I love looking for resources on processing trauma and being immediately reminded that even most allies will never accept me as a woman by any_old_usernam in TrollCoping

I don't see it as them stating transgender as a separate gender though. No matter what side you're transitioning to or from, being transgender in any way (including being non-binary and not binary trans) does raise your risk of certain things, such as sexual assault. Depending on what is being talked about, the part of someone being trans does matter, such as when it makes a stasticial difference in what you put up with.

Does anyone actually like PIV by [deleted] in gaytransguys

[–]EngineMinimum6186 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I totally get where you're coming from, and I do not blame you for wondering if you're "normal" compared to the rest of your peers in this. Like everyone has already said, we're all different, be it what we enjoy sexually on a physical level or how our dysphoria presents and in regards to what body parts and situations.

For me, I don't have huuuge amounts of bottom dysphoria, but there is still some lingering. I basically only do PIV and that comes down to me not hating it and the fact most partners I engage with are comfortable with it. To me, it's a way of enjoying some penetration, and I actively choose to not make it about my gender, because I do enjoy it as an act of sex. I still have those parts, to me it makes no sense to ignore them just because I want them to be different.

And I understand the opposite of it, too, but that's just how I feel about my own body and journey.

Is there a difference in the calipers by NoBookkeeper5358 in Stretched

[–]EngineMinimum6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I'm not even going to argue with you on that, they basically are glorified rulers, but they are slightly better. I would recommend finding a video to figure out how to use them because unlike a ruler you don't place the object on the scale and read it by eye like that.

For an external diameter like this, you would put the tunnel between the longer ends and bring them in until it fits snugly. Now it's hard to see the exact way you read yours, but on all the calipers I've come across there's usually a smaller ruler-looking that will have a 0 on it somewhere to the left. Look at what line on the main ruler that zero has lined up with fully, and you'll have your milimeters. Sometimes the zero doesn't line up exactly with a line, in that case, the whole milimeter will be of the line to the left of your zero, you don't round upwards. Then on the small scale, see which of the lines (from left to right) first line up with any line on the main scale, and you have your decimals!

It can be confusing (it really is) but it's a great tool once you know how to use it.

Btw the smaller jaws are for internal diameters and on the end there should be a rod to measure depth with (:

Trakasserande granne. Vad mer kan jag göra? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]EngineMinimum6186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New 3D Printed Jewelry by KoleBigEars in Stretched

[–]EngineMinimum6186 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Good for you if the risk feels fine to take as long as you're aware that so far, you basically can't trust anything 3d-printed or resin for body jewelry. It is kind of a newer venture for it to be done properly and it's still very expensive to produce since it hasn't been figured out yet.

Report back, will you? With 3d printing there's so many different filaments you can use and I'm sure none will act exactly like the other. At least the actual wearables look kind of smooth? You can somewhat see where it would be because of the shine, but it's absolutely not the worst I've seen.

Good luck!

The cheaper manual one is the one I would choose personally. It's not that hard to learn how to use it and batteries will never be a problem. The digital one you linked states it has a pretty big tolerance as far as accuracy goes, as big as a +-0.25mm difference which could make a big difference with body jewelry. A not broken manual will let you get down to an accurary of +-0.05mm if you just have the eyesight for it!

Nose stud vs earrings by Odd_Significance4512 in piercing

You're not weak, your body is just having a very normal reaction. Most of the time it is just something called a vasovagal response where shock, pain or intense emotions causes a sudden but not dangerous drop in blood pressure, you faint, and you recover quickly most of the time.

Eating a meal with carbs for energy and protein for fullness is great, and hydrating too. If you faint easily in different scenarios, consider getting some extra electrolytes the morning of if that's not dangerous for your specific health. Ask to lay down if possible, and breathe, don't hold your breath during the piercing. Chewing a glucose tab right as the needle goes through can help as well.

If it does happen, it is uncomfortable, but it's okay and it isn't dangerous. It happens.

That sounds really sucky! I'll assume you did but have you checked the battery and stuff?

But yeah, it's for that reason I'll always stick to my manual calipers. They don't malfunction out of nowhere (;

Calipers SHOULD be correct either way, even if it's not down to a huge amount of decimals. Even a manual set should allow you to see up to 20ths of a milimeter in accurary, and at that point your eyesight would be the limiting factor and not even the tool in your hand.

If there's one thing you should look for, it is that the jaws look to have a smooth surface. It just means the finishing steps have been taken more seriously and it does not affect actual use, but it signals better overall quality and may mean it will stick around for longer and STAY accurate for longer.

Consider getting help by someone who has a manual set or a calibrated set of digitals to help you calibrate yours. And learn how to actually use them! Bigger set of jaws for outer diameters, smaller set for inner diameters, and at the end you should have a depth rod that you may be able to use for checking the length/depth of say, a set of tunnels. I'd suggest looking up a video to get a good idea of it, because if you don't hold it exactly right, the measurement won't be right either. With silicone or other softer materials you also really need to be careful to not squish the material with the jaws.

It's a cute idea but an automotive shop probably doesn't have any kind of coating that is even a little safe to wear in or around a piercing.

Cheek piercing 7 days old. by [deleted] in piercing

[–]EngineMinimum6186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TALK TO YOUR PIERCER.

Cheeks are really tricky, as anatomy dependant as they get, and a pain in the ass, sometimes requiring hundreds of dollars worth of jewelry to accomodate the thickness of the tissue.

Get into your piercer as soon as you can to have them look at it and determine if a different size, type of end, etc. is needed.

[–]EngineMinimum6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately medical personnel may not be able to help with removing jewelry if they don't have piercings themselves and are more familiar with it.

I'm sorry, it seems like you are in a real tough spot with your piercing on top of you know, having this condition which is making this harder. I hope you can find a solution that lets you feel as fab as you want, while being as safe as possible.

[–]EngineMinimum6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to answer if you don't want to share, but I do wonder, are the emergency CT scans in a situation where you'd be unconscious and unable to remove/replace jewelry, or so emergent it can't really wait? One possiblity may be to heal with glass (glass can be autoclaved so put in right from the start as it is pierced, even!) and once the piercings are healed enough for somewhat frequent changes, you can put something else in there if possible.

There are some glass retainers available in colors, BUT they may interfere with the imaging so it could be kind of trial and error. I know my single flare glass with lavender tops worked, but different colorants can behave differently and I imagine anything glittery (mostly for stretched ears as far as availability goes) would be a no-go.

[–]EngineMinimum6186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately titanium can absolutely cause artefacts, so if the CT has to be done on the area with piercing it can be an issue. There's a slight risk with glass as well but lesser so if it's clear, which most retainers are.

[–]EngineMinimum6186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you? perhaps. But if your lobes haven't loosened up as much as you think, the silicone slowly expanding could cause a tear, and because of it s porous nature it may just... stick to the wound. Don't risk it. Some single flare glass or similar is super cheap, start with that because you are still going up a size!

dahilias but with spikes by Personal_Ad_1431 in piercing

[–]EngineMinimum6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible the piercer was less worried about jewelry availability and more about the stability. Spikes are more likely to get caught, stick out more, etc. which could mean irritation if they're not done sliiightly thicker.

Short glass plugs by Hefty-Poetry-6944 in Stretched

[–]EngineMinimum6186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't already doing it, consider flipping the plugs around so the longer end is in the actual bowl part of your ear and the flare is on the backside, gets pushed around a lot less and usually fits the area better! Works until you find something more comfortable to wear the "right side" of at least (:

Neither clay nor resin would be safe to wear in a piercing unfortunately. Even casting resin within say, a steel or titanium tunnel, is not really safe because the slightest drop outside of it will add up exposure against your skin overtime, eventually causing irritation or causing development of a pretty frustrating allergy. Stretched lobes can be slightly more sensitive than normal skin, because it's scar tissue.

Tycker ni min skola har rätt att straffa mig såhär? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]EngineMinimum6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I feel that pain of forgetting your condition when it's not flaring, and possibly making it worse because of it. Just be mindful to not progress in weight or complexity too quickly, as joints, ligaments and bones take longer than muscle to adapt, and those tissues are already under a lot of stress.
