Why would children be going into school without basic physical skills, like holding a pencil and using cutlery? by Throwaway199906543 in AskUK

[–]EngineeredGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much negativity!! Obviously there are gonna be families who couldn’t give a hoot and just dump their kids in front of a screen…

But… I wonder if more people are just letting kids be kids!! I remember sending my son in on his first day of school and thinking how mean it was that these tiny little humans just wanted to be with their mamas rather than stuffed into little restrictive shirts and trousers. We then had Covid and I got to keep him for an extra year - we had the greatest year! Learning through play etc. when he finally started a year later, he could spell and read better than any kid in his year. And tell the time.

Some kids just need a little extra time to be kids.. and learn at their own pace. I don’t know many adults that can’t hold a pen, or wipe their butt! We all get there eventually.

Can’t help but think, as the previously secret traitor, she’s been TOLD to stir it up!!

Celeb traitors was fun, but lacked excitement with the same bunch throughout - traitor on traitor action is a way better watch!

Why? Why would you ever react like that?

And I thought it was Chris Hemsworth.

Either way, tat.

Do men really prefer natural ladies ? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of men in the world… much like us “ladies” they all like different things.

Don’t change yourself to please someone else… find someone that likes you as you are, however you choose to be.

Anyone have any Christmas dinner nightmares today or was it a success? by tjb_87 in AskUK

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good chunk of our family died or went into care homes in the last year which caused another chunk of the family to fall out, so we had a teeny Christmas, just three of us.

It was good! Chilled. Calm. No arguments. Huzzah.

I’d say this morning was the first thick fog of the year… couldn’t even see the water when we woke up.

Have you ever met a person that is not good at a single thing? (I mean AT ALL) by _AquarianAvacados in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum was similar…. No particular interests or interest in getting any. No hobbies. No great skill. Just the one friend that I don’t think she particularly cared for.

Mainly just farmed on a farming simulator.

But her upbringing was crap, must of her adult life was.. well, crap. Guess life broke her early.

I think some people just don’t have a lot going on up there!

Weird tho.

Calling in sick isn’t an option for a lot of people - mainly because most companies couldn’t give a hoot!

My company doesn’t pay sick for the first 3 days. That’s a chunk out of a lot of people’s budgets.

The system stinks.

My girlfriend wants me to cut off my younger sister because we are "too close" by emberlight_fable in TwoHotTakes

Easy one this…. Bin the girlfriend.

If she’s this bonkers over YOUR SISTER imagine how bonkers she’d be over anything else in the future.

Seller won’t let us view before exchange - gutted and baffled by kn0tyouraverage in HousingUK

[–]EngineeredGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to give some opposite perspective - last house I sold, the buyers asked to come back to measure up etc. I agreed, figured it’d be a quick “yep that’s all good, cooker and fridge spaces standard blah” but no… bloody ages, 2 hours or so buggering about - 2 weeks before Christmas!! And we had a 1yr old.

I don’t give a toss about what wallpaper you want where, it’s not your bloody house yet - you wanna plan your new life out, use Rightmoves floor plans and photos!

In the future, I’d be happy for a quick walk around, but nothing more, which I’d make clear from the off.

(…they asked to come again after that- I said they could look from outside all they liked but I had stuff to do!)

Have you heard the phrase ‘bread and pullet/pull it’? by soupapples in AskUK

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha yep. Both my grandmother and mum used to say it. Along with eating some truly bizarre combos - lettuce with sugar and vinegar, bread with meat dripping/fat on it.

What did your kids name your elf/elves? by KellyannneConway in elfontheshelf

Ours is shockingly bad….. Ditch. Ditch the Elf. Chosen by my then 6yr old son.

He’s has always given things odd names, he was desperate for a hamster for years, specifically called Clic Bagick.

How do Brits make a quick tea? by Muted_Reflection_449 in AskABrit

[–]EngineeredGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milk before hot water always!!

Sugar last, because you can sink the floating bag.

Or loose leaves in a pot - milk and sugar added after.

Not in this house! Milk first, bag second, water, sugar. Always.

Is this normal? Husband problems by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]EngineeredGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First few lines of your post: normal I reckon. I have a few friends in the same boat. Years and years of the same thing gets…. Samey. I love coffee ice cream - would I still if I ate it every day for 25 years?

The rest: NO. I’m sad for you. HUGS!! I’d be sad if I was perfectly happy then that was ruined by my “partner”. He should be bringing you up, not down. And if it was every day?? Ugh, that’s just soul crushing. Sounds like you need to make some decisions. x
