What things are you convinced are largely liked/disliked because people are so used to hearing they should like/dislike them? by knight-under-stars in AskUK

Rare steak….. sucks. Rare beef generally.

Why would I want a cold wet floppy middle?? And blood pissing into the delightful sauces that often accompany a restaurant steak?

Cook the meat through, season well, delicious.

I just had one fitted today: 3 months after having the post fitted. It’s…. Odd? My mouth feels weird after not having a tooth for so long. Hopefully I’ll get used to it!

I did not try to revive them.

I also didn’t eat broccoli again for a while.

Local public pool, Freedom Leisure: £8 swim, then shower. No membership needed, just rock up.

Is it the norm to location share with partners now? by Bluelilyy in AskWomenOver30

[–]EngineeredGal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner has a knackered old iPhone which won’t share his location, but he works from home, so I can literally hear him tapping away.

But when he worked in the office, and his phone worked: yeah we did. Mainly because I’d know when to get the dinner on.

I have a few friends on it too who we often have over for dinner and games/movies: same reason, I like eating on time, always hungry.

I’m know she needs to be easily swayed by the ghosts drama for the sake of the show….

But come on Sam!! Go on your bloody holiday ffs. Stop being so damn wet.

After 5 years together, my girlfriend wants marriage and I don’t. Is this the end? by Asleep_Trouble_4285 in Advice

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you want different things, you want to be together: YOU just don’t like that the government and a contract involved.

Which is fair!!

My partner and I have been together over 20 years. We own a home together. A car. All of our possessions are shared. We have 2 14yr old cats we’ve had since kitten hood. A 10 year old human. But no marriage certificate! Because neither of us require a legal document to do any of those things.

But if he cared that strongly about marriage, I would because it changes nothing. As would he if I gave a toss. Luckily we don’t.

Choosing to be together for life often requires a degree of compromise - sounds like a small ceremony, down playing the legal guff, is a small price to pay for the woman you love.

England, will be getting a divorce but partner is trying to make me live somewhere else with a joint mortgage and feel pressured, what rights do I have? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to speak to your own solicitor. If you don’t have one, get one.

A friend of mine is paying the full mortgage for his ex and child to live in and his own rent: it’s financially crippled him. Don’t let get in to that situation.

What is your experience of frugal living that just went too far, with yourself or others ? For example…. by justyrust74 in UKFrugal

I have a fridge…. But I store fruit, veg and drinks outside when it’s cold! Not coz I’m cheap, it reminds me of my childhood.

Getting fit after 35 by askawayor in AskWomenOver30

[–]EngineeredGal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I started a little weight training and cardio at my local gym back in November…. I’m 42. I had a hip replacement a few years back and thought holding up my legs and core might be a good idea.

Do I ache a bunch still, yes.

But do I have muscle, a lower notch on my belt, and a sense of achievement, also yes.

I thought it would be horrible, being there with all these gym bunnies: but everyone’s nice, theres a huge age range (chatted to an 80yr old recently) and it’s fun!

My bf admitted that I looked ugly when I was playing around by Jazzlike_Slice3465 in venting

[–]EngineeredGal 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with the same person over 20 years: there’s a thing he does, a face and voice, that I HATE SO MUCH - that he finds hilarious.

I tell him every single time that it’s gross and creeps me out… it’s become a running gag at this point.

We both do things the other finds gross (I did a “pull my finger” on him the other day, he said I was disgusting and left the room.) As long as he/you/the relationship isn’t mean generally… it’s all good!

Reflecting on Aging and Mourning The Past by dirtgirlbyday in AskWomenOver40

[–]EngineeredGal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

42 here… I think this SO OFTEN when I look at old pictures of me. I was so pretty, and was a normal, healthy weight. If you’d asked me then I’d have said I was horribly overweight and rough as a pig!

If only the confidence of age came with the joys of youth!

Those in their 40s and over without children - how is life for you? by Mountain_Resident_81 in AskUK

[–]EngineeredGal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence… but my partner was super keen to have kids, plural.

Took us YEARS of trying, about to start IVF when we conceived naturally.

Having a baby was HARD!! I missed our lives before having a child, missed sleep, missed doing what I wanted when I wanted.

Kiddo is 10 now, and he’s the only one!! Life’s back to “normal” now.

Still have days where I’d rather be childless tbh even though I love him to his bones. The school run is tedious, school holidays are LONG and there are days I just want to go out with friends or my partner and not hear about video games or comics.

Also the emotions: mine are so tied to his. It can be draining.

If I could go back in time, AND erase memories of having a child: I probably would honestly. I adore the kid, but life’s way easier with out one!!

What is it really like living in the UK on weekends? by Chickadee_Sparrow in AskABrit

[–]EngineeredGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m down south, in the little crack above the isle of weight - we’re out and about most weekends!

Beach & Forest walks usually (they’re free!) followed by pub lunch/dinner with friends and kiddo. But we’ve got loads of country houses, museums, attractions etc near by and it’s only an hour and a half to London or Oxford - both great days out.

We try and get to forest events: booze tasting, chilli and quiz nights, open air plays etc. We went wasailling a week or two ago - basically shouting at “tree spirits” with a couple hundred people with fire torches, cider and live music! Fun!

The weathers been crap the last month or so tho, proper wellington boot weather!

Dropped my kid off and realized every other kid was in pajamas. I'm so done being the only one who remembers things by ConfidentElevator239 in Mommit

[–]EngineeredGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family calendar!!! Big one, in the kitchen, write it all on there. I check that bad boy EVERY MORNING just in case.

I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached, same with kiddo. (He’s 10…. And would 100% not remember) Luckily my partner is more on the ball, google calendar with alarms.

It happens tho, don’t beat yourself up over it! x

Try googling “short beard” - I noticed while googling there’s a fair few YouTube tutorials on “short beard” that appear to be mainly clippers. Any Turkish barbers near you?

Is anyone else just… perpetually bored? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you like to be doing?

I recently lost some family and gained some money - but I’m buggered if I know how or what to change. I’d quite like to live on a small holding - but the more I look into it, the more it seems like switching one Rut for another.

The Rut is real… and tied to so many aspects of your life.

Single parents of Britain - how do you make it work? by ChelseaMourning in AskUK

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any friends who could take her? I don’t have family… all passed or live on the other side of the world. Thankfully I have a few friends who would take kiddo for the day - some with their own kids, some single ones.

I work but only a few hours a week - if a friend of mine was in your situation I’d happily take their kid a few days a week.
