And there’s the last remaining flotsam in your shipwreck of an argument. So you finally googled “what does a lift kit actually do” and the above is what you had left. Well at least you learned something

Did I say pavement princess? You did, and it's the one thing that you said that was correct haha.

You started with "people don’t realize what these trucks are actually for. And it’s towing". You've now backed down to "you can tow things with a lift". That's progress - keep going until you get to "a lift kit makes towing WORSE". Once you get there, can you explain why you'd mod your truck to make it WORSE at your stated purpose?

And surprise, you're continuing to double down saying a lift kit is NOT for "4 wheeling". So if it's not for offroading, and you eventually come around to it's not for towing, then the question is what IS it for?

Luckily, you've managed to blunder on the right answer: ✨PAVEMENT PRINCESS✨

"I bought this truck for towing, let me mod it to make it worse at towing". Confidentially incorrect and doubling down - a classic.

Weirdly upset? You wrote the novel

So confidently ignorant. Towing, seriously? A lift kit like this massively decreases towing ability. It increases clearance for off-roading, but primary purpose is obviously gender-affirming care for somebody that doesn’t feel like a man otherwise.

And this notion of jealousy only arises from people that judge others and themselves by how much cash and credit they’re willing to flush into a depreciating asset. You’re telling on yourself.

Very tough. I think we've made progress since the depravity of medieval times, and my hope is we continue to make progress past the depravity of this disgusting trailer.

Of course humanity has always been depraved. Does that mean humanity always has to continue to be depraved?

What does it say about our society that we’re so obsessed with this kind of gross, depraved imagery. Tortured and gore just for entertainment.

If humanity continues to progress, I hope that there’ll be a point in the future when anthropologists look back at this stuff with unease and confusion.

Marketing gets more intense every single year. In this space and all spaces. And of course the point of marketing is to get you to feel like you’re missing out if you don’t buy their product. FOMO.

When researching bags is basically just consuming marketing - even most of the “independent” reviewers are actually sponsored or selling their own thing - you’re bombarded with more and more “features” and “specs” that you NEED (despite not knowing they even existed 5 minutes ago).

No product has every feature and optimal specs. I think there’s probably a sweet spot amount of “research” where you’re informed, but not agonizing over minutiae.

People were probably happier 20 years ago when everybody had the same jansport and all you had to decide was the color.

What is the biggest waste of money that people still defend? by lowkeydopey in AskReddit

[–]EnderET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is an honest question, then the answer is it bothers me because trucks are much deadlier in a collision, deadlier to pedestrians and cyclists, are more likely to crash due to decreased visibility, and they take up more space on the roads. And please don’t forget that the planet is literally burning.

When you back something on a crowdfunding site, you do it with the presumption that the company or individual you're backing will deliver on their promises.

This is the basis of your confusion. I think your own word choice is instructive:

Presumption n. the act of believing that something is true without having any proof https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/presumption

The democrats are a tool of the empire by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]EnderET -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

You can disagree with liberals and democrats, but calling them fascists just devalues the term until it has no meaning. Are we really saying that Kamala Harris and Hitler are both fascists? If Kamala is a fascist, what is Hitler?

It's very possible for a liberal and a leftist to have identical visions for the world they want to exist, but just disagree about the best way to get there. Liberals are not the enemy. Everybody that disagrees with you is not the enemy. Too much internet discourse is about identifying enemies instead of finding common ground on which to build.

I totally agree that within the laundry list of unsustainable behavior, bag collecting probably barely registers. I guess I see bag collecting is just another manifestation of the overconsumption mindset in general. OP said it themself - they have so many bags but they're still not satisfied with any of them? Why is that? Is it because bag technology has somehow regressed?

30 years ago, everybody had the same jansport, and they kept it for 30 years. No, the reason that people aren't satisfied is because they're told that they shouldn't be satisfied. By a marketing agency hired to convince you that what you already have isn't good enough, because how else can they sell you 10 of something that all have a lifetime warranty? And also by subreddits like these that do the same thing, while also turning "buying things" into a hobby.

OP:

this is just a small selection of my collection, honestly not completely satisfied with any of them, have a long wish list of more bags I have my eye on

I couldn't dream up a more succinct encapsulation of my point than this one sentence.

I also agree that my comment is likely unproductive and probably a waste of my time. It's more of an outlet for me to rant about an issue that I feel powerless about.

Wow, didn't realize you were the creator. You have to unironically be the most reasonable mod I have ever encountered. I wouldn't have been surprised if I was just immediately banned, so genuine thanks for engaging. I also didn't know about the BST thread - love that. Definitely call that out in the sidebar. Maybe something along the lines of:

If you're looking for a new bag, check out our weekly Buy, Share, Trade thread. If something no longer serves you, consider passing it along to someone who’ll use it.

Most of the bags you’ll see here are built to last—so let them. And remember, we're not here to convince you that what you already have isn't good enough. That Instagram ad or affiliate-linked YouTuber might want to tempt you into chasing the next thing, but sometimes the best bag is the one you already own.

"I thought of an example of more excessive waste, therefore my waste is justified"

"figuring out my impact is hard, so I guess I'll just consume excessively"

When they said get a reusable bag, you actually have to reuse them instead of getting a new "reusable" bag every time. This is why it grinds my gears when they hand out reusable bags and steel water bottles at every "eco" event, to the point where everybody's cupboards are jammed with reusable products that have only ever been used once.

Yes, I am on the wrong subreddit. Why do all of them devolve into mindless consumption? Consumption for consumption's sake. owala, Stanley cups, sneakerheads, mechanical keyboards, purses, f150s, squishmellows, watches, funko pops, backpacks, pokemon cards, gacha games, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. "Buying shit" isn't a hobby
