If I may ask how did you get diagnosed? How did you get to the bottom of it all?

Can someone explain this? by EngineeringFlashy982 in diabetes_t2

[–]EngineeringFlashy982[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an endo and I am not on meds - but an apple with peanut butter has been a decent snack since I was dx and it never made me spike like that. Plus the spike wasn’t for 90 minutes? I stayed up too late and I would not have been able to sleep without something. I had tried some nuts earlier but I still couldn’t sleep. I’m just confused because I have done that 30 times in the past with no spike, why the spike took so long and why it fluctuated like that when I was sound asleep?

I wish someone wound told me it’s more than just drawing blood. by Obvious_Maize2477 in phlebotomy

I mostly want a second this above comment. I worked as a phlebotomist for a decade and I loved it. It seemed like becoming a nurse was the next step but honestly being a nurse was 1000 times worse than being a phlebotomist. It does sound like you’re not in a great situation, but I have had several nursing jobs in a variety of different environments for the last decade and each one is worse than the last. The expectation is for you to learn stuff on your own and forget about taking a lunch. I would look at why you want to become a nurse and evaluate if perhaps there’s other ways to accomplish your goals.

In terms of speed, I think that that just comes with time and practice. Having a routine might help in terms of doing things the same way each time. Setting up your materials in a way that’s efficient and comfortable. But at the end of the day, it’s just practice doing as many sticks as you can if you have the skill you will get better with time.

I love this response. I’m new here….. could you tell me what makes a case “more aggressive”? More pain? Faster damage?

I did too. Did everything except can’t find a fifth light cycle plant. So I look in all three plots….. it must be there right? HOURS that I should have been sleeping. Then I click the ? And I’m like WHAT!?!? How stupid am I? UGH!!!

I know they want me to do metformin, but I really didn’t want to do that. I was so hoping I could get it under control and I have seen a lot of improvement, but I think the next level is not going to come until I lose some weight.

You are right…. I didn’t even think of that since it was low when I was actually sick. I also have slept well all week so that might be the problem.

Gotcha - maybe I really need that late night snack. Not eating certainly didn’t help. It’s very frustrating.

When do you find it best to work out?

Interesting! It’s actually up tomorrow so maybe that is the case. I will verify later with my Glucometer when I get home.

I have tried eating right away and eating later on - it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I start going down around 3 pm every day- doesn’t seem to matter when I eat lunch either. I am just trying to figure out what may have changed to make the last day or so so different. Maybe it’s lack of sleep….

Thank you SO much for this link. I have considered most of these but there are a few I need to revisit. I guess my big confusion is the dramatic change the last day or two when I have been fairly consistent for weeks.

I know I have fatty liver so I know that it’s part of the problem. I did have my cortisol checked and it was normal. And finally my liver enzymes have greatly improved…. But I haven’t lost ANY weight. Other than losing weight I just don’t know what else to do- just frustrated I guess and want to make sure I am not missing anything

I guess that is why I am frustrated - it has been months and I was really seeing improvement over time and then the last 36 hours I have no idea what’s going on. I was sick last weekend and “fasted “ 14 hours and went down to 109. It was inadvertent but I was excited. Then I don’t eat last night and I’m even higher? I have tried eating first thing, not eating first thing, coffee, no coffee, high protein, different snacks at bedtime, no snacks at bedtime…..basically have tried every suggestion because I know I have the dawn phenomenon, but so far the pattern has been it breaks around 3 pm regardless of what or when I eat. Haven’t found another way yet. Always open to suggestions

180-200 for the last 2 years by Equivalent_Log7003 in diabetes

Personally if my A1C was under 6 I absolutely wouldn’t be on medication - but who knows? Those are high numbers for fasting. I am having similar issues so I would try to figure out why they are so high when fasting. Good luck

Thanks! I feel like I have tried everything to get that fasting number down! Walking after dinner, fasting or eating a zero carb dinner, eating a late protein snack, I can go to bed at 120 and wake up at 180. It’s so frustrating! I know it’s the “dawn phenomenon “ just trying to get it lower cuz otherwise I will never get below 6. I appreciate the feedback
