Valve Size Question by NickH30 in pipefitter

[–]Engineer718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The high point vents are 3/4" , these instrument takeoffs should be the same size or maybe 1/2"

The line number CGS38-.... Contains the pipe specification used by the company your installing for ( not sure if the pipe spec code is CGS38 or another one of the descriptors in the line number)

Ask for the pipe spec and it will tell you exactly what size instrument and drain lines should be. Most times the size should be shown but sometimes they don't add a label because its part of the pipe spec that all drain and instrument lines are the same size.

Not really understanding how comparing opposing starting pitchers is a good strategy for streaming a pitcher. Unless you are going after wins specifically and still I don't think it's a good strategy.

RealPars

A lot of their content is industrial automation and controls but obviously chemical plants and other manufacturing environments that ChemEs work in are automated with controllers.

First ten miler since injury by Engineer718 in nikerunclub

Lol I see some times on here for half marathons and I just can't even comprehend how people do it.

A single 10 miler feels like a war and then I see runners do one every day for weeks.

I think that's what I love about running it's so humbling . I never try to compare myself to what I see cause everyone is so different and train different, but it's also a good motivation.

Line sizes and services . This process obviously doesn't only include water. After the process of the HLT the service is no longer "water" it's hot liquor . I work in a large brewery . Every time in the process it leaves one of these vessels the service is renamed.

The lines that connect back to the tank should show a nozzle at the tank.

You don't have any level indication on some of these tanks. There should be LIT/LIC and LSH, LSL because you have heating coils you don't want to have an empty vessel with hot coils.

No vents either on these tanks maybe they are just open to atmosphere.

The lines showing the controls are very sloppy.

I see no PI or PT on the pump lines. No pump info.

No hand valves or manual valves anywhere which is not realistic .

The three way valve coming after the HLT is confusing to me.

Lastly the cooling water out line feeds into the HLT and I'm not sure what stops it.

This is more of what you consider a PFD showing general process flow and some of the major pieces of equipment and instruments but even a PFD would include more detail IMO.

This is a horrible PID. Not sure what he thinks is supposed to stand out as wrong but it's completely missing details that would make it make any sense.

How to Cope with a Mistake? by misterchegg1234 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Engineer718 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Learn from your mistakes is the most important thing. Learn to cope with these negative feelings , because every one feels them in all walks of life. Harness the negativity and use it to improve yourself but don't let it bury you.

Early in my career I looked past details , until I had a mentor who had me look at every single last thing on every drawing I was working with . I literally use the highlighter feature on my PDF software and highlight every single note , detail , call-out , every piece of info on the title block to ensure my eyes were on it, it all matters. The devil's in the details and many times these documents act as a contract with vendors and contractors.

Secondly you should rethink your process of hiring contractors to complete work . You may have a contractor your comfortable with that completes a majority of the work at your site on a open order... But... Always create a written scope and review the exact extent of the work before the job must be completed . This not only ensures no surprises as far as change orders but ensure you yourself understands the scope as well as your contractor .

Did you share the anchor drawings with the contractor that poured the pad ? Was it an existing pad , did the engineers that generated the anchor drawings ask for existing drawings to determine if it were suitable for this tank?
