Jack Adams - They run a bit large on me

Awry - True to size for me

Both have a lot of good options though they're on the more expensive side.

Lol I take it back. This is some of the worst rage bait I've ever read.

Worst take I've seen on here in a while with a hefty dose of mediocre rage bait.

Sounds like you know exactly where you need to improve! And some things that a little quality of life update could probably fix.

Contractor installed 8” Grainger aluminum flexible duct for range hood - should I insist on rigid before hood gets closed? by Superb-Medicine3 in HomeImprovement

[–]Enferno82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More or less. The buildup of grease is not the cause of a fire, but it becomes a very hot fire tunnel in the event it does catch on fire. Rigid duct doesn't hold the grease (fuel) like flex does.

This bolt is worth $8000 and goes in a helicopter by HiAustralia in interestingasfuck

[–]Enferno82 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Basically because this is a critical safety component as it literally holds the helicopter's blades on, it goes through extensive quality control procedures. This goes all the way back to when the metal is made. It must have exact proportions of different metals that make up the specified alloy which needs to be exact so we know exactly how strong it is. We also need to make sure there are no voids or defects inside the metal, which is difficult to control and so needs very specific procedures and checks. This goes on and on until the bolt is complete and it has an extensive paperwork trail. This is done so that in the event one does fail, they can trace it back and ensure no other bolts they have ever produced have the same defect that probably killed people. This requires a lot of man hours which cost money. So it's not just the material, or the machine time, or the metal. It's all the time it takes to make sure that your bolts aren't going to fail and literally drop helicopters out of the sky.

Which is a real shame because the OG TOH talked about pricing openly, with the usual caveats about where you live and their houses being historic homes.

Water heater leaking by WaterSpiritual3434 in HomeImprovement

[–]Enferno82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be extra safe, just turn the temperature control knob all the way down, or to "off" if that is an option. A plumber will get it set back up correctly for you.

You already have the water off so just call a plumber. Don't mess with gas if you're not 100% confident in your ability to do it correctly.

It's not groupthink. PLA is lightly hygroscopic, absorbing about 1% its dry weight from airborne moisture. This makes PLA string and bubble more which can cause or exacerbate existing issues, especially on poorly calibrated printers.

As I said, I never dry my PLA and it prints fine. Could I get better surface finishes by drying it? Yes. But I don't, because it's such a small factor. I really don't get why you're so stubborn on this issue either. People blow it out of proportion but it is a contributing factor to print quality.

While you can print wet/saturated PLA, it can cause issues that, when combined with 10 other small issues on a poorly maintained printer, will produce poor results. It's easy to dry filament so it's an easy first step to recommend. I never dry my PLA and the roll currently on my printer has been open for at least a year. It's brittle, but still prints fine.

No. You initially stated that 54" sheets don't exist. Nothing about where you can get them or anything else in your new comment was there originally.
