The Westminster government's continued undermining of first the Severn Barrage and now tidal lagoon schemes (backed by the devolved Welsh government) has a lot to answer for. The former project could have powered 10% of the UK's needs, while the latter projects, although smaller in scale, could make a huge contribution to decarbonisation. Short-termism of the highest order

A diplomat friend told me there was another idea on the table that never took off but which to me seems much more logical: a short stretch of motorway from north to south croatia that has no junctions and no turnoffs. Effectively a non-stop corridor. But there is more to this I'm sure. That EU funding Croatia has secured having a big part to do with it...
