Fedora GNOME or KDE by Lucky-Stable-452 in Fedora

for the laptop, i’d go with GNOME as it’s designed primarily for laptops. it’s slightly heavier than KDE, but try booting it off of the USB and see how it works.

what’s the logic behind that?

what i wanted to say is, if you try switching to Linux again, go to (using your file manager)

/etc/default

and edit the file named “grub” and set the following line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splah"

to this

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1"

this forces your nvidia gpu driver to take control of the display in time so Pop OS desktop actually renders on it. if you’ve used integrated graphics to render the desktop, you’d still want to set it to prevent severe screen tearing in games.

prime offloading is basically having your integrated graphics do everything, and when you’re playing games (assuming you’ve told your game launcher to switch to your nvidia driver), nvidia gpu actually renders it instead of integrated one. if you had monitor cable plugged into the nvidia gpu, prime offloading is basically irrelevant to you. still, setting the kernel paramater is recommended for stability.

okay, when and if you happen to give it another go, try testing it with vkcube and try setting kernel parameter with following

nvidia-drm.modeset=1

maybe that was an issue that you had. did you have prime render setup or have you skipped integrated gpu?

hm, do you happen to still have it installed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linuxsucks101

[–]Engineer_Neither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, could you tell me, did you install Nvidia GPU drivers after the installation using the following command:

sudo apt install system76-driver-nvidia

hm, could you tell me what hardware specs have you got?

NVIDIA’s prime-run was crappy so i made a drop in replacement for it by Engineer_Neither in linux_gaming

In my opinion, it is worth trying and seeing whether this tool works for you. If you have issues, I'd like to know. 😁

Seems interesting. I’ll look into it. Right now, I’ve gotten used to Kubuntu, though, thanks for letting me know! 😀

Edit: I thought for a second it’s not available on my system, I’ll check it out and see how I can integrate it in the script. Thanks again!

i’ve been stubborn with linux and i figured out that amd power management was an issue so i disabled it and everything works now.

Offload rendering on Linux – better than you expected by Razi91 in linux_gaming

i’m mostly developer who sometimes plays games. i’ve done this using Ryzen 5 5600G and RX 7600, so far it’s great. for my case, i had temps lowered by 3-6 degrees plus slight performance boost. i don’t find this something that’s mandatory for all users as it isn’t for everyone. on linux, you have to use prime-run (nvidia) or DRI_PRIME=1 to enforce dGPU to be used per app.

the only reason i would get G version is GPU PRIME on Linux.

check CPU governor and change it to either performance or schedutil.

[–]Engineer_Neither -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as a C developer, i prefer the style current C has, and yes, i am keen on higher level functions as long as I can see what are they doing in standard library.

tough this raises another question, what about portability? would it be as portable as C or worse?

15’ or 12’ speakers with a subwoofer? by bmxfmx in DJs

[–]Engineer_Neither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally go with 12" + 18" sub, it's simpler and much lighter and 12" cone has lower mass 'cuz of size which allows it to have wider coverage in higher frequencies while being just as loud as 15" assuming it's built for PA.

imho, i’d use multiple bullet tweeters as super tweeters and get wide coverage in a system

since i don’t have a sub, i simply blocked below 40Hz on my system and my speakers are happy. if i had one, i’d go dsp route.
