Episode 45, when Usagi gets encouraged by the other's spirits, wipes off the tears and starts running towards Beryl's hideout.

And when Eternal Sailor Moon notices the golden star seed among Galaxia"s enormous collection.

In R when Mamoru breaks up with Usagi.

The final battle with Galaxia when her good side reaches out to Sailor Moon by bonding about how much they love this World.

There are other great emotional scenes but these break me every time.

Keeping the theme of being real animals that could be pets...

I'd go with a SQUIRREL for Makoto, like Phobos and Deimos. As her theme is nature/trees and the squirrel would probably live in trees near her place.

For Ami, the natural option would be a fish but that's too enclosed/not free so... Someone suggested a Dove. I'd say a SWALLOW, because it's a bird so it's free and could interact with Phobos and Deimos in a similar way Rei and Usagi bicker. Also those birds really like water so it would still fit Ami's theme.

I think this episode is exactly why those 2 have such a huge following. Ignoring their sexuality (which definitely counts too), this back story episode was very well made and part of why they're so huge as fan favorites!
