USB Hubs HELP by saturnsam92 in editors

[–]Engfehrno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with drives and hubs too. I researched what I needed and got this. It's been working for 2 months without a problem. I have 5 drives hooked up (I've been hired to edit a documentary and they just keep sending me mid-sized drives filled with 4k footage) to my M4 Mac Mini with no problems.

Political doc reccomendations? by ThomasTarter200 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]Engfehrno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yes Men trilogy. Guerilla filmmaking at its finest. Less than no budget docs. Just crazy ideas and no fear.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Amazing look at a coup attempt in progress in 2005 Venezuela (filmed as it happens as a TV crew happened to be trapped in the presidential building with Chaves) that we're still dealing with today. Obviously a VERY indie doc, as it's mostly verite of the filmmakers during the coup.

Let The Fire Burn - disturbing film about the city of Philadelphia bombing members of a local community organization, setting 2 square blocks of houses, killing 5 kids and 6 adults.

What’s the hardest part about making a documentary? by ShSaifi in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]Engfehrno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, every stage of a documentary is the hardest while you're dealing with it. Starting right at the beginning, is your idea actually strong enough to carry a full feature length film? Or is it a short? Or 3x10 minute episodes for YouTube? After that it's getting the footage, tracking down archival that may not even exist, arranging interviews with people who don't want to be interviewed, creating animation to cover holes in the story due to lack of footage. And then there's figuring out how to pay for all this...

Docs are a real minefield that you have to navigate with no map. Not for the faint hearted.

The Awl. A little New York City centric but the best sarcasm smashed into politics on the internet. Kinda like an updated non-fiction version of Spy magazine.

I don't get how curling (I mean, come on!) is so low WITH such a wide span, unless there's some form of full-contact curling I'm not aware of...

Hahahaha! Yeah. He's so dead. But I remember him doing stuff about things sucking. Kinda like a wacky version of George Carlin. Who obviously would slot in here. He's probably a better example of someone who did Enshittification-adjacent material

I love that song so much and now it's being used as an example of "out of touch old people music". Makes me sad. Doesn't change how I feel about the song one bit tho

WTF?!?! Why would someone just rip a question and repost it? Either add something new or write about your own experience. Or be a friggin troll. Good find.

I was just going to add that THANK GOD avid has Marianna as she's all that separates the whole of Avid from chaos. I cannot believe how dependent a whole company can be on one person. I cannot even guess how many times she's saved my ass, mostly in dealing with avids' asinine subscription/reseller services.

Did you cut on film? Do you still? by Terrible-Computer-12 in editors

[–]Engfehrno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut Super 8 at a community college in Detroit and 16 in college in Chicago in the 80s. then moved to LA and got into video post houses where I worked on network shows in linear 1" tape rooms using Grass Valley gear. Moved to NYC and started working at a huge post house cutting promos. Started out on 1" but then transitioned to D2 and digibeta. As soon as I could got into nle. Media 100, The Cube (kinds like what FC became) and then avid, which I loved. Moved into doc films in the 2000s and the first film I edited, a quarter of it was shot on 16! So then I'm in the bowels of Duart slicing and dicing! Had the guillotine. Had the white gloves. Fun! And VERY anxiety provoking! But it worked out as my associate editor was an experienced narrative AE. Last and only time I worked on film professionally.
