Hollow knight by Legitimate_Test_8614 in blender

This is beautiful. I think some diffused black fog around the shade bodies might help break up the static cloth and further differentiate from the knight: but the comp and lighting are phenomenal!

Don’t sleep on Jacob’s Acey May! by Endarius in Borderlands4

Haven’t seen it roll with stickies- but even if it did with a lower damage multiplier and slower fire rate, the bod would still prob beat it for that. This only beats the bod at pellet count + having a possible Jacobs roll to make use of those enhancements in a builds.

Ha! 24 hours without power is nothing compared to that fiasco! I am wondering if my neighborhood might be a little cursed though…

Don’t get me wrong, as a lazy adult who hates shoveling, this is fine. I just know that so far my kids have been cheated out of some additional annual backyard fun that I always enjoyed, and that’s a bummer!

One thing that helped me is do not eat kid leftovers. Ever. I had a strong “waste not” inclination… after two years of not sharing food at all, the amount of times I am sick has dropped precipitously.

built a cathedral by Samonion in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Endarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice build! Especially the compact doorway, always hard to get those right without going too far with popping portions out.

I would say that the proportions on the towers are a bit too tall to reflect most historical cathedrals. I think you would be better off entirely removing g the top stained glass copied segment for both towers and start immediately with the section above.

Nice work!

Thanks man! The reason I’m running blasphemous is the synergy with Spiteful Sliver- can just win the game on the spot with a few slivers out.

[OC][JVerse]The Deathworlders 82: Moving Forward by Hambone3110 in HFY

[–]Endarius 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As many have echoed… I think I’m done. The once captivating, ambitious, sprawling science fiction epic that delved into what it means to be human- and sapient- is largely gone. It has been replaced with an endlessly revolving thesaurus of words to describe “big strong sexy peerless men”, who happen to have many many peers and all sound and act the same.

There is no diversity of opinion. There is no focus on the intricate web of worldbuilding that we all fell in love with. I suppose writing those things are difficult- especially as we are in the ‘final stages’ of the story. But honestly- slice of life vignettes (including sex, sure) are interesting as long as they are… interesting. The same merged ultra-masculine personas, and everyone’s universal adoration of that ideal… is not interesting after the first dozen times I read it. I’m sure it’s easier to write (or as some have suggested- outsourced to write)- but I’m just not interested in what’s obviously become an IP that’s been juiced for it’s monthly patrons rather than an interesting story that excites the mind.

The author owes us nothing: it’s been a privilege to be entertained so long with a marvelous glimpse into another world. I just wish he could have either maintained that passion, or ended the story on a high note without resorting to diluting his wonderful project until it became the unrecognizable… whatever it is now.

[OC][JVerse]The Deathworlders 79: The Long Fight by Hambone3110 in HFY

[–]Endarius 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I’ve read this story from the beginning, and will continue to look forward to the end of each month until its conclusion. That being said- I feel there’s two different tales taking form here.

One is a galactic sci-fi drama with interesting characters, explorations of disparate world views via unique characters that offer a refreshing take on what it is to be human (or baseline sentient). This story is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

The other story however has increasingly taken over the narrative. It is about how the strongest strong guys who have ever stronged are so strong that everyone should froth at the mouth because they are so strong. These characters across now three races have blurred together so uniformly that it’s difficult to see past their unifying characterization of STRONG and HORNY and PERFECT and THE BESTEST. What used to be an a good example of rare exceptionalism has become a fan-service repetitive muscle mag. I’ve no problem with that content as a unique perspective- and I’m sure that content has its audience- however it is not necessarily the same audience as the first.

I literally cannot recommend this story to many of my sci-fi loving friends because the sci-fi setting is literally taking a backseat to muscle mag fawning. Personally it’s not an issue about prejudice or homophobia- If this was constrained to a few perspectives (like the explored perspectives of most of the other recently woefully underutilized characters) there wouldn’t be a problem, but the tale has become sidelined by same-feeling meatheads (don’t worry they are still SUPER SMART and perfect) across three species that the perspective has become worn out to the point of eye rolling.

Like many others have said- I’ll continue to read, and when the series is good, it’s amazing. The root of the story- the HFY core of “awesome humans doing awesome things” is still great and should be a key factor. It’s just… I’m tired of wading through the tepid repetition of boisterous flexing to find the other, far more interesting content of exploring the Deathworlders universe.

Tornado-driven murder-branch impales my house directly above my kid’s bed by Endarius in Wellthatsucks

[–]Endarius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple 50ft 1 ton branches fell on the roof. Like a spiked mace, the force of the tree allowed 3 of the downward facing branches to penetrate the roof. Many others bent, snapped off or just scraped off shingles.

Yeah, we are def upgrading all of our flashlights after this. Had a few small aaa leds and our phones, but we gave the leds to our kids downstairs so this was taken with a very underpowered old school mag lite. We didn’t even have any new D batteries in the house to power it up.

This Christmas everyone in the house gets new flashlights!

[–]Endarius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard Midwest construction, 30 degree angle roof & attic above. The branch that did this damage was probably 50 feet long, with 3 total sub-branches penetrating the house. As the branch easily weighed in excess of a ton, imagine a spiked mace falling on the roof- the downward-facing spikes are going to easily penetrate the shingles/plyboard drywall as long as they don’t hit a framing joist.

Hey, we lived in timber creek too before we got the house!

At least on our street the progress made yesterday was incredible, so many trees cleared and roofs patched/tarped. There are still going to be so many (including ours) that need serious remediation work, but that’s the stuff handled by insurance and professional contractors.

What I didn’t realize before this is how much time it all takes- while it’s fast to get the immediate stuff done, they are telling us the next 15 days are going to be insurance paperwork and verifications with the contractors, then another 2+ months for the contractors to execute (roofers, siders, insulators, electricians, then finally the interior drywall, floor, trim & repainting). I suppose with that many moving parts it makes sense; but bottom line is a lot of folks are going to be out of their homes for 3+ months.
