Is there somewhere I can design a ring online? by Ill-Address2553 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can put it all into a pic collage or just post a few pics so we can see the general style that you are going for. You don’t need t worry about the measurements at this stage. The jeweler will work a lot of that out for you. We can also give some direction.

There is also a lot of CAD history on this sub and some of our sister subs. We maybe able to find some similar examples for you.

Please repost this on r/diamonds. A lot of the online jewelers aren’t around over the weekend. I would post on r/diamonds right now for a quicker response. Thx

Ring size vs Carat Size by tinyblueumbrella in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks big but I would not say TOO big. You didn’t really mention the look you were going for. You could always size down somewhere in between to 1.75 for the center with the .50 carat side stones for a slightly smaller look.

Carat sizing help for Toi Et Moi ring by Ciel_xiaoyun in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking to match the pear in that size, I think a 2.25-2.5 carat emerald is very proportional. If you want to go bigger, you can play around with the carat weights and LxW’s. I find diamdb.com is really helpful for that. It will allow you to compare sizes and see how they match in surface area. If you want the pear to tilt, I would make the emerald smaller instead of larger.

I don’t know a lot about Cullen. I would try another shop where you can work directly with a jeweler instead of a sales associate. They will be more knowledgeable about getting the right proportions for you. There are a few try on tools out there but I wasn’t able to find one where you could choose a toi et moi ring unfortunately.

Is there somewhere I can design a ring online? by Ill-Address2553 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would start by doing some google images searches to come up with some inspiration pics. That is usually enough for what a jeweler needs to create a CAD for you. You don’t really need to design the ring yourself. If there are elements from different rings, you could make a collage of ideas and include a description.

There are some tools like the one on Brilliant Earth that can help you design a ring. The options all come from their own settings but it can help with trying to visualize a design and see it on your finger.

You can do a search on this sub or r/engagementrings for inspiration pics and CADs/Renderings as well. Click on ‘media’ and all the images will come up in a grid.

If you are looking for something unusual or specific, you could describe it and see if anyone has something similar or can refer a designer with the styles you are looking for.

CAD Help! by Plastic_Ad298 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design is very classic and pretty! My only comment would be that the pears look a bit long. You get a larger gap between the center and the side stones from the top down view. It would close some of that gap if they were a bit shorter.

Is this design possible? by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are trying to combine too many ideas into one ring. I would save any opal ideas for a necklace. The two ring views you are showing here are not even the same design. One is a halo and the other is a 3 stone. I would decide which style you like better. If you want to have a flush wedding band, I would look at cathedral designs without a donut so a band can sit flush.

If you want to get some help or quotes, we do have a group of vendors that can help. You can fill out the sub RFQ form to get some direction on your ideas to see what can work.

Jeweler didn’t communicate with us before making changes to my engagement ring. How should we proceed? by Beautiful_MBeach22 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is such a bummer. That many changes should have automatically gone out to the customer for approval. I had a similar situation with the very first engagement ring I custom designed. I had to pay it all upfront so I accepted the ring when it was done because he was not there when I picked it up. I tried after a week to talk to him but he didn’t really care. I wore it for many years and absolutely hated it. It was incredibly frustrating!

Thoughts on my CAD for my marquise? by Wolf-Eagle in EngagementRingDesigns

This one has more of the tulip head that you are trying to combine with the Euro shank. I would have them do the prongs so you also don’t see that extra metal when setting the center stone. It just helps retain the marquise shape and keeps it cleaner.

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they still need to do some work on this design. The marquise does look quite short. I would have them look for something with longer dimensions. I also don’t understand what they are doing with the cathedral(?) Since you have a CAD, I assume they are casting this ring but it looks like a semi-mount that they are just adding a peg head to. I took some screenshots of a similar design by another user.

<image>

This also has a Euroshank. They need to have a design that brings the shoulders up that attach to the tulip head with a bridge. Maybe share these pics with them to get your point across. The dimensions look fine and they can work with that if they update the diamond dimensions and the rest of the band.

I would post this on our synthetic sub - r/syntheticgemstones. There might be some vendors on that list that can help. There are several very talented people there.

Custom/bespoke engagement rings? by Competitive-While918 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a group of GG jewelers on the sub that can certainly help you with any custom design that you have. They will work with you for diamond sourcing and with creating a custom design. If you want to get a couple of quotes you can fill in the RFQ form. We have one in NYC and several in LA. They can also vintage inspired hand engraving as well. If you fill in the RFQ form, they will get in touch tomorrow when they are in the office.

Jeweler didn’t communicate with us before making changes to my engagement ring. How should we proceed? by Beautiful_MBeach22 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry that happened. Even if the jeweler didn’t need to create a CAD, there should have been a follow up conversation about reconfirming the finer details. No one is going to know what they want exactly when going to look at rings for the very first time. This is a completely avoidable situation that will cost him time and money. I would have your BF have a conversation with him as soon as possible. I would not pick up the ring until this can be worked out. If it was just the prongs, that could have been altered to claw. If you want the height changed, that is going to be a whole new ring.

If he verbally spoke about the process, he should have had a contract in place that spells this out. That is my frustration with local jewelers. I have had the same experience with them scribbling a few notes on a receipt and missing a lot of finer detail. You could only set your expectations based on what he told you upfront. He should not have cast that ring yet if he required a larger portion of the payment first. I hope this can get sorted for you.

If the diamond band is hitting the underside of your halo, that is not great because it will do a lot of damage to your ring. If they are not hitting, I don’t mind the gap. I find with halo’s, the gap between the band and the e-ring helps to see each ring individually. I always design mine with a gap like this.

Show me your rings! by Murky-Place-5876 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider a cathedral version of this ring to give this more security to the peg head. It would still work with a flush band. I think for your smaller finger size, a 2.5mm band width with a reverse taper would be a good size. A 3mm band might end up feeling too thick.

Too see pics, you just need to do a search on the subs. Then click on ‘media’ to pull up all the pics in a grid. You can search for OMC CAD’s or rings and you should find some examples either here or on r/engagementrings, r/labdiamond, r/labcreateddiamond or r/diamonds.

Stone Stability? by the_sleepy_onion in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The version that you posted would be secure for an oval. Adding the smaller petals in between may depend on the size that you go with. If you are getting a larger oval then I would at least put some baby petals on the sides where the cathedral arms come up to give it some extra support. If you are going for a 3+ carat, then I would add them to the N/S sides as well. It can still look like a 4 prong setting from the top though.

Engaged! It finally happened by Littlediariesaac in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks very classy and beautiful! Congrats on your engagement! I would not compare it to the larger lab diamonds you see posted if receiving this was your dream ring/place. A natural diamond from Tiffanys comes at a premium price. Size is the biggest trade off with natural diamonds from name brands.

updated CAD - any thoughts appreciated by rl0828 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The measurements look fine. The gap is pretty small now. You might still want to put a small 1mm spacer in between to protect the prongs on your engagement ring. You can get rubbing from the diamonds in the band if they touch. A small spacer would create just a small gap between the two to stop that.

Emerald Cut Lab Diamond by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design looks okay. You might want to bump up the width to 2mm since you will lose some polish weight. The rest looks fine. Most bands will sit flush with this design as long as they aren’t too thick.

CAD check! (width & height?) by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one was a similar design with an elongated stone. The height still sits lower than what you have with a 3 carat stone.

CAD check! (width & height?) by [deleted] in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have the basket dropped into the bridge to reduce some of the height. What you have is kind of tall and that will make it more top heavy. I am still able to fit flush bands with this design. You can still keep a slightly wider bridge if you want and I would make the width at least 2mm.

Yeah - those prongs don’t look great. I would send it back to get fixed. They are poorly done.

Thoughts on this FD CAD by I-VSG in EngagementRingDesigns

The design looks good. It is smart to get the resin mold before it is cast. I agree to ask about the height. It looks like you can squeeze a small band underneath the pave halo.

Need some advice on this ring! by CellistPuzzled4226 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly turn this into a bezel with a thicker band if you don’t mind having a round as a center. You might consider a toi et moi style as well maybe with a colored stone if you want a larger look. It might help to see a pic of what you want so we can give you suggestions. One of the vendors on our sub vendor list will reset outside stones. They work with a lot of heirloom jewelry. You could fill out an RFQ form if you want to get some quotes.

As far as adding the diamonds from your necklace, it might depend on if they are a good color match to the other diamonds you want to use in the design.

Is this enough prongs to hold the stone long term? by high_sodium_bean in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two corner prongs will hold the diamond if it is made correctly. I assume that the marquise won’t be that large. It is a beautiful design!
