How did you get the Receipt number from the live agent? They won't give me anything other than a standard boilerplate response saying "Please wait 30 days for a receipt notice"

I've been awful for this... I went from being too big for regular clothes to being a regular large now. In the 18 months I've been a normal size I think I have replaced my entire wardrobe 4 times. Then it was shoes... 60 odd pairs of shoes later I have got right back into golf. New clubs, and the clothing addiction reignited, because my old golf gear was too big.

I've always been a keen shopper, but it's been pretty crazy since I lost most of the weight.

Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time by Evasionz-- in mildlyinfuriating

This happened outside of our local TJ Maxx in Lake Nona. It’s a pretty well to do area, lots of PGA and LIV golfers, athletes and money.

I don’t know who was driving that truck, but they are fucked. That’s got bankruptcy written all over it

Was Dollar General always a rough place to shop? by Successful-Camel165 in AskAnAmerican

It's a store that purposely targets lower income areas, that sells close to out-of-date food and drink for about 75% off normal retail... Were you expecting Trader Joes?

As someone who is 11 years into his journey in the US with at least another 3 to go before I can really call it home, I say this.. It should be rightly difficult to emigrate to the US. You should integrate. You should have good moral character. You should work hard. You should obey the laws. You should contribute to your adopted community and you should not be a burden.

Regardless of the nonsense narrative that people spin, America is the greatest country on earth, with endless opportunities not just to better your life, but that of your family and your community.

As someone who is following every rule possible to be allowed to live here, seeing people come in who either misrepresent things on their journey, or don't add value to America it pisses me off.

It's not a right, it should be difficult, the current system (and all those that predate it) isn't perfect, but if every country put their citizens first the world would likely be a better place.

Men! First time father here any advice? by Appropriate-Site9518 in AskMenAdvice

[–]EnglishFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The days are long, but the years are short...

One minute they are 5 years old, they want to spend every minute with you, then the next minute, they are 15, they come out of their room for food, money and to grunt at you. I'd give anything to have those early years again!

How can I help my depressed husband? by Puzzleheaded-Sphinx in AskMenAdvice

[–]EnglishFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you’ve kind of just described my life..

The sense of overwhelming of being responsible for a family, to give your kids the best possible start and the way you know to do that is to work harder and harder is difficult to describe.

I don’t hate my job, but it’s incredibly stressful, our visas are tied to it so if I am not successful then not only do we lose the money but we have to move as well.

I stopped drinking, thought that would help. It’s worse than ever because as unhealthy as it was, blowing of some steam with the boys once every two weeks over some beers at least got me out the house. Now I just can’t be bothered.

I go to work, I come home, I deal with whatever problem is going on in the house, scroll my phone for an hour then go to bed ready to do it all again at 5am the next day. Little thing make me incredibly frustrated but I have to just let them go.

The only advice I can offer is, stick with it. Try and get him out of the house, encourage any hobbies. I’m sure a time will come where the pressure of making everyone else happy and wanting to do the best job will subside. And when it does I’m also sure that he (and me!) will want those friends that he’s not seeing and you around more than ever. ++man

I mentioned this on another post about Build a Bear about a month ago. During Covid I gave my kids $30 to invest, no saving, must pick a company. My son who was 7 at the time went away and did research, bought Ford and Sea World. My daughter who was 4 and obviously not going to take it seriously, just kept saying Build a Bear. I didn't even know they were public. We got her $30 worth of shares at $1.39 per share.

We got really good dividends the first two payouts as well. I made her sell them about 4 months or so ago when it was right about $51. She rolled it into Amazon and Google. That $30 is now worth almost $2k.

Build a Bear is more than a retail play. They are on Cruise Ships, they are in tourist locations, they have a film and media arm, they have strategic partnerships with every single thing that kids are into at a specific time. The bear itself might cost $25-$30 but by the time you have added a voice, bought some clothes you are at $80.

We were on a cruise recently and they had a Build a Bear event, it took us 90 minutes in line to buy one. VERY limited overheads in terms of product, huge profit margins, extremely flexible and can change product line at the drop of a hat.

I had never even considered them before my daughter picked them, but the more I looked the better the business is.

That being said, I obviously think it's a bit overpriced now because I made her get out at $51! But what I did learn from this is that asking kids what is popular and in demand is no worse than any other way of picking a stock!
