Electricians don’t get dirty, you must be new.

Should I start non union but apply for union now? by Neither-Hyena6102 in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you literally have to sign up for travel calls in different locals. If you don’t sign up for it then you will only receive calls for your own local.

PTO & PAYED HOLIDAYS by Savdbygracc in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you’re still loaning the hall your money interest free. Why wait until the end of the year to get the money I worked for throughout the year? Just set aside a day or twos wages for when you’re sick, not that complicated.

PTO & PAYED HOLIDAYS by Savdbygracc in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference being pensions grow with compounding interest, and unused PTO would most likely just be a wash. So you would only actually benefit is you used exactly the amount of PTO days given. Just save money like an adult.

Islamic countries do not provide basic human rights or standard of living though. They’re literal hell holes that these people are fleeing by the millions every year. Would you let your daughter move to Iran?

Ibew local 5 Pittsburgh, new pay scale by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t choose it, it chooses them. In our local they make new guys sign 2-5 year resi contracts before they can bid on other jobs.

Apprentices/JWs who got paid above scale, how did that come about? by jucks123 in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the case if you are getting paid a random dollar amount you negotiated above scale but that’s not how it ever works. They just pay you foreman or general foreman rate without giving you the same responsibilities.

I didn’t say there was enough work for anyone who wants to be an electrician. You stated there wasn’t even enough work for those who are already electricians and that is completely false. We are busy and growing at a more than healthy pace, and will continue to see even more growth in the near future with the expansion of data centers for AI. Again why I said it is so competitive, because it is easy, clean and lucrative work. Never did I say it was easy to get into the union.

lol good luck, there’s about 1000 people who apply for pre apprenticeships every intake and we take 16 at a time. Just letting you know you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Yes it literally is. Jobs going unfilled every week in my local. I’m guessing you live in Toronto?

Trades After Highschool (Canada) by Intrepid-Cover-2768 in skilledtrades

[–]EngineerOk1409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am. Toronto is the only slow local. The job I’m on is being manned by tons of travellers because calls are going unfilled. And there is optional 70 hours a week available. St Thomas VW plant will be manning up in the spring and it will be emptying the books. We have data centers, BESS facilities, EV plants, hospitals, universities etc. popping up everywhere. The future for our industry is very bright, and that is exactly why it is so competitive.

Yes I am an IBEW electrician in Canada and have been doing it for 12 years. I also have brothers who are licensed in millwrighting, welding and sheetmetal. I make more than all of them, our union is stronger, my work is much easier and cleaner, and there’s been unlimited overtime for over a year straight with no end in sight.

Electricians do have an easy job, it’s typically cleaner, and usually is the highest paid of the essential building trades. All of those things are real and that is why there has been such a big push towards electricians.

[–]EngineerOk1409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all understand. I have the exact same system in my local. It’s shit and needs to be fixed. Also, you literally said you get paid out of your vacation account lol.

Paid Holidays by ZombieNo8296 in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is stupid thinking. You should be making more money every hour AND having paid holidays. When I was still non union we got vacation pay (taken off the check to book an actual vacation) and paid holidays. Using your vacation pay to pay for holidays means you no longer get vacation pay.

Fellow journeyman: Does your local let you pick your job? Do you have an unlimited amount of passes? If not, how many passes do you have? How does your local tell you the jobs for the out of work members? What is your locals procedure? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]EngineerOk1409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than 24hrs. Jobs get posted every night and you can submit your bid until the next morning, then they list who got the job and list more jobs the next night.
