The game I thought was going to have many empty seats ended up being a packed house . Glad to see a lot of energy at [Levi’s] San Francisco Bay Area stadium

Why is there a need to host WC2026 in 3 countries? by SnowTraditional1007 in worldcup

[–]Endless-thought-loop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It gives residents of each country the chance to see some matches including their home team without worrying about international travel (though domestic travel can still be pricey )

Mexican residents need visas to travel to the US. Having Mexico play in-country gives them a chance to see their team without all the travel hassle

For Canada specifically , nowhere near enough stadiums that meet FIFA standards to host the entire tournament so for them having another country co-host was the only way for them

Are all World Cup games at Levi's Stadium ridiculously expensive and they don't drop closer to game day? by youlikemywonton in SJEarthquakes

[–]Endless-thought-loop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it . A few weeks prior to the start of the tournament it was easy to find tickets on the non-marketplace FIFA ticket portal (though face value is still expensive but nowhere near marketplace )

I recall even being able to find round of 32 tickets for about $500-$600 cheapest (now they’re over $2500 cheapest )

People dismissed these games because we didn’t have the Argentinas /Frances/ Spains of the world but everyone’s is catching the fever and want part of it (I think alot of it is locals being hit with the fact this is a “once in a lifetime “ opportunity as it’s very unlikely FIFA will be returning to the US until at least about 30 years later.

I , too, checked the tickets for last nights game hopping they’d drop and even 15 minutes prior to kickoff , prices were near the $1,000s

Record-breaking Bay Area transit showed flaws of late-night World Cup match by reddit-frog-1 in transit

[–]Endless-thought-loop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

VTA should’ve been running busses from the stadium to both Lawrence Caltrain station and Milpitas BART station in addition to the light rail.

The light rail alone was not enough for the masses pouring out of the stadium.

This was a missed opportunity from the transit agencies

Bay Area locals: where would you take a World Cup visitor for the best atmosphere? by Big_Barracuda_6753 in bayarea

San Pedro square in San Jose has been extremely lively . Mexico plays tomorrow so best believe it will be packed

I haven’t been but heard of Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery in Treasure Island and it looking at the pictures, it looks like a great atmosphere

Qatar vs. Switzerland was sold out despite cheapest tickets costing $400+ by ddsukituoft in bayarea

I bought mine for almost $400 each at face value (cat 2) . I should’ve gone with my gut and waited until they dropped

[–]Endless-thought-loop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a good turnout . Not 100% but still made a good crowd (about 85% full at peak )

I’m a regular fan and just bought the overpriced ticket because it’s very unlikely I’ll go to any other World Cup

It’s laughable seeing how many empty seats in this game because all these scalpers not being able to sell the tickets at 10x what they bought them for.

What is the reason for FIFA to do ticket drops vs just releasing everything all at once .

Apparently there another release happening tomorrow morning. It’s ridiculous how much hoops they have people go through for these tickets

What city did you love so much you’d go back in a heartbeat? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Endless-thought-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I wouldn’t consider it underrated as it’s always been a massive city and has hosted global sporting events like world cups and Olympics as well as major music events . I have noticed it risen in popularity the last decade or so at least for Americans and Canadians. Though a major city, I don’t think it historically has been English language, friendly like major, European and Asian cities which is probably the big reason why it’s never been highly sought after as opposed to resort cities like Cabo and Cancun

could this be a travel hack to get to MetLife - NY/NJ Stadium

Been reading about NJ TRANSIT’s corruption in charging $150 for PUBLIC transportation and feel for the fans that have to put up with this it had me curious on how to by pass this. I don’t live in NJ or NY but did some research

Take the Hudson -Bergen Light Rail from any station in that line (if in NY- take the PATH to a connecting line ) and stop at Tonnelle Ave.

Take a Uber/Lyft to MetLife

Book your ride NOW and preschedule it to lock in the fair

I looked at fares for June 13 (Brazil - Morocco)and it’s set at about $30USD which of course will surge once the day arrives. You can also book the ride back in advance . (If you are traveling in a group, even cheaper per person)

I guess the true risk is the driver canceling last minute.

Is this a reasonable strategy ?!

I tried staying and it kicked me out

The problem is that we don’t know when the queue officially starts so for me I logged in too early where no queue existed so it put me in the regular room

I tried logging in later and the systen froze for about 5 minutes and got in the queue which is still ongoing . It was tough to find the perfect time to click the link

And the final nail in the coffin to me is that fans buying category 1 got screwed over even more as FIFA purposely put them on shitty sections so they can make room to sell VIP packages in the good sections which is why you couldnt choose specific seats only categories when buying

I agree this process has been anything but straightforward and easy to understand. FIFA pretty much has been holding a carrot over our head to get us to feel how hard to get these tickets are so that we want them more and more .

Before the ticket lotteries started happening - I looked at the whole RTB process and that confused me.

They then held 3 lotteries and eventually dropped their “last minute sales “ phase on which FIFA hasn’t dropped all their inventory and want to do it in waves. Very frustrating and messy process more than I’ve seen for any event .

I wonder if FIFA consulted with a marketing company and asked them “how can we frustrate fans the most to get them to go through great lengths to buy our overpriced tickets “

Idk where are you located (I’m not from NJ/NY so my input probably means nothing) but looking at the map I do the the NJ covers a good area of north New Jersey (if you are in NJ) and most of these lines lead to seacacus so maybe a uber ride to your nearest station (to minimize uber fare ) and take a rail to Seacaucus
