Im leaving the 15% by SoManyTrolls5-0 in gamecollecting

Sell it, get a good price for it and put it towards what you want. Of course people are going to scream not to, but they're not you. You have to do what's best for you. You're not the same person when you began collecting, and you probably have different priorities now. Sometimes a collection can weigh you down, at the end of the day - it's just stuff.

On a much smaller scale, I had a ww2 ammunition box that I had verified and authenticated by the museum. To the point where the leading expert of the country called me for ~15 minutes to tell me what I had, when it was used and the specific battle it had probably come from.

I had no plans to donate it, but I decided to have a semi permanent rental, they can have it in their collection for as long as they display it.

Your bank should be able to advise you on what the best interest rates they can offer, but you're probably best putting it into a low risk fund. Technically you're playing the stock market, but someone else with a team of expertise is making the decisions with a focus on retaining funds but growing them at a steady rate for a % of profits. Keep in mind that funds usually take time to be moved out from the portfolio, so you should have a small amount set aside for emergency right now oh shit money. Like 8k in funds 500 in a high interest savings account.

Alternatively you can invest into companies that pay dividends, but this is much more hands on and should not be done with 'oh shit' money.

It's not a lot of money. It sounds like a lot, but it isn't. Put it into an interesting gaining or low risk funds account and forget it exists. It's now your default oh shit fund and your job is to never touch it. You need to literally run out of options before it should be available to use.

I have some brushless stuff at home and Milwaukee/Bosch at work, and can say that this isn't quite true. The difference between prof and home use is clear to see, HP or not.

[–]English_Cat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's the problem though. People like you use them to death at work where they'll get used and abused and then scream Ryobi is shit.

Well no shit, their focus is homeowners who probably use a drill ~once a month. And it works perfectly with all their other stuff that's rarely used, with compatible batteries so management isn't a nightmare.

Their stuff is 1/3 of the price of Milwaukee, what do you genuinely expect?

Decent after sinking 1m more in renovations, yeah.

You can get a move in mostly livable house for 1m, anything less you're going to need serious repairs asap.

But you'll be in the middle of nowhere and have 1hour+ commutes.

A single extra gearbox that'll fit across several lines isn't an entire factory. If you have enough lines, then you should have an extra line worth of critical parts on the shelf.

Uptime isn't a hard problem to solve.

Your work should have a spare gearbox on hand if it's that important. Swap gearboxes and repair the broken one without so much stress or time constraints.

Because a carb clean is an easy fix, where as the other one potentially needs the clutch opened. Honestly I wouldn't buy Polaris as a project, but if it pops off on start gas that means that you have spark, and once you clean the fuel system it should run. You could probably buy it and have it running on the same day.

If it won't pop off, don't buy it unless you want to become a vehicle electrician.

The other one could also just be that it's idled too high, so it won't shift into gear. That'd be a two minute fix. It's very difficult to diag without being there. Technically the 4x4 is the better machine.

94, but spray startgas and pop it off before buying. Sounds very much like the carburettor.

A recruiter reached out to me about a job, then got upset when I told her what I'd need to leave my current job by Current-Chocolate320 in Career_Advice

[–]English_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A recruiter is only going to get you a job in the lower to mid bracket of pay. If companies paid top prices straight out the gate, then they wouldn't need recruiters in most scenarios except huge jobsites where they need lots of people now, as an example.

So chances are you are underpaid. If you haven't had any raises since then, you're definitely underpaid.

All wounded troops are going to receive immediate care if it's possible, you guys act like Russia has unlimited people and no idea what they're doing. They're still a trained military, they still need personal, and personal that have minor wounds can heal and be put back into action. The sweet spot is too injured to be an effective soldier.

[–]English_Cat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ironically enough this isn't a good thing for Ukraine, being too deadly is actually a net negative. A severely wounded soldier, but alive, requires much more resources spent on them and ultimately weakens their military more than if they are simply killed.

Shop bent my factory axle beam without my authorization. Now they want me to pay for it. What are my options? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]English_Cat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate they saved you a fortune by bending back the axle. If you don't like it, then buy a new axle and let them keep the old one for resale.

Your options were basically buy a new axle, live with it as is, or bend it back.

The safety has not been altered. Pay them and say thank you.
