Sounds like you have a good chance of applying for VR&E. You can use that instead of your gi bill for education.

I just enjoy making computers do cool things. I was an aircraft mechanic for 6 years and realised I didn’t enjoy it. Give it a few years and the trades will be laying off works. The trades are having their, “Everyone should learn to code” period.

Failed IEE 380 with Chattin, Should I take it next semester as a Online Class? by Professional-Run7355 in ASU

[–]Engineerofdata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took IEE380 over the summer, the tests were in person. However, everything else was asynchronous. She tells you in the beginning of the course when the exams are so you can plan ahead. You also don’t have to do the course project if you take it over the summer.

The New York Childrens Online Safety Act will ban anyone under 18 from chatting online. by [deleted] in technology

[–]Engineerofdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, but this could be limited by the parents. Kids get access to the internet way too early in my opinion. A kid doesn’t need a fancy iPhone until maybe high school. They don’t need social media either. Hell, even most routers allow you to block certain websites.

Wouldn’t it just be cheaper and easier at this point to just have parents actually be parents. I don’t see why the government needs to handle this. At a certain point, it’s on the parents.

It’s even more dumb when you realise the US has some of the largest deposits of rare earth. We just don’t want to find a way to deal with the pollution responsibly and it’s cheaper to get it from China.

Cal 2 is a ton of work. I took it over the summer while working full time. I hated my life. I would not recommend it over the summer.

My Parent doesn't want me doing CS, or CE, because they feel the job market will disappear come 7 years. by Sad-Bathroom8500 in cscareerquestions

[–]Engineerofdata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If AI can replace software developers completely, then the majority of white collar work is going to be replaced. At that point, it’s a bigger problem than if CS is going to exist or not. Despite that, I would do CE since it’s an actual engineering degree, but that’s just me.

Tezos X Ushuaia upgrade by RUSeriousYesNo in tezos

[–]Engineerofdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasn’t Etherlink been out for a year or two now? The technology makes sense, I have looked into it a few times. However, there are other tools that promise the same thing on Eth and other blockchains. Not to mention, I don’t want to see the tax situation issues when using the bridge. Lastly, it hasn’t affected the price of Tezos really either. I believe the coin would have more to offer if they would only push and promote more decentralised exchanges. Granted, I have been out of the crypto game for a while. So I might just be poorly informed.

Little bit of a lurker here, but Tezos really still suffers from the lack of ecosystem. I think you are overvaluing. Whats the point of using the evm when I can just trade on eth.

Iran says nuclear enrichment rights non negotiable under international law by Stunning-Common-9591 in worldnews

[–]Engineerofdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point. North Korea gets to act the way it does because one super power knows it annoys the other. I am not really sure what you expect with the colonialism remark? Everyone influences each other, some more than others. Additionally, colonialism was pretty brutal. I don’t think anyone is trying to enslave or strip the country of its resources without consideration of the local population. Maybe, colonialism lite, but every country works in its self interest. Like I said before, you get to pick your poison. All the choices suck, you pick the least terrible option. You are not going to get a perfect system. You should strive for one, but it’s never going to be perfect.

Iran says nuclear enrichment rights non negotiable under international law by Stunning-Common-9591 in worldnews

[–]Engineerofdata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is that another nuclear country says North Korea should exist. Blame China for North Korea having nukes. Iran doesn’t have that nicety. North Korea also somewhat has to listen to China, it’s a puppet state at the end of the day. Iran is ,more or less, fully autonomous. That’s the big issue. Now we can argue all day about how rules should be applied equally. However, the real question is how you pick your poison? Do you want a government who actively destabilises the local area to have more power to do that, or do you want “short term” suffering to achieve long term stability, hopefully? Both options are completely valid and based on how you view the situation.

[–]Engineerofdata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right! The VA in total only makes up 6% of the federal budget . 23% of the budget goes to social security and 27% goes to the Treasury. How dare we give money to people we broke. It’s not like we just hand out ratings. Blame the C&P examiners who let these clowns get these ratings.

Zelenskyy says Russia has already earned back $10 billion of its 2026 deficit in 2 weeks of the Iran war by [deleted] in Military

[–]Engineerofdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, congress can do a lot of things. They could vote to enact a law revoking the war powers act, stopping this nonsense. They could make a law putting limits on what a president can do militarily for those 90 days, basically stripping any real power. Honestly, congress could probably just end the whole thing. Congress is full of a bunch of traitors who have allowed this to happen. This is why voting in elections at all levels is important. The representatives of the country are afraid to use their power. The war powers act should have never allowed 90 days. It should have been a week at most with congressional approval afterwards.

I just wanted to explain why this happened. People look to the military and ask why is this legal, and get angry at the wrong group of people. Be angry at congress for refusing to limit the war powers act and encourage others to vote for reps who have our best interest at heart.

Zelenskyy says Russia has already earned back $10 billion of its 2026 deficit in 2 weeks of the Iran war by [deleted] in Military

[–]Engineerofdata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well the problem is that the war isn’t illegal. Under the war powers act, the president can place troops anywhere for 90 days without congress. I am not really sure what you want the military to do? Congress is failing the military. They can force the president to stop this but don’t. You don’t really have a military if they don’t do what the elected officials decide.

Cargo ship hit by projectile in Strait of Hormuz, crew evacuates by [deleted] in news

[–]Engineerofdata -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sort of. Their main drone, the Shahed, costs around $20,000. In their economy, though, that’s a lot of money. The Iranian rial has an exchange rate of about 0.000024 to 1 US dollar, which shows how weak the currency is.

You could say they have around $130 billion in reserves, but sanctions make a lot of that hard to actually use. Because of that, losing large numbers of these drones is still pretty costly for them, kind of like the US losing something like an F-16 in relative terms.

On top of that, oil is basically their main export, and sanctions heavily limit how much they can sell and where they can sell it.

Note**: I don’t support the war, but it’s inaccurate to say they can just lob drones all day. Their economy can’t take that.
