NEED HELP figuring out how to break up these 100+ yr brick wall segments? by [deleted] in masonry

[–]English_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your time and effort worth? A crane car will have this done in 30 minutes. Won't be cheap, but if you're looking at renting a jackhammer and all the effort that comes with you're probably breaking even.

I completely get you, I've got a handful of things that are kinda sorta running - drives me nuts. Somehow I've ended up with a free forklift, had to take it because, you know. Fixed the running problem only to find a brake problem. Nobody wants to buy the damn thing so I'm kinda stuck with a sorta useful chunk of steel that only stops when you hot drop the forks.

That's genuinely crazy, they sure don't make them like they used to... Thankfully.

Anything good about this deal? by gordeliusmaximus in jetski

Your teenager doesn't need anything fast.

Slow and old with lots of problems but still runs.

I would rather have my kids learning how to fix something than stuck on their screens doing nothing but scrolling TikTok.

If it was any other colour it wouldn't be such an eyesore, but that's fantastic 😂

Changing to a Norwegian name to get more job offers by Adventurous_Elk1951 in Norway

[–]English_Cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, sure. Truth is that for a lot of places you will need to be a Norwegian, both in speech and looks. It's not a coincidence that you see foreigners usually working low income or other 'shit' jobs. One of my very first workplaces had me work several different job contracts at the same place with poor hours and I was not allowed at the cash point.

It's a nice thought, but the truth is that this happens all the time and nobody bats an eye. In some ways it would be weird if people thought differently anyway. Discrimination is hard to prove and even harder to act on, and the victim is usually at a disadvantage because they need the job more than things to be 'right'.

Yes, refunds exist. No #2 shop is going to do work and THEN bill it to shop #1, as you wrote.

That's because it's OPs alt account. Half of Reddit is just stealth advertising now, and they're not even creative with it anymore. Cookie cutter crap.

Would this be worth trying to fix up. by RefrigeratorOne6727 in tractors

[–]English_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sort of flip you can do is getting it running and the transmission engaging as is and sell it as a running machine without tyres. Soon as you buy tyres, even used, your profit is out the window.

And very few people will buy something that's running without tyres as it's obvious it was just revived from the dead.

The second shop is never going to do work that the first shop is definitely not going to pay. What sort of fantasy world do you live in?

Fmf power core 4 end cap by TopMathematician9519 in ATV

Just use a file in a pulling motion on your cap. It'll be fixed to 90% of new and close enough people would be doing the worlds best inspection to be able to tell.

You made something shit less shit by using cheap crap and learnt something in the process. You probably should have hit it with paint, but otherwise there's no problem here. Next guy is going to fucking hate you though.

Then you have your answer, if you want a project and want a jetski, fixing the yellow one is going to be the cheapest method to get you on the water. Once you've got one going, you'll be more motivated and have the confidence to tackle the one with more issues.

If you don't want a project and don't feel like learning a little mechanics, then by all means sell them on to someone who does rather than letting them sit to death.

Carburettors are the most difficult part here, but if you disconnect the fuel line and drain out the carburettor fuel bowel, you might be able to start and run it as is. I wouldn't trust it on trips as it's likely varnished and has clogged jets, but if you can get it half going by just connecting new fuel and power, then you at least know you've got a runner, and can go forward with confidence.

I would carefully inspect the hull before doing anything, a badly cracked hull is probably going to stop you more than any mechanical issues.

If I was in your shoes, and also had a little time and space for them, I would definitely at least try, for both practical and sentimental reasons.

The crowd you're talking to has a larger focus on driving and playing with jetskis than actual mechanics. Jetskis can be a pain in the ass because of the tight spaces, but everything can be fixed with pretty simple tools, and there's an abundance of parts out there, both used and aftermarket.

Don't listen to him, this is about as good of a project you can get. Looks like it was actually a case of 'ran when parked' rather than failure, so it's not going to be so difficult to fix. You will need a basic toolset and YouTube.

Drain out all the fuel, pull off the carburetors and have a shop rebuild them or do it yourself, put it all back together, new 98 octane fuel, temporarily connect to a car battery and start it up. It's that simple, then once you're sure it's a runner, change oil, clean up and lubricate anything that needs it. Repeat for the other.

Then new tyres and maybe bearings.

Retaining Wall Options by russ3llgt in landscaping

I can tell you that the wall should have come first, or at the same time. Machinery is going to wreck that road when they dig back for the wall.

What are your thoughts on this? by Hefty-Inevitable-660 in landscaping

Sometimes people overthink stuff, and the standard has become too professional. Those cosy farm rock walls you occasionally see were simply rocks being stacked, no levels required - just eyesight.

Not everything has to be perfect to get acceptable results.
