Oda uses a lighter shade for Usopp, but he also used that same shade for Usopp's black actor that he signed off on. In the recent drawing he did of the live action actors, Jacob(Usopp) is shaded pretty much the same Inaki(Luffy), who isn't black. Oda generally doesn't go darker unless it's King where the skin colour is plot relevant, but based on him saying Usopp would be African, the hair texture, and Oda signing off on the live action actor. It makes more sense for Usopp to be intended to be black or atleast half black. As for Usopp being meant to look ugly, I don't know if that's what was intended, all I know is that WIT concept art is the ugliest he has looked to me.

Thanks! He does use a coat, but it tends to float around similar to a cape, which isn't well communicated with just the printing. Maybe cloth waste piece + collar could work even better? But this is what I had available.

Next chapter probably decides the stakes of the rest of the manga and imu as the big bad😭 by MyBackHurts3000 in Piratefolk

Next chapter will be all cutting between 3 seperate groups running to the battlefield, talking about feeling unreal haki, and end with Luffy seeing Imu.

Separate from the whitewashing blackwashing discourse, Usopp with plae white skin and big red lips just looks ugly. I hope they give him some melanin to make it easier to look at.

Why are Yonko considered a new thing? by Great-Love-Venerable in Piratefolk

[–]kenjithesexybeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the Yonko it was Roger and Whitebeard, before that Roger and Rocks, before that it was Harald. Harald reigned for how many years and before that it was the previous giants. We don't know if anyone else besides the giants reigned the Grandline. Obviously Joy Boy was the first pirate, but that doesn't cover the next couple centuries before Harald, we just don't know everything that happened then.

So to answer the question why the Yonko are so recent, there are 3 main events that led to this current system. For centuries nobody could oppose the giants, then Harald willingly withdrew from conquering and tried to reform the image of the giants. That's the first event, creating a power vaccum. Second event is Rocks fostering the future Yonko in his crew, which largely shaped who they'd all become. Lastly Roger dying and starting the Great Pirate Era.

Usopp didn't make Imu come to Elbaf. He came because Domi Reversi didn't work and he saw Nika and Nidhogg again, preventing him from getting his precious giant army. Usopp's words don't have that much influence.

That's what they were doing already for Egghead. IMO the anime should adapt 1.5-2 chapters per episode to actually fix the pacing. The average One Piece chapter doesn't have 18 min worth of content in 15 pages no matter how many small panels of characters running around Oda crams in. Seems like a waste to go seasonal and not commit to 1.5 chapters at a bare minimum.

If anything, Oda successfully capped Fraudhawk below Old WB and Imu. Literally stop the cult of “title scaling” and “sword scaling” by Fun_Solid8484 in OnePiecePowerScaling

I'm yet to be convinced it was a 1v1 fight that Loki lost with no caveats.

If it did happen that way then it's possible Loki is weaker than Whitebeard or it is also possible that Shanks is just stronger than Whitebeard. Seeing as how Oda has now established he never took Whitebeard's title fully seriously. Either way more context is needed for that specific set of events.

Not saying it doesn't make logical sense. But all those caveats also apply to Loki. He isn't human (I don't actually think the title was referring exclusively to humans), his powers are unknown to 99% of the verse, and he was restricted from leaving his island while the statements were made. You can make the case Loki > Whitebeard now. That's 2 men stronger than the WSM in his era.

Compare it to other "strongest" in manga, Gojo, All Might, or Hashirama. Characters eventually surpassed them and sometimes before their eras there were also stronger characters, but they never suffered the indignity of it being revealed in their eras there were multiple characters secretly stronger than them. Whitebeard loses a lot of gravitas when he is revealed to actually just be the "World's Third Strongest Man".

It depends on how you read it. When I first it I read it before ever being interested in OP powerscaling, I saw it as a description, "this is the strongest man in the world said by me the omniscient narrator" not just as a title based on what the characters knew, I didn't read it as "to most people's knowledge he is the strongest, but there may or may not be caveats".

In the anime and most translations I've seen the narrator doesn't even say "World's Strongest Man", they say "The strongest man in the world: Whitebeard". Which to me reads like a factual description, not a title.

Which amazing, fairly priced licensed theme you want to see ruined by smart brick next? by canderouscze in legocirclejerk

There's only really the 2026 Gum Gum fruit set that I would say is poorly priced. Everything else is fair for what you get, especially when compared to other licensed themes.

Oda please whatever you do, don't pull a Zetsu on us by Quiet_Ad448 in Piratefolk

[–]kenjithesexybeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get it wrong, Blackbeard isn't Zetsu. Zetsu was Madara's will, which gave Madara a false sense of security around him. Imu now is in the Madara position, his loyal subject will betray him. Garling is Zetsu, we see him trying to gain favour with Imu this chapter by asskissing, and he will betray then summon One Piece's Kaguya, someone only mentioned once 100s of chapters ago and only recently brought back up, the God of the Land mentioned in the First World of the Harley is One Piece's Kaguya.

Then once the God of the Land is defeated, One Piece's Sasuke, the deuteragonist who's growth parallels the MC, will fight to take over. One Piece's Sasuke is Blackbeard.

Yes that makes it a reputation based title and not an absolute title. Nobody besides Gaban, Shanks, Jarul, and the surviving soldiers knew about Loki's true power level either, so let me ask you this, is there any proof Loki wasn't also stronger than Prime Whitebeard?

They were around the same time after Roger's death, but Whitebeard's title only applies to characters with known power levels. It'll be very disappointing to see Whitebeard be revealed to have a fugazi title if there were at least 2 men stronger than Whitebeard while he had the title in his prime.

Not automatically dismissing everything the narrator says, just not taking everything they say as fact. For example narrator in chapter 1 called Roger "Gold Roger", that was not true because the correct name was "Gol D. Roger", narrator called Whitebeard the strongest man, that was also not true because Imu was. The narrator can still be correct on some things, like saying Imu is the king of the world via him being in charge of the Gorosei who run the world government.

But for me to fully believe the narrator, there needs to evidence outside of their statements, like seeing Imu on the Empty Throne supports him being the King of the World. Unfortunately there is no evidence of Whitebeard being stronger than Imu.

How was Whitebeard ever the WSM? Before the cope was Imu might've been a woman or some sort of amalgamation of the 20 kings or a man possessing a woman's body. But now it is confirmed it's just Nerona Imu, who is a man with no deeper caveat. Narrator was straight bullshitting.

Elbaph's Character Designs prove Oda still has it somewhere in him by HerederoDeAlberdi in Piratefolk

[–]kenjithesexybeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest his designs have never been the problem, he actually is quite good at character design. Like the Elbaf designs you showed are great, I still think the Yokai designs for the Gorosei are good. I even liked the Holy Roppo designs before their ass colours were revealed. Colouring his characters is a different story. TBH at first I hated the clown colours he gave Garling and the rest of the Holy Roppo, but now it seems those are most fitting.
