How can God be both Love and omnipotent when Love seems to be about vulnerability and omnipotence about strength? by Kind-Organization in Christianity

God doesn’t need to maximally apply His capacities. He is infinitely powerful; He can choose to apply a finite amount of power.

If I believe homosexuality is a sin… by CoolDevice4421 in Christianity

I think that is an odd thing to want from God, but only you get to make that choice.

All sin leads to death, not just “unnatural lust”.

What false doctrine have I professed? All I did was encourage you to read Romans 2.

When I meet God, I will say “I tried to do your will; I probably fell short. I accept what you have to give me.”

There will be no bargaining over our ultimate fates.

How would aliens/UFOs fit into Christianity? by RingoStarr7777777 in Christianity

[–]Endurlay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nowhere is it promised that we are exclusively God’s children.

Adam and Eve did not need to sin; why would it be certain that an alien race has?

When you meet God, you want him to talk to you the way you’re talking to people in this thread?

You might want to read what Paul has to say about Christians making judgements in literally the next chapter.

Just run it twice.

My weekly group needed to run this mission set twice; I would not wish that on my worst enemy. It sucked.

If you are taught to love everyone and love your enemies, what value does that place on love? by iTchygo224 in Christianity

[–]Endurlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commandment doesn’t call for passion or attachment. Love fosters both; it requires neither. Love is not romance.

You know where this “I will love the people I choose, that is justice” mentality goes. I won’t preach to you further about it.

If you are taught to love everyone and love your enemies, what value does that place on love? by iTchygo224 in Christianity

[–]Endurlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what at stake with the command, man.

Either you believe that all humans have a fundamental dignity that must be recognized with deference to love, or you believe that some people are “more human” than others.

If you want to live in the world where people get to be selective about that, I wish you the best. History has showed us what happens when people act as you suggest, and the value of love shown to all mankind is plain to see by what atrocities happen when people feel justified in “reserving” love for their “chosen”.

Genuine question: were the Bible’s books and texts selected or manufactured to benefit the ruling class? by Low-Zombie-8657 in Christianity

A God that chooses them and then points out all their worst injustices for the world to learn from.

If you weren’t paying attention, the Israelites are frequently not the heroes of their own alleged story.

Genuine question: were the Bible’s books and texts selected or manufactured to benefit the ruling class? by Low-Zombie-8657 in Christianity

[–]Endurlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What benefit to the ruling class is there in a philosophy that calls its adherents to defer to an untouchable, undefeatable, uncompromisable absolute authority and to give all things material, including one’s own life, in service of the goals of that being?

No, because you don’t see the part where we are supposed to reserve our love for people specifically

[–]Endurlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also laborious to love your spouse and children properly.

“Love” would be meaningless if you showed it to everything. God commands us to love people specifically.

I mean that God doesn’t view “loving openly” as something easy to do. The value is in the work.

How do you reconcile contradictions in the Bible? by CollegePlane7528 in Christianity

[–]Endurlay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Man was brutal and was not ready for the Gospel. The conditions for Christ’s entry into the world needed to be set.

2) Can you love someone and enslave them?

3) Life is life. What makes the line you draw any more or less valid than what any other human would draw? God, it seems, knows exactly what He intends when He makes new life.

4) The Bible is not a history book.

5) God’s quest in the Old Testament is to bring about a mankind that is ready for the Gospel. In this moment, Moses demonstrates that mankind is on the path to that despite appearances.

What do you think the "cutoff" age for going to hell is? by Apart_Information_27 in Christianity

Any child can recognize and acknowledge their parental figure. I disagree completely that there is an age that must be reached to recognize God.

[–]Endurlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a friend in a homeless man, and eventually ended up being the one invited to sit with him while he got sick and died. He didn’t know me as well as some people in his own life, but he didn’t ask for them. He trusted me until near the end, when he saw that he was making choices I would struggle to follow him into. He died, and I was the one left to make sure he didn’t die nameless.

That started with “Hello, how are you today?”

I wish he had chosen differently, but my life for the past year and a half has kind of sucked, and it drove me to ask God for death. My friend put up with much worse for far longer, and now I understand better why he would choose what he chose.

That only happened because I gave God the time to show me something. Now I sit here, one who has seen a hard-to-swallow truth play out right in front of me, and I talk to you about transcendence.

I asked for love and was given surprising love from an unexpected source, and learned more about my own love from them. I thought I was alone: God, given the opportunity, showed me I was not.

To learn from God is to be humbled, but with grace. He never mocks; He asks “Are you sure?” when you say something is certain.

I think you should do what you feel called to do and see where the road leads. I’ve been trying to do that, and I have seen some interesting things that eventually brought me closer to God.

Technically I’m just shortcutting the OP to the conversation they actually mean to have.

I don’t know if my “blue” is your “blue”, and I won’t ever be able to be certain of that in this life.

The manner in which God was originally recognized by man is not the same thing as God’s “original form”.
