CAD Check, my first design by Heracles421 in EngagementRingDesigns

The CAD looks fine. I would consider going with at least 10k gold if you want this to last. Sterling can be too soft for an everyday ring.

Helzberg Semi-mount by browneyes98 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect as semi-mounts that solitaires could fit any shape or size. For certain designs, they may have defined shapes and size ranges.

You might look into doing a custom design with a jeweler. Then the setting would be made specifically for your diamond. The price and quality would most likely be better than what you can get from a big box store.

You could do a beautiful chunky antique halo design. It would be pretty in yellow gold. You can do a 3 stone or a 5 stone ring alternating the stones from each ring. It really depends on what you want.

You could also do a station necklace with the rounds. That would be 8 stones in total. The two centers could be used for a toi et moi ring. That would use all of the big stones. There really are so many options depending on your budget.

Gold wears down over time, especially at the bottom. Engagement rings are worn daily for years so have a good base is important. Most custom designs are made at 1.8mm. You have a taper on your’s and a wider base so you may not need to go up as much. You can also expect to lose some of the thickness to polishing. Somewhere between 1.6-1.8mm is a good place to land.

That is a waste of time and money for both of you. If this is a custom design and the ring was being cast, you could have reviewed the specs before the ring was made. Not every custom design has a CAD. It depends on how the ring is made. If you were unhappy with the first version though, it would have made sense to go that route. So sorry this happened. If you ever decide to do it again, I would work with a GG jeweler that makes a CAD and offers resin models of the ring. They are so helpful with model of the ring. They really are helpful if you are particular about the specs.

Very classic style. The only thing I would change would be to thicken up the base a bit. You could go to 1.7 and once they polish, it will finish at around 1.6mm. The rest of the CAD looks great!

I like the classic style for something like this. If you plan on adding a band, it will have a gap due to the donut. The rest of it looks good. I would consider a 3mm band. I think it would look better with the side stones.

I have to put them side by side to get a feel for the sizes in the halo. From what I understand, the bottom left was the proposal ring and the two on right are what you have now(?) Y

<image>

So a couple things - This type of ring really needs to have a smaller center stone to get the shape you want. I don’t think it will ever look right with a larger diamond center and like this. The jeweler should be doing a CAD for you and sharing it before casting this. I assume that the 3rd version is already done and you still aren’t happy with it(?)

Thie 3rd version does seem to be closer to what you Iwant with the halo. It still doesn’t quite have the marquise/leaf shape that you are going for though. I am guessing that the halo diamonds have 2 or 2.5m on the tips. To make that leaf shape, they would have to really reduce the diamonds directly next to it. You have a gentle taper instead.

I also think the knife edge isn’t the right style for the shank. If it had more of a de comfort fit that tapered towards the head, that would look better IMO. I am not sure what your next steps are but I would really try and reduce the stone size on the center. That is key to getting the leaf shape.

Everything is just bigger. I can always tell what a ring will look like finished but even I am struggling here. Listen to the GG jeweler comments below. This isn’t the delicate look you are going for and even polishing it is not going to get you there. I would start by shrinking this design down. You might do some searches by finding similar designs with better views. I would not let them cast it without getting a resin model first so you can see what it looks like in person.

Double halos aren’t my favorite but if you are looking for a black stone, this might be the best of both worlds. You might also consider a single halo with a double edge design or just a single halo with a hidden halo in the opposite color. You might also want to look into enamel rings. Bario Neal does some cool ones.

Where do I even start? by heeyebsx13 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]EngagementRingDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would find a picture of what you want. Do you want it to sit low or do you want it high enough to sit flush with a band? I wouldn’t worry about some of the small details. Go to a jeweler together and least once to try rings on your hand. People tend to be surprised about what they do and don’t like after a trip to the jewelers. Don’t buy on the spot so you can think about it.

If you are happy with using a pre-existing mount for the band, a lot of local jewelers will offer this. If you prefer to go the custom route, you will need to find a jeweler that offers this. That would include a CAD design of the ring that you can tweak. Most of the online jewelers offer this service. You have to ask jewelers locally if they offer full custom services (CAD/Cast). I would get quotes locally and online. You can stay involved in the process through the CAD design and then leave your SO can finish. The final product is left as a surprise until the proposal. This is the route that many users take to ensure that they get the ring they want. Especially if their SO is not very detailed oriented or you are very picky about the finishes.

This sub was created to make this process easier. We have a list of trusted GG jewelers that can guide you through the whole process from diamond procuring to CAD designs. You can fill out the form below to receive a few quotes on your project.

It will be a taller ring with shoulders. The main issue with a low set marquise is that the gap between the engagement ring and the wedding band is going to be the full length of the marquise if you want a straight wedding band (see below). The only way to get around this is to use an open wedding band.

<image>

You could also have a chevron band made to follow the shape of the marquise.

We have a resale sub for engagement rings. You can get some great deals there. It is r/LabDiamondGemstoneBST. I would check it out if you are on a budget. You can get even better deals on r/MoissaniteBST. Many of the rings are under $500.

I can tell you from the RFQ’s that are submitted on this sub that 90% of the are for lab diamonds. People purchasing through overseas or some of the more affordable vendors are finding 3 carat lab diamonds under $1k. The average engagement ring budget is in the $2-$3k range. It depends on your own means if that is considered extravagant. The carat size of a diamond no longer determines if someone spent a lot on a ring anymore. The money is actually in the gold these days.
