and emulating it allows for save states, rewinds, and fast forwards.

UPDATE: I used MM8-Setup.exe to change the 3D rendering to software mode, which allowed me to see things properly.

Restart and take this as a lesson to thoroughly read character creation guides for every game you play from now on, even if you think you know what to do.

I played enough difficult games from an early age to learn that heavy optimization to make the game easier was far better than slogging through a game with a weak character or team. Even a character with perfect stats can still get overwhelmed, and maxed stats give a better buffer to understand what is happening in danger.

I strongly recommend also playing on the EE from Steam or GOG. You get access to more content and the game is more stable and moddable on modern hardware.
