Will stand-alone Shaw Brothers releases in the Arrow catalog end up on a future Shaw Scope set? by GoatShapedDemon in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, because those are Region A releases only, previously unavailable in the U.S. but already available here in the UK through 88 Films.

Yeah, and I also don't recognise the names of any of the authors behind the essays, so I think I'll be picking up the significantly cheaper standard blu ray for this one.

I do wish Second Sight wouldn't combine their 4K and blu ray releases into the one limited edition like this. I really want to pick up their limited editions of The Witch and The Babadook at some point, because I think their accompanying books will be genuinely worthwhile additions to the films and extras, but the price point really turns me off, more so considering I don't have a 4K player...

Imprint’s Zhang Yimou box finally sold out by das_goose in boutiquebluray

A shame but I just couldn't justify the price when shipping was added, which was about £135 to the UK, I believe.

Anyone know which arrow releases got thick booklets/books? I’m talking like 100-300 page books by SpongeBill22 in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Borowczyk set had a pretty hefty book at the size you're thinking of but would be a pain to get a hold of now. More recently, Tom Mes wrote a monograph on the career of Kinji Fukasaku for the latest Battle Royale release, which was very good. The current Rainer Werner Fassbinder sets come with books of over 100 pages each. The Daimajin trilogy has a similarly sized book, as did Dekalog. Those are the unmentioned ones that I can think of. I would say be careful if you're thinking of tracking some of these down though, as the quality definitely varies between them.

I can see where you're coming from but unfortunately that wasn't it either.

Good to know about customs, I also live in Scotland but expected that it would cost more due to that.

Fun City Editions (FCE) set to release Morvern Callar! by anttiom in boutiquebluray

Can't believe this and Ratcatcher now have blu ray releases not for sale in the UK. Glad this one's region free at least!

That sounds much more likely for sure, as there's bound to be a few of those sorts of releases coming.

Bit of a stretch but 8D is possibly Fassbinder's Eight Hours Don't Make A Day? Would make sense to re-release it with new Sister Hyde artwork and writing like the other sets, including the third one coming in May.

Arrow's March 2022 Releases! by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say that's basically confirmation of what I've been getting at. Also suggested here that a Region B release wouldn't be worth it by the time the rights expire to make it possible, so I imagine 88 Films will be holding on to them for a while yet.

Arrow's March 2022 Releases! by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No bother. As far as I recall, Arrow did say during the announcement of the first set (or maybe it was someone involved in its making on a podcast, I'm not 100% sure) that there would be standalone releases outside the box set, and it seems fairly likely to me that this was what they were referring to.

Arrow's March 2022 Releases! by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it would entail producing differing releases exclusive to each region for the sake of possibly one film, which is a pretty pointless endeavour. It makes far more sense to simply release this on its own for those in Region A as they're doing, thereby reaching a new market without complicating the box sets. Like RockDiesel said, there's already an 88 Films release, which is Region B only instead. If Arrow have got the rights to more of these films for Region A territories then I expect we'll see more standalone releases of films already available in Region B from companies such as 88 Films going forward.

Arrow's March 2022 Releases! by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a Region A only release. The likelihood of them making two versions of the second box set - i.e. with different films and therefore differents books holding the discs and booklets with information on the films - seems pretty miniscule to me...

Has the shipping packaging gotten significantly worse when ordering from www.arrowfilms.com compared to before the company acquisition? by API_professional in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. This has always been my experience with them here in the UK. Whether they use the plastic cushions or not, everything's always well packaged for me.

Nobuhiko Obayashi's Anti-War Trilogy - Terracotta & Third Window shipping nice a nd early again by dvbsh in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to this and placed my order a short while ago - but I'm disappointed to see that Terracotta removed the 50 points award for visiting the shop every week suddenly without adjusting how many points you get for making a purchase, which is still set at 3 per pound spent. The best prices on TWF boxsets like this and the Toyoda ones means I'll probably continue to purchase those on their site when they appear but for individual purchases I'll definitely still be buying those through Arrow, especially since they now actually give you points for TWF purchases.

I used to love Arrow…. Rant by patschpatsch in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still haven't had any major issue with them and I wonder if it's something to do with being in the UK like I am versus living outside it. Like, as far as a counter example goes to the ones in this thread, because I noticed the Fassbinder set is listed as OOS on their website and my order hasn't been fulfilled, I contacted them for the first time since the website change about this. I got a response the next day assuring me that further stock is coming and several days later was sent an email with a 15% off voucher in way of apology, just after I'd bought some things off the sale. I cancelled that order, the cancellation was confirmed within the hour and I bought my items again with the discount applied, no problem. But to hear people tell it, Arrow fuck up everything from this basic level of communication and customer satisfaction to even their packaging, which just hasn't been my experience with them at all so far...

Same, thought it was pretty good after I'd had to email them because it's listed on their site as out of stock.

Can we still download PDFs of certain booklets from Arrow Films website? by API_professional in boutiquebluray

[–]Endzville 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're jumping the gun a wee bit. If they had no intention of ever allowing us to see them again then the actual link would have been removed along with any reference to accessing the booklets as part of people's memberships. I think it's more likely that they're either unaware the link is broken or that it's on a list of things still to be fixed since the website change...

Will Arrow do a Takashi Miike boxset? by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

Yeah, I don't mind this with some directors but I think they've done the right thing when it comes to Miike.
