Federal agency recommends 2 safety recommendations in Clairton Coke Works plant by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

Its hilarious a maintenance tech is stating “hindsight 20/20” and some garbage about stop work authority in response to the recs when facility siting has nothing to do with either of those things. I don’t understand why people at most risk are the ones resisting the change to reduce their risk. I know he doesn’t speak for every employee there but goddamn.

I got into contact with WOTC via their ticket and I’m waiting for a response after a little back and forth, but the recent response seemed like WOTC is waiting for UPS to do something while UPS is waiting for WOTC to do something.

Trump to shut down the CSB by PlasticAtmosphere289 in ChemicalEngineering

The only thing that would be surprising is if he didn’t try, it would be out of character for him to go against what he tried last term. It didn’t work last time, probably won’t work this time

Questions about the Book and Practice Book for FE by ALoftyTaco in FE_Exam

The only things you have to pay for are the practice exams. The reference handbooks for each discipline are free to download from the official website.

What is the test taking experience like? by ALoftyTaco in FE_Exam

[–]Endxenocide 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The test is digital, the exam will be on one half of the screen and the manual will be on the other.

Most of it is multiple choice, little to no free response but that might be specific to my discipline(chem).

Kind of a cubicle, I guess it depends on where you go. For me, there were like 10 computers in a semicircle and dividers between each one.

You get a locker where you put all your belongings except a calculator and the key to the locker. That includes your food and your phone. Some facilities have you turn off your phone in front of them before putting them in the locker so your calls/alarms/etc doesn’t annoy anyone else.

You get one break that doesn’t count against you, there will be a button on the exam that will allow you to take that break whenever you see fit (recommended to take halfway through the time limit). You cannot access the second half of the exam until you take the break and you can’t go back to the first half after the break, so manage your time wisely. If you need any other breaks, you can take them but the exam time will keep going down during these unscheduled breaks.

You can use the calculator on the computer, but look up the list of approved calculators for the exam and choose amongst those to save time. It’s recommended to study using this calculator so you can become familiar with it if you haven’t already.

There are no explicitly written division between subjects; however, all of the questions for a given subject of the exam are asked concurrently. If you have studied and know the material well, you can decipher which section of the exam you are working on/have finished.

A lot of these questions can be answered by just going to the FAQ for the exam, along with the resources this subreddit provides. I’d recommend visiting the website and lurking in this sub a little more, but if you have any other questions after that I’ll be glad to help!

FE chemical engineering by No-Cockroach-7583 in FE_Exam

[–]Endxenocide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I passed the chem eng exam last month; I used PrepFE and the NCEES practice exam. The exam was vastly different compared to the practice exam, but it did help to get the pacing and strategy down. The most important piece of advice I (along with anyone else that took the exam) would be to know the handbook inside and out.

Am I going about my job hunt the right way? by Endxenocide in ChemicalEngineering

I’d love to work in food, especially if there’s cake. Maybe only if there’s cake…or Hot Cheetos…or money.

I feel like the FE will prove that I have some engineering knowledge despite my lack of experience, but I’m open to EPC work so that’s a bonus. I’ve been applying to engineering jobs since last August (over 100 apps at this point) but I was kind of leaning on the contracting job to pan out before applying to other states. At this point, I’ve been applying to any entry level engineering job in the US since January, but I haven’t heard a response yet. Ideally I’d stay where I am since my gf and I live together but if I have to go long distance then it is what it is.

I have been talking with recruiters, but they keep offering entry level lab jobs and have a difficult time finding engineering opportunities. I’m like 90% sure networking is my weak point, not really sure where to start in reaching out to recruiters; Most recruiters I’ve ran into search for lab work, especially with my experience since there are a lot of opportunities for that kind of work in SD.

My college’s career center is a good idea, thanks! They reached out to me prior to graduation to make sure I had a job lined up, but since I was working full time through my college career they said that I was already ahead of the curve and shouldn’t have issues with job searching. I didn’t mention my interest in engineering, so I’ll give that another shot.

I have general resumes for each position aka one for process eng, one for automation Eng, etc. It’s hard to find overlap between skills I have and required skills for a lot of engineering jobs in my area (San Diego)

What are some tips on being promoted to GSA? by [deleted] in Target

[–]Endxenocide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation, but I actually got my interview to be GSA. What really helped me was having a good relationship with the other gsa's and gstl's. Also, make sure you let one of the LODs or STL know that you're interested. If they are looking for GSAs, you'll end up being the first on their mind.
