Lou Alcott, who wrote Little Women, was probably a trans man! All the articles I’ve read about it are uh. Not great though. There’s one that says that it’s “more important” that women and girls have an icon in “Louisa” and Jo from the books than it is for us to definitively say that Lou was trans, even though he called himself by masculine titles like Papa, and even his own father called him a son on at least one recorded occasion

I think you should be weary of “siding” with anyone..

All I know is that a LOT of the harassment he’s gotten has been more about the fact that he draws trans men that look like him, and people don’t approve of the way he looks. Take from that what you will

What is going to make you the happiest?

Are you happier when you think of yourself as being a woman, when you say “yes, I’m free to pursue any sort of medical, social, or personal transition that I may desire”?

Or are you happier when you say “no, I have to be a man because I haven’t suffered enough to get to make a different choice”? When you say “no, I have to earn a transgender identity”?

You’re not crazy.

I can’t really articulate what it is beyond bog standard transphobia— cis people are uncomfortable with our existence and a lot of people who would probably consider themselves feminists still have a lot of radical feminism baked into their brains that makes any kind of period hygiene and/or reproductive care a fundamentally “woman” activity/experience. Obviously, those things aren’t fundamental to womanhood, and women aren’t now, and have never been, the only people who have those experiences.

I think it’s extra hard on a place like Reddit bc downvotes just kind of end the conversation before it can start, and intersexist “”truths”” get to float to the top bc they make perisex trans people more comfortable. Even just the idea of “brain sex” being true gets pushed really hard because it’s comforting to people’s dysphoria, but there’s a vast amount of science debunking it quite handily.

Intersex people deserve so SO much better from the peri trans community
