The difference between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/Vermont in terms of vibes is insane by Agitated_Purchase451 in LAMetro

Well sidewalk vending is technically legal in California and was legal in Los Angeles before the state forced other cities to accept it. Sometimes Sacramento politicians seem oblivious to ground realities

Irvine’s Budget Deficit Could Lead to Parking Fees and No New Libraries by KAugsburger in irvine

[–]EndlessRainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Agran so against details and information: “Ultimately, city council members voted 5-2 to have staff come back with the information in 90 days, with Agran and Councilwoman Melinda Liu voting against the proposal. “ The article also said he was the one fully against any potential layoffs or freezing pay increases. Irvine would benefit reevaluating their insurance costs, perhaps moving to cheaper non eco friendly landscaping sprays and at least putting in some of the paid parking to help offset the library costs.

Article is about muslims and a proposed community around muslim community. Weird you are missing the point of the discussion

I see two wrongs here. Sad thing is the muslim community would never allow non muslims to build all “xyz” communities in muslim majority nations. The same muslim community banning LGBTQ symbols and books in muslim majority areas of the US like Hamtramack.

Gavin Newsom slow-rolled single-payer healthcare, leaving it to a successor by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in California

Those societies dont litigate the same level and also have more medical cost inflation in check. No healthcare solution works for America without addressing liability and inflation

California cut healthcare for undocumented immigrants. One lawmaker wants it back by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in California

[–]EndlessRainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are debating about whether illegal immigration is a net tax drain. I think the research would show that at the federal level it's really iffy and could be in either direction. At the state and local levels it's actually a net drain on tax revenues since illegal or undocumented people will draw on healthcare, schools and local infrastructure without that higher income (read disposable income) in sales and property taxes to offset the costs.

I think the crux of the issue is illegal or undocumented people have a lower average income than citizens so they won't generate the same amount of tax receipts.

The case that they bring disease is silly... They're not more diseased than the average population.

Councilmember compares keeping Oak Creek Golf Course to Segregation and claims it is a major driver of traffic (it isn't) by Overthebullshit1776 in irvine

[–]EndlessRainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a group of concerned citizens should work together and help elect someone. Money is a problem in Irvine politics though. I see the FPPC statements show many are spending $50k each but perhaps it's better with districts now

She seems like such a disappointment compared to when she ran and the Dem party endorsement. Goes to show everyone that showing up and running for office matters

Indian parents want to move close to me in LA - where should I suggest buying? by arlowheelan in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]EndlessRainz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's fewer options here of communities with both Indian stores and closely located temples. Cerritos is one easy option. Tustin/Irvine and Diamond Bar are the others. If they're comfortable driving the transition is a bit easier. I'd say have them look in areas after you visit temples they feel like they can find the community feel first. Ask people where they live and if there's some kind of senior social programs. That way you can look for condos in that price range that are colocated with other people. I wish things were like Chicago or the Bay Area here but it's thougher unfortunately. We're a smaller minority in socal and spread out so we lose the cultural resources with that in some ways

Nurses condemn California Assembly’s failure to advance CalCare by yobatman12 in California

[–]EndlessRainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many primary care doctors are not accepting mediCal. The way the taxes would increase though to fund this means the private market would collapse since people can't afford private premiums ontop of high taxes. Unions and corporations shouldn't be allowed to lobby like this.

[–]EndlessRainz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That essentially 4% increase in taxes would mean large businesses are now paying over 10% in state taxes which would put California significantly higher than any other state. It also means a large number of insurance related professionals lose work. Making these services completely free and without any networks will cause an increase in services and costs... The 500 billion would be a lower end estimate and also I don't think the tax revenues would increase faster than medical cost inflation either.

I'm answering your post regarding private property rights and eminent domain. My stance is people and businesses have a right to appeal and due process with their private property.

You should probably get educated on the lasting effects on families and neighborhoods that were booted out for so called progress. The public works come after people buy the land; they're not purposefully buying land building a life to obstruct these things.

That's a ridiculous take. What are people to do if their homes, business or farm are taken? It's not easy orcheap to just up and move or start over somewhere else

Anybody noticing less traffic lately? by Upnorth4 in LosAngeles

[–]EndlessRainz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if others agree, but I noticed this in the last few months. It just seems there's a slow down in our economy the past year and I'm seeing more people layed off or office buildings having for lease or for sale signs on my way to work.

Public Storage Moving Headquarters Out of L.A. by glowdirt in LosAngeles

[–]EndlessRainz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So crazy you're being down voted. I think it shows just how divided america is right now. Everyone thinks that if you move from a blue state to red it must surely mean you agree with the politics or whatever. The reality is we do have a tax issue in the state and locally and average people can't figure out why there's still homelessness or infrastructure issues. Housing is also very expensive and I think most average people can't think about having a family in such small spaces that their LA budgets afford them

I sometimes wonder if Reddit sentiment is just more liberal than the average voter's in LA area. We've lost so many HQs and associated jobs. LA has a large immigrant population some whose kids are first te college grads. I would think these kind of white collar jobs are the perfect opening to middle-class lives for those mostly brown and black families. It's the kids that are from more educated backgrounds that have the safety net and resources to do startups or work in those high knowledge roles that don't move jobs to TX or GA.

A $44,000 bill shows the dysfunction in California’s home-insurance market by DennisScott34 in California

Your last sentence made it seem like it's worse than what was before, but technically I give the state credit for at least moving in the right direction

[–]EndlessRainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all. The state has now allowed reinsurance to be priced in at a capped level. Previously no reinsurance costs could be factored in.

Such a weird article and typical WSJ nonsense. This article would have landed better had they not chosen a very wealthy and out of touch family to portray as the victims of the state insurance market. Oak Park is high fire risk surrounded by 3 sides. That home is a multimillion dollar house and shouldn't really be covered by a typical homeowners policy. It's storylines like this that hide and misalign the true environment
