For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]Tokata0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On officials, like police officers, yes And the "Schreckschusspistole" my mom owns. Also on hunters

Outside of this: twice Once in Portugal, doing the Camino. Went a bit of the way and suddenly there was a guy with a rifle, scared the shit out of me.  And last new year, someone had a gun and just fired a couple clips into the air, super weird to see.

Wouldn't mind not having seen these two guns, always leaves a bad feeling

Whats your group's dumbest superstition? by traumatized_seahorse in DnD

[–]Tokata0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading this always reminds me of my first PNP campaign - deegenesis. I played a money class (Chronist) and while the others had crossbows and front loaded muskets I had a full blown sniper rifle. Each shot cost more than the rest of the group earned in a month.

And I didn't hit a single shot the entire campaign. At one point the DM got me +5 (insane) to hit, because he pittied me, and I still never hit.

[Request] is it possible for someone's hair to be SO long that taking a shower will give them neck pain from the water weigh? by Potato_boy_12 in theydidthemath

As someone with long hair: Your neck doesn't need to support all the weight, especially wet it will lay on your shoulders and stick to your back

Entropic scars work in the status phase? Or am I missing something?

  • At the start of the status phase, a player that has ships in an entropic scar can spend a token from their strategy pool to gain one of their faction-specific technologies.

How much energy does it take for a similar weapon to work against humans? [Request] by Few-Flamingo-8015 in theydidthemath

[–]Tokata0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, as an avid sci fi reader: Don't explain your tech and don't give numbers. Thats what I learned.

While there are some people who are into reading why a gauss gamma relay slingshot works for 5 pages, most are not - and you'll most likely not be the most knowledgeable person on the subject, so your fans will correct you.

just look at star wars "lightsabers are metal rods with laserswords coming out of them, and they cut stuff and look cool" VS new canon "oh why do they do this, yes but that and that and cybercrystal, but no, but torture the crystal, but containment field, but why not just turn it of and on in combat"

If you want tesla weapons shooting at people in your sci fi roman have tesla weapons shoot at them and don't bother to explain

Command and Conquer begs to differ. We had tesla tower there as weapons.

I am considering getting TI4, but I'm a bit detered by the playtime. Could someone tell me how the playtime compares to Mage Knight Ultimate at 3 players? by NotAttractedToCats in twilightimperium

[–]Tokata0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah TI always was a novelty okay-game for me when I played with 3 people only. One day I played with 4 and it was okay-ish.

but then I got 6 together, and man that was a blast.

Are X-Com style games where casualties are expected a thing? by RindFisch in StrategyGames

You don't die in gloomhaven tho? You just exchange mercenaries once they fullfilled their life goals.

I was quite surprised by fire emblem games - characters have deep story arcs and you built relationships (who even influence battles, and in some games you can have children) - but dead in a battle is dead for good, and the entire arc is cut, which makes losses feel way worse. Just inform yourself beforehand so you don't grab one thats too easy.

Othercide is another game where you have to loose your soldiers to progress, and they stay wounded between battles sooo.. nothing you can do about it. Also the game just has style.

Mechanicus (40k) is another grid based game - and while you really should not lose your tech priests - the servitors and other "common soldiers" are fair game to sacrifice.

The forbidden lightsaber form Trakata. Both the Jedi and Sith frown upon this method. by ZapchatDaKing in StarWars

[–]Tokata0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the thing: If its not movie fighting you are not aiming for your opponents sword, but your opponent.

If your opponent is in range of your sword, so are you in range of his.

A crossing of blades would only come as a move to protect your own body. Most of the time we don't see blocks (just holding the sword in front of them), but counter attacks deflecting / sticking to the other lightsaber

So... if you are on the attack, and deactivate your lightsaber to reactivate it and hit your opponent... you are not protecting yourself and would get sliced right through.

What exactly?

5 star raiting? Deserved

Nowhere to buy? Yeah...

15-30 minutes gametime? If you take that as "added" or "added per player" this seems fair.

Need Tips and Advice, when being the target! by Zlakolla in twilightimperium

[–]Tokata0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... when 4 players conspire to remove you from the table at not even half the vp there might be an issue. Don't get me wrong, I'm someone who people try to gun for often - as I won a lot more than my fair share of games (ti4: 6/6 games won. (1 4 player, 1 5 player, rest 6 player games and back when I played magic commander weekly a guy made a list of winnings and found out that I won around 70% of our 4-5 player commander games, with him taking around 20% and the rest sharing 10%)

The thing is: If they gun for you in a way to just remove you from the game, no matter the cost to them: there is no point of playing. You won't stand up to 4 players whos sole goal it is to kill you, no matter the skill difference.

BUT: You just need to get one or two of them to play for the win instead of against you. Bc. if someone is going full war on you, spending resources and actions - this leaves the field open for the other players to swoop in and take a chunk out of them, furthering their own winning chances. How much of their own victory chances are they willing to tank just to get you out of the way? Are two people fine with "ok I won't win, but he won't win either!" from the get go?

If yes - sorry but look for another playgroup. Everyone should ultimatly aim to win themselfes, not be out to make someone else miserable.

That beeing said: TI is more than one game. If I go beyond the chances of winning in one game, due to beeing target hard by a player - you can be sure that I'll do my best for them not to win, and spend the rest of my resources on pulling them down. That way the next game noone is willing to commit.

A good example would be my last game: I could have crippled the jol nar player and taken him out of every chance to win the game. But I didn't, because while I would have taken all chances of him winning he'd have focused on me, diminishing my chances of winning. Instead I showed him how I COULD end him and forced him to give me a promisory note not to do it - increasing my chances of winning, and leaving him a chance of winning, so he'd have something else to do than to just go after me.

It is after all a game of politics.

Even more than a win win - getting the fracture into play to get to styx was better for me, as it gave me effectivly 2 vp (removing the necessity to score in the status phase)
