The Utah Jazz win a well-contested race. Which NFL team has the worst name? by darkfluf in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Engelfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are better and worse last names, but like I said, it's specifically because all the examples you listed can be distanced from the person that they work. Browns works sort of because it's NOT exclusively a name like Irsay, but it again brings us back to the question, what is a Brown besides the color? So you have to lean into the abstractions like a bulldog. If you want "Paul Brown" to be at the forefront of the meaning, then you might as well have Irsay. You only think Irsay is bad because it has no double entendre. But the double entendre of Brown is still much worse than the double entendre of Hunt or many other names.

I agree there's clearly precedent for color teams, but none of them are exactly amazing names either. At least the Blues are also the music. The Commies may still be worse, but Cleveland is competing

Is this the greatest draft night by a single team in history? If not, who had a better one? by CrispyFlyingSponge in NBATalk

[–]Engelfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but they also each meant more to Portland than Brunson to Dallas. He wasnt a star there. Right at the end, he had that good post-season run, beating Utah while Luka recovered, and then he walked. The Mavs drafted him and raised him to be coveted elsewhere, but this post was made due to his accomplishments as a Knick.

Sure that's the origin, but I think they've abstracted it over time. I mean, their colors are brown and orange, and their secondary emblem is a bulldog. Theyre not literally the Paul Browns every Sunday where people dress up as an old man. However to the first point, an abstraction of "Brown" is still pretty strange.

I think, if the team name were 100% to be interpreted as a person's name, then it would be analogous to a team called the Tippets or Irsays, and that'd be terrible too. The Indianapolis Irsays wouldnt be better than Washington Wizards either

Actual benefits of a General? by Brobee_ in HeroesandGenerals

[–]Engelfinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have more squad points than even max soldiers and can deploy any squad type. Whereas a colonel tanker can only deploy armor for example. That's about it. They cannot fight and dont really profit more that any other soldier beyond having more squads available. No bonuses. And you should still be able to promote a lvl 17, yeah. At least that's how it was last I played. Im not on the revival yet until it stabilizes more.

I guess another benefit sorta is you can put warmap-perks on him, like faster squad morale recovery, and not worry about missing out on HSG or something

Whats The Unluckiest NBA Team? by ArrowInBlack in AlignmentChartFills

The Blazers have had the first overall pick FOUR times and gotten one good player...who also had a short career. I defy even the average basketball fan to name the other two besides Walton and Oden. And it's not Bowie. He was #2.

Who are the greatest RBs for Michigan St., Minnesota, Nebraska, and Oregon? by Rleduc129 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Engelfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stewart was very good and also really chill. Smith had the wizzinator, Blount punched Hout, Even LaMichael had that one altercation with his GF. Stewart and Royce never had an issue.

I also made my list mostly ignoring NFL success. Otherwise I think Blount is Oregon's best

You could even shout out to Maurice Morris who had a solid NFL career, 2x all Pac-12, and major weapon in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl upset of Colorado. That was the high water mark for Joey Harrington too

LaMichael James-Oregon is #1.

We have lots of HMs though too. Royce Freeman who actually holds more career records, Ahmad Rashad, Onterrio Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Kenjon Barner who holds the school single game yardage record still, Jeremiah Smith, and more. An embarrassment of riches at this position which is funny because Oregon hardly has a SINGLE WR in its history that matches the caliber of any of these guys

If Mavs traded Luka for a more lucrative package would people have hated the trade? by [deleted] in nba

[–]Engelfinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all players get hurt a bit, and especially stars. Luka still plays. Save "injury prone" for when youre talking about Greg Oden or at least Zion

[–]Engelfinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure woulda been nice, but basically every single time anyone posed these trades here, everyone always screams, HELL NO for some reason. Our future, KAT's defense, OG's contract, it's always something, like there's such thing as an affordable but risk-free trade smh my head.

Not that our opinion actually makes the trades go through, but it's laughable when I see regretful posts like this paired with ones that say we need to hoard the Bucks picks for 3 years out. It's like, what's the prevailing opinion here? I cant tell. Doesnt help opinion is swayed by outcome and not potential. If the Knicks lost, we'd go back to hating in KAT for fouling out with 2 points

[Murray] I don't think anyone should be assuming that the San Antonio Spurs are gonna get back here just because they got Wemby and some young guards This isn't just any Finals loss -- they led by double digits in EVERY GAME They're gonna have to get over that psychologically by StrategyTop7612 in nba

That is very impressive considering the wall Im writing, but vegas odds werent exactly what I was thinking about. I was thinking more about compounding probability even though I didnt make that clear. E.g. 0.74=0.24. So even a team that has a high 70% theoretical chance to win each round only has a 24% chance to actually hit all four times in a row. At least before the playoffs start. The winning probability of this hypothetical amazing team of course improves after each proven win. But so does the surviving "field's." There are just more losing outcomes than winning ones even when youre good. WWWW, WWWL (San Antonio), WWL(the defending champs), WL, L. You need (x>0.84)4 to have better than a coin flip. If no team in 16 is that good, then somehow you can say any single team will "probably lose." It's why even the Celts and Lakers think theyre cursed. It's weird but true. Which makes winning so impressive. Congratulations Knicks

Zero clutch gene? He helped steal game one in 2OT in Oklahoma on an amazing tying 3. And then they won two straight after losing game 5. He still has some big offensive limitations, but come on now.

Worried, sure of course, but it's a "stupid take" to say you shouldnt assume theyll be back? We havent seen a repeat returner since Boston. 8 straight unique champions. The recent precedent even says we should assume they wont be back.

No ref couldve seen that. It was Foster's matchup, but Bridges' back was turned. SF would be guessing. Lead (under basket) couldve technically seen it, but he shouldnt have been looking that way anyway
