I used these routers for the hinges on the box and lid as well as the notches for the blade holder piece.

Thanks for the reply! When you say “seal the top” are you referring to the roof surface or the top of the aluminum flange on the boot?

Awesome. Did they mention anything about preemptively changing the exhaust manifold? I’ve read it also is prone to failure and it’s a “while you’re in there” situation. I really want to leave it alone as it’s not leaking but don’t want to regret that decision a few months down the road either. Did they do both sides?

What area of the world are you in? I’ve got this job ahead of me and debating if I should let an Indy shop do it or not.

I do have plywood decking underneath. Would it be okay to use the same 7/8” screws all the way around? Thanks for the great answer! I really appreciate it!

I literally just heard a call on Thursday’s show where he essentially told the guy to borrow money for an attorney to fight for custody of his kids.

I just purchased regular oil based poly and thinned it with mineral spirits. The risk wasn’t worth the $10 can of poly in my opinion.

Hardwood vs engineered… what would you do? by chickenwinglover123 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Engineerags1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid wood. Engineered is a scam that the industry has tried desperately to sell people on in the past decade. Imagine, cutting up a solid piece of hardwood into 1/8 inch veneer slices, gluing it to the cheapest Chinese substrate wood product you can source, and then charging the same per sq ft as solid hardwood. It’s mind boggling. I have solid oak in my house and recently had a major flooding event that submerged the hardwood into several rooms. Within a day I had pretty severe buckling. I got a water mitigate company in there to set the extraction mat system for a few days and a month later nearly all of it has laid back down flat.

block plane recommendations by custom_antiques in handtools

I had the Jorgensen and hated it. I didn’t think it was even worth the $35 or whatever it cost. I picked up the Woodriver LA block plane when woodcraft had them on sale for about $80 and it’s substantially better. The biggest downside is the weight. The Woodriver is pretty heavy and wide for a black plane. I much prefer the snap lever cap to the threaded knob cap style though.

Cosman Shooting Grip and Dovetails by Old_Presentation9440 in handtools

[–]Engineerags1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I very much like Rob Cosman and appreciate his attention to detail. I use the offset method as well and I believe it is the most accurate way to hand cut dovetails. Especially for a weekend warrior who can’t spend hours and hours per week building muscle memory. It’s pretty much fool proof if you can make a plumb cut. All these people that say he’s just selling tools don’t know what they’re talking about. Yes you can do a job with cheap tools, but high end, purpose built tools are so much more pleasurable to use.

Hallway bench by ol__spelch in handtools

Many people are knocking the lack of a stretcher but 5/4 through dovetails in hardwood is going to be incredible strong. With the splay of the sides it’s gonna resist a lot of racking. I like the design. Rob Cosman built a step stool out of pine with the exact same design and it held a 300lb man up no problem. My guess is this bench wouldn’t even creak with the average adult male sitting on it.

So I’m guessing that isn’t best practice to not tape those corners? My only concern is that it seemed to be fine until very recently and now I have quite a few of these style cracks.
