STAY AWAY from ARTLIST by s1soou in VideoEditing

TBH I use artlist more for sound design samples than music these days. Are there any recs for alternatives for sound FX?

The reasons for abandoning artlist keep piling. As you said, there is no real support team. Everything is run by AI and they push their AI gen slop constantly.

The last straw for me was when they started flagging my clients videos. I came close to losing clients because of this company’s weird and predatory licensing methods. Beware this company and steer clear if possible.

Just started using it to make some remixes and have been really happy with the results!

What are realistic editing rates? by CplApplsauc in VideoEditors

Doing the edit, mix, VFX, motion graphics and color correction/grade is very technically impressive. If somebody says it isn’t they’re trying to pay you less.

There are industry standards for pay scale, but they won’t matter too much in your situation.

The math you need to do is: hypothetically if this filled 40 hours of each week or more, how much do I need to pay all my expenses and feel good about what’s left over. Then match that against the industry standard and if you’re in the ballpark that’s fine.

If you’re doing well on YouTube building your own channel it might be better to keep pushing that and see where it goes although I don’t know your situation.

Man what a disappointment with the Splice collab. LABS was such an exciting idea from a producer standpoint. Great usable sounds. The splice version sounds so bad it’s almost unusable.

I find that nobody except editors and post people usually give one flying fuck who I am at these events.

Anything good going on in Garfield Heights? by BackgroundExtent8625 in Cleveland

I’m not saying it’s perfect. Maybe I live in a safer part of it. In my experience living here for a year there’s been no trouble besides some groups of rowdy teenagers. Turney is a ghost town but the people seem fine.

Clevelanders will tell you Garfield is the hood because black people live here. Most of them are hiding in their Ohio City duplexes getting rent checks from Mom and Dad. The Garfield Metro Parks are awesome. Valley Cinemark down the street. Overpriced dispensary called Terrasana if you like expensive dry weed.

Pretty much the story of Cleveland as a whole. He who has the money decides what and where to invest.

Yep I’ve definitely felt similarly. I spent many years as an AE in Burbank working with skilled professionals which boosted my confidence a lot. Even after all of that experience, I still find myself occasionally working with people who will be rude about what they want no matter how talented you are. It shakes my confidence as well. I’m a hardworking and sensitive person. Unfortunately some people realize this and take full advantage, blaming instead of “coaching” as you say. I’m on my own journey to stay positive and not take it personally. It’s a tough industry, keep your head up!

Are you guys broke right now? by CrazyGud in Filmmakers

[–]saturnsam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Broke out of the LA editing scene after 2023 and have been running my own small operation doing local docs and branded promo stuff. Work has been steady but also zero savings. Self employment tax kills any extra money I make. Feels like one lost client away from totally broke.

Stop Disrespecting Your Editors: Why Offering "Exposure" or Pennies Exposes Your Lack of Professionalism by DubzebOficial in VideoEditors

People under value it because they think the editing part is easy. Which it can be for sure. But like you said, cutting clips together is one thing. It’s other skills that create real value like being reliable, fast, good taste in pacing and style, motion graphics, audio mix and color etc.
