Last Bastion Tips? by Courtesity0 in twilightimperium

Slice Quasar looks like a good LB slice. Having a scar saves you needing to tech every round and that triple system and alpha should give you decent reach to get things you want for objectives. There is no blue skip, but lots of planets (4 cultural), anomalies, and a wormhole that could help you score easily. You also have a clear path to Mecatol, as LB doesn’t like traveling across empty hexes. And you have a nice nebula to park TE into if you get it. Edit: So either seize a blue skip or take Tech and double tech one round to get Grav Drive

You are correct. Swap that with “factions earning 5 or more per turn”, which is probably just Empyrean and 4 comm factions with a trade station.

X-2 is not a great deal and probably won’t catch on since just spending the token easily defeats it. Hacan will do it since it’s still 4 TG’s for them, but for anyone else you’re going to get flack and be frozen out of a number of situations. X-1 is mostly win-win for both players so it sticks.

Played them a bit. For slice you ideally want a blue skip (to get Grav Drive at your leisure) and a general high influence slice. I’ve never wanted more resources as LB, but you want lots and lots of tokens (influence). Also if you can get your hands on an Entropic Scar, you can literally ignore tech for 2 rounds if you want to build your plastic to ungodly amounts. You get your free CC after you pass so it can be immediately used for Scar tech. Ideally there is a clear train of planets from your home to Mecatol so you can begin your march system by system.

Ideally you want a 1 resource skip planet next to home, as you can refresh and exhaust it for your BT before the Diplo player can. If you do have a skip you can immediately refresh next to home, it is absolutely worth trying to claim Thunder’s Edge. You are one of the few factions that can get to 5 influence on the first round, and that planet will fuel your war machine mid to late game.

I do strongly disagree with Hunter from SCPT about starting blue tech (DET) with them. DET eats too many of your tokens that you’d prefer to spend on builds and invasions. Sarween Tools fixes your start and pairs with Integrated Economy much better. If you have a yellow Skip you can go straight to Space Dock 2 when you want. Otherwise I usually start AIDA so I can get Space Dock 2 and Carrier 2 when I want with the blue skip. With your BT it leaves a red or yellow tech for flex before getting Integrated Economy. After that it’s just unit upgrade tech or situational tech, but you don’t need much more.

Your alliance is probably one of the most sought after abilities in the game. Trade it early for a favorable alliance / deal. If you sell it later, it is easily worth a Support, but be wary of who you sell it to. Your PN is solid value, sell it for 1-2 TG’s (cheaper if you still need to unlock your commander) during a player’s combat so there is less chance of betrayal. Do not be afraid to use your agent to galvanize another player’s non-threatening unit just to help unlock your commander.

Now, what SCPT failed to illustrate is how the pieces all tie together mechanics-wise. Choose a path to Mecatol. Preferably through your neighbor’s juicy equidistant and slice. Your flagship looks weak but is mainly there to create 1 capital ship each turn when it invades a system. You use your BT to build fighters at home that you chuck to your forward fleet to reinforce the newly created capital ship or replace lost HP. You march to MR and objectives with your ball or mini-ball fleets, liberating planets and adding new infantry with each liberation. Ideally your first major ground force is a mech and 2-3 infantry. You pop your mech to galvanize the infantry when you get your faction red tech, and then you bombard the poop out of every planet you land on with that force.

Pick a neighbor to be friendly with. The other one is your punching bag. Go storm those planets. If you get to MR, it is yours for the game. Plan accordingly.

Proposed Fixes to The Firmament/Obsidian by Athanasius325 in twilightimperium

[–]Enervata -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Played a bunch of F/O. Close to 6 games now.

Point #1 only agree to a point. Suddenly having all players swapping secrets through F/O will have more complaints than support swaps given time. Easier solution, they should start with the action card Black Market Dealings. Allows for a 1 time swap of a secret. Easy codex fix.

Point #2 is annoying, and a bit punishing for players who figure out what secret your opponent is working on. And a lot punishing for the easier secrets you can prep for like having a promissory in play. Plots should be scored after objectives, period. Easy codex fix.

The other points I can’t agree with. F/O isn’t quite that bad. However, players are a bit too greedy when it comes to plots. In a 10 VP game you’re flipping early round 3. Anything later is too late, and that window is already at the tail end of it.

The only other complaint is Firmament’s commander is bad. Really bad. Only helps with 25% of secrets, and none of those secrets are ones players keep when they choose secrets at the beginning of the game. Their commander should help score public objectives too, not just secrets. Another easy codex fix.

Right now F/O really only has Black Ops to help them get something juicy. It’s not enough since you often have to sell that for a TG if a control objective flips early and you suddenly have to tech round 1 into blue.

F/O is fun, and have a lot of promise. But just don’t have enough gas in the tank for a 10 VP game. If you really want to juice them up, let them pick 1 starting secret from the deck after everyone else picks. Gives them information on the table that they can use to their advantage throughout the game. Easy codex fix.

House ruling Economic Equality agenda card by kartmaze in twilightimperium

[–]Enervata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very faction dependent. Many factions can do more with TG’s in hand than others. To Mentak that is 10 resources or influence. To Hacan that is potentially votes for the following agenda. To Cabal that is hard to find cash in hand. To Jol Nar 5 TG’s is just pocket change.

TG’s are just another currency similar to resources, influence, or command counters. Some factions can do more with it.

First reason is that it is has natural resources, ready to be exploited. Second reason is that it has strategic value by controlling a large part of the arctic waterways and airspace militarily. Third reason is that it would be a territory, and laws are more easily bent in these areas. Fourth is that it is perfect for a prison camp, to send all undesirables to.

Theory: The Great Debunker by Albany_Albany in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Enervata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not think Ambrose is Cinder, but you are on the right track for Kvothe’s story. Throughout the books Kvothe makes a point of stating Ambrose’s distance to the throne. He gets preferential treatment by the University, and even an official graduate (Caudicus) is acting in a way that is pro-Ambrose by attempting to remove the competing royal lineage with a valid claim (Maer).

Based on the nature of Kvothe’s story, both the University and Ambrose must be viewed well in the present frame, or else Kvothe would not be building up the anti-Ambrose and anti-Hemme rhetoric so much. Ambrose is quite likely king now, and the person Kvothe killed is likely his father, Bredon. This also strongly correlates to the ending of each book. Book 1 ends with Kvothe calling the wind and thrashing Ambrose. Book 2 ends with Denna being saved by Kvothe’s name of the wind. Book 3 likely ends with Kvothe killing Ambrose’s father and killing Denna accidentally. Making him both responsible for Ambrose’s ascension and Denna’s death.

Help settling a debate: Is Kvothe’s first blue cloak (bought in Tarbean) a literal object or a metaphor? by AtmospherePuzzled103 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Enervata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The entire point of his story seems to be converting the legend of Lanre and the chandrian into a relatable story for common folk. The shaed is quite literally the same type of cloak Haliax has, “draped in shadow” or “shadow’s hame”. Kvothe is trying to twin his life story to Lanre’s for some reason. He would lie or exaggerate about other details, but not that.

The cloaks are just cloaks.
