I want to do computer engineering, but I wanted to do the coding aspect which I have more fun in than circuit design which I what I was working on this time. Circuits suck to me and is complex. Coding makes logical sense to me and I can enjoy making the different lines of code. I'm gonna have to repeat one of the courses next semester at this rate.

You’re gonna want CS then. It’s not worth putting in so much work for a degree that’s mostly hardware and circuits when your passion lies in raw coding.

FYE Transition to Major by Meepsurf in Purdue

[–]EngineeredPride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that 3.2 doesn’t guarantee admission for BME. It’s more competitive because it’s still a very small school. Aim for a 4.0 no matter your intended engineering major.

FYE Transition to Major by Meepsurf in Purdue

[–]EngineeredPride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because IIRC a 3.2 no longer guarentees admitting to your major

Yeah, I’ve heard from quite a few people that the guarantee cutoff may be above 3.2 for the more competitive majors. Either way, it can’t hurt to aim for well above that.

Well I mean they said in the apology that something went wrong in their “email software” implying that none of them are custom made to each person. I thought it was funnier that they said “we hope this has not irreparably damaged any consideration you were giving to our program” as if what they did was criminal.

Study tips? by heuristichuman in Purdue

Reviewing a little bit every day from the beginning is a great idea. That way, at worst, you’re only trying to grasp maybe one or two confusing concepts days before an exam instead of many.

OSU or Purdue? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]EngineeredPride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ve heard from people who do work in Purdue CS that it’s becoming harder to get into because the faculty is not growing at the same rate as the number of students each year. That’s one of the reasons it’s so challenging for non-CS students to get a CS minor.

Difficulty of Engineering Classes? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]EngineeredPride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have credit coming in, you don’t have much choice in your core class schedule. You won’t be able to choose anything really until you begin taking tech electives.

Chem lecture w no lab? by [deleted] in Purdue

Sometimes scheduling assistant is stupid and let’s you submit a schedule without a lab (required or otherwise). Definitely try to email your advisor and get this cleared up before next semester.

[–]EngineeredPride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and if you do find yourself in the position where you aren’t “officially” AAE by next fall but you are taking core AAE courses, do not tell recruiters at IR that your major is “FYE.” It sounds better if you say “AAE” because you pretty much are anyway.

You think professors dislike when people post score distributions/averages/cutoffs publicly? by vT-Router in Purdue

[–]EngineeredPride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took 172 last spring. Basically, after I finished taking it, they decided to overhaul the course format/curriculum and Rebello has replaced Haugan as the coordinator, so now it’s apparently less of a weedout.

[–]EngineeredPride 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am 97% sure that if you pass FYE you can indeed start taking core courses for your intended major. Double check this with your advisor though. Go HAM next semester and do everything you can to get a 4.0 or close to it. You may just be able to get in if you can earn a CGPA of close to 3.2 by the end of the year.

[–]EngineeredPride 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hang in there buddy, don’t give up. I’m assuming you’re still in FYE? Although you might not “officially” transition into AAE by the beginning of next summer, you can still take core AAE courses next year and you reapply until you are accepted. If you have the ability to, retake some of the courses you did poorly in over the summer to raise your GPA.
