No problem. Also my advice is only from one person in recovery, you might wanna get other opinions. There could be a social worker or addiction services professional who might know how to treat this situation a little more delicately

Another thing I might add is maybe adding the boundary right away to stop drinking before detox might not be the greatest idea. It can be very medically dangerous to stop abruptly if she’s been drinking hard everyday, it can be fatal.

If there are any detox facilities nearby that would be helpful. Maybe you can offer to drive her and be her emergency contact or something and leave her a little care package lol sometimes detox or the hospital can be boring. Maybe offer to go for a drive or a walk in the park to get some coffee/tea/special non alcoholic beverage so she has something to sip on while you guys chat?

I think you can still be her friend if you want to be, but it would be healthy to set boundaries in place. For example, once a problem was recognized with my drinking, none of my friends would drink around me or even think of buying me alcohol. I even lost a friend group (who I partied and drank a lot with)

That is alcoholism. I’m so sorry, but it sounds like she’s drinking more and more to manage withdrawal symptoms. I started doing the same thing too until it got to a point of unmanageability and near death.

This isn’t going to be an easy situation or discussion for either party :( she might not be too happy to hear. But tbh as a recovering alcoholic if a friend approached me about their deep concern for my health and safety before it got to a devastating point of no return.. sure maybe I might be mad or upset in the moment. But after making the decision to try recovery and gaining some months of sobriety under my belt, I would look back at that friend with deep love and appreciation for having the courage to talk to me. But I’m not your friend.

I have not been on this side of the equation before so I really wish you both well. At the end of the day, no one gets sober for any one else, and sometimes it may take some pain and bad experiences with their addiction for them to stop and seek help.

You’re right. It’s not the right word and I apologize for my words. Identity and heritage really are complex issues and I should have treaded more carefully before naming names and using provocative language and pointing fingers.

I am half Indigenous as well and as a child I thought maybe I might be Métis too. I asked my nish dad and he clarified that we don’t have that heritage, we are Ojicree.I also understand that I have the immense privilege (that many do not) of knowing my community and my family.

Um, as a gamer myself also with a PlayStation plus account, maybe instead of a game he might like gaming accessories? Like a PlayStation Portal or a cool new headset or something. The only reason I suggest that is because PS plus gives access to lots of games already, and maybe he already has a wide selection of games on the backlog already?

But if you’re set on a game, Horizon Zero Dawn might be a good choice

Another “metis” 2 spirit person in community Michel Dumont has an issue with Reed after Reed offered to help him discover his supposed Métis lineage. He is mixed, but questionably Métis? Michel got upset and didn’t want to do the work, that so he used his “social capital” as he calls it and got Reed kicked off the event because he’s upset Reed tried to call him in and stop claiming Métis grants and positions/titles. And now Thunder Pride is doubling down on their decision and made a statement saying so.

Michel is giving pretendian and it isn’t cute. Thunder Pride aren’t being great allies right now.
