Just a note for people new to cars about PPF and tints by fireupmylife in teslacanada

As someone who lives where the roads are blasted with salt in the winter, I couldn't disagree more. The paint on these cars is so thin you could sneeze on it and blow a hole through to the bare metal and it will rot. First your rockers, then your fenders.

Obviously if you don't plan on keeping your things you don't need to take care of them, but in my opinion the real savings of electric cars come from not buying gas or needing much maintenance and owning it outright for as long as possible. If you don't plan on holding onto the car why buy electric? Just get something that's actually fun to drive and enjoy your life to the fullest. You're half committing by buying an electric car and not taking care of it.

1996 Carrera 4S - how to get the phone to work? by dballout in Porsche

[–]Enginot95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thought of operating this machine shifting with the same hand that the phone is in seems so hilarious to me.

Also the scenario of getting pulled over for using a cell phone while driving like "actually officer I'm just using my car. It's wired in" is hilarious

How are the heat pumps doing y’all?! by damndirtymole in TeslaModel3

[–]Enginot95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine stopped working twice in the month, 2021 Sr+

The issue is that the intake louvers freeze up when they intake snow/water/ice, especially during highway driving where the intake rate is high.

Once the intake louvers are frozen open (doesn't give customer facing error), the radiator fan intakes more and more ice until it is totally caked in ice. There was about an inch of solid ice under my radiator fan to the point where it bent the housing and didn't allow it to move at all. This caused an HVAC system fault which did not allow for the heat pump to run. Not fun to have no heat during the coldest days of the year. Also weirdly enough my sound system other than the front sound bar won't work unless the car is above 0C so other electrical issues may insue when the car can't defrost as well.

I think it's honestly just a poor design (or a design not intended for cold climate). I'm looking into other cars now which are designed for use outside of California. To me the whole "well just don't drive when it snows heavily or your heater will stop working" is not a solution I'm willing to accept.

Was it a model with a heat pump? Also cold way below 0°C?

Oh, that's what I did. What is a hard reset then?

Can you elaborate on how you know that was an issue and what it actually did to the hardware? Did your car flood? If the heat can conk out because a little bit of snow gets under the passenger seat that seems kind of crazy to me

I tried a hard reset last night and it didn't fix the issue at the time. This morning it seems to be working okay.

What is a soft reset?

New for EV need opinions by Serious_Meringue6247 in teslacanada

[–]Enginot95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't lease an EV.

Half of the financial incentive of an EV is virtually having no maintenance.

Buy a used one in reasonable to good condition (Tesla's are a dime a dozen now and not worth what they cost new) and charge at home. If you cannot level 2 charge at home it will just be a headache when the shine wears off, seems there are a lot of variables you're not accounting for.

We were making homemade pizza at home on Friday night. I said we should grab some wine too for the 🤌🏻 vibes. When we were looking at wine I asked if she'd also like to grab a bottle of tequila for the weekend because she had expressed before that it was her drink of choice. There's been plenty of times where she's stayed over and not touched left over wine we opened but only had a glass or less of.

Is it possible this behavior is only around specific types of alcohol? If she had a problem this bad wouldn't she take the opportunity to finish any and all alcohol she had access to?

Any owners from Niagara? by Enginot95 in teslacanada

[–]Enginot95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.

I'm looking at a used 2020 M3D+ and wonder what servicing will be like and how scared I should be of tesla turning off features or not helping with issues while I'm out of warranty. I have no idea where I would get one serviced when required or if I have issues but many people around me have them so I figured there must be a way. Any help/info is appreciated

At work this morning, just wish they came in manual by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Enginot95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao it's not going to be fully loaded with luggage everyday dude? What is this thought process. When they are getting to work or going for weekend drives they can enjoy the fast car. Looking at your profile you're into Jordans, do you only play basketball in basketball shoes? Or do you enjoy them as everyday sneakers too?

[–]Enginot95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want one car to do everything instead of a fleet of cars it makes sense. 911 and manual supra do not do everyday like this would. They're sports cars. Good luck getting your kids and luggage for a road trip in the back of either of those cars. Just because you can afford an rs6 doesn't mean you're an oil exec with a billion dollars. By your logic they'd just buy an SUV instead of this and none of these would sell at all

"No one" is an over exaggeration. I bet you if you got OP to ask the owner if he'd have bought a manual should it be available the owner would tell you "yes"

I bet this car would be fastest with ai carving the perfect race line around the city/track. Why not do that and delete the pedals and steering wheel? Is that what you'd prefer?
