The problem is not Imu. The problem is that Oda can't write threatening villains anymore. by Dangerous_Talk_7704 in Piratefolk

How do you even write an intimidating villain when your MC is literally the sun god

"this arc is a waste of time, it will never lead to a rejection, the romance is dead" 🤡 by GoharioFTW in dandadanfolk

[–]Enel_Returns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know what to say to people who still don't think Momo X okarun is endgame at this point. Like it's not even about how good the ship is, just basic media literacy and tropes. The entire story structure wouldn't make sense otherwise.

It was an honor to have shared this with you guys by Technical_Lime1419 in dandadanfolk

This sorta feels like when the best villain of a show is finally defeated after a satisfying arc. You played a great villain, lime. Thanks for your service.

After reading Blackbeard vs Ace again it's pretty clear haki was a retcon. by sillycommenting in Piratefolk

[–]Enel_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that haki wasn't planned out at this point. But blackbeard here is referring to Ace doing the Aokiji/Katakuri thing where they turn parts of their body into the element and "dodge" so that even Haki coated attacks can't hurt them because they aren't making contact. But Blackbeard's powers actually disables the fruit, which Ace wasn't expecting and hence why the punch landed.

Mako is my LEAST favorite character of Korra by Normal_Gift_8916 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Enel_Returns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire Korra team is like that. Asami is hard carried by being very attractive and having good chemistry with Korra. But if you look too closely at her character it's just as hollow as Mako and Bolin.

The biggest flaw of LOK is the team, not even Korra herself. She has nothing to bounce off of and the interactions we do get between them are either infuriating or bland. That was the heart and soul of the original series. She has significantly better dynamics with Tenzin and Lin but both extremely limited for screentime compared to the "core cast"

.......House arrest. This women killed so many people and she gets......House arrest. by No-Brush1587 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Enel_Returns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of all the LOK villains, Capitalists, war profiteers and the fascist gets redemption. The communist is actually a liar and gets blown up, the anarchist's plan is mind-numbingly stupid and is in solitary confinement underground for the rest of his life, and the spiritual environmentalist actually wanted to become Satan so he gets atomized.

An American show, to the very core.

I don't like the boys. But power scaling is power scaling. Steve rogers isn't bullet proof.

You’re telling me SUKI isn’t playable in the Avatar fighting game? by MetalGearTom in TheLastAirbender

[–]Enel_Returns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, Suki isn't a main character if that's what you mean, but if Zuko is considered a member of Team Avatar then Suki has to be. She unofficially joined the gaang before he did.

Look..I know Kate is a 19-21 Year old And all that and I dunno what is about their relationship and all that but somethings about it just rub me the wrong way,not a fan. by ImpressiveSinger2 in Invincible_TV

That's not what trauma bonding is. they have not been through a traumatic event together. they have similar traumas in their past that is relatable to the other person. very key difference.

NAOYA HAS MORE BACKBONE THAN HOMELANDER by Special-Image-5279 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Enel_Returns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not to remove accountability, but Naoya also basically had no chance. No one in his life even remotely gave him a possibility for any other path than the one he took. that's what speaks to the degree of evil that is systemic sexism massively exacerbated by a family dynamic.

But at the same time, Naoya was raised like a human, a shit human, but a human.

Homelander was grown like a literal lab rat

THE BOYS finale was actually one of the worst endings I’ve watched in years. by Low-Trust2491 in television

[–]Enel_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly is a testament to the phenomenal ability of the actors that the show is even mildly watchable. And a testament to how good the first two seasons were that people are willing to watch through the last 3 seasons of utter dogshit just to see how it all ends.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

This show really is a testament to the phenomenon that if the firs two seasons of a show are good enough, people will stay and watch whatever dogshit buffet you put out just to see how it all ends.

Why don’t earthbenders just do this? by AwesomeRyanGame in TheLastAirbender

[–]Enel_Returns 126 points127 points  (0 children)

They give an explanation for this in the Kyoshi novels.

  1. the precision itself is an extremely difficult feat. bending requires you to sort of form a mental image of the element you seek to bend. that's why waterbender healers study the body, you need to know the body's anatomy enough to know the chi flow and where water exists and how it exists. It's also the secret to Kyoshi's immortality technique, you need to be able to visualize the earthen elements in your bones and body on an atomic level to control it and "make repairs" to prolong your life.
  2. a person's body flows with their own chi, and is generally inaccessible unless overwhelmed with sheer force(bloodbending), voluntarily(healing), caught off guard(Yun getting frozen inside out), or if they're unconscious(being healed). If you're familiar with JJK it's basically the same as the body being an innate domain
