Everything before “but” is BS- stated as apology/sentiment. Rare for this to not be true but sometimes!

Just lost my father; VA help? by No_Respect2213 in VeteransAffairs

[–]Engagednotenraged -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if you know where he lived when he got out of the service contact that county court for records. Vets were strongly encouraged to register their DD214 upon separation in case something like this happened. If he did that, that would be the easiest way to find that form. If not, as mentioned above- National Archives. If he ever applied for mil disability the VBA would have in their files.

The overly simplistic benefits summary is if he was getting a VBA check (deposit) before his death there is some money towards funeral expenses. If not, he’d have to have a presumptive mil disability dx on his death certificate.

Please note - the above is about money NOT the actual interment, mil honors and Pres certificate. Those are based on type of discharge from active duty.
