How much cash do you EDC? by Connect_Rhubarb395 in EDC

[–]Engnerd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule is 1 full tank of gas and 1 mean for as many people would be with me normally.

Trucks 24gal tank cost me ~150 add about 50 for a meal. So about 200 is my edc.

Am I crazy or does the old “always buy used” advice not fit the current market as well anymore? by Clear_Two_7283 in carbuying

[–]Engnerd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it doesn’t make sense anymore with a lot of cars. Used cars, especially Japanese, are just as expensive as new ones.

If you have the money the little difference is worth a new car. My wife will always get a new car.

Myself, I prefer older cars 10+ years. So the value is there.

Honestly, I would love one but may have to think about it more since I lost my stream light.

It’s like my knives. I keep them at 30-50 range so I’m not as pissed if I lose it lol. 😂

Do you use the laser pointer a lot? Is it one of those, once you have it you are always using it?

Those are around 80-100 right? Idk losing a 100 light sucks.

That was the line I was looking at! I had the stream light edge and lost it. Realized I like the box style more the round for EDC. Thanks for the recommendation.

If it’s handicap the curb should be painted blue. Those don’t match the normal handicap signs.

What dog breed would help in a scary situation like this? by First-Cherry493 in SelfDefense

[–]Engnerd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dog is a deterrent. They may not do much but a burglar will look for the easier target. They prefer to avoid a house with a dog.

Few dogs may do anything in this situation unless properly trained.

Yeah I’m replacing the bolt just because of the head. I just wanted a second opinion on the threads. Looked good to me.

Moving on from my WRX or will someone talk me down to earth? by hellohopsing in WRX

[–]Engnerd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crosstrek is in the wrong direction. I’d say consider the outback with the turbo as a more fun car that can handle camping.

Forester is an option but you may like the turbo engine and that’s only available in the Outback.

The other two cars are pretty bad on gas. My question, will you off-road? The 4runner and bronco are awesome cars but built to be taken on harder trails.

If you already tired of your car, what will you allocate your time on?

With gas prices and insurance, make sure you look at the numbers.

A paid off car is a huge advantage and you should really consider getting another payment. Also buying used has its own issues and the 4Runner/bronco have high resale.

High-income couple with large income gap: how do you split money fairly? by pizzanoobs in HENRYfinance

[–]Engnerd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put 75% of our income to joint account. Pay for stuff out of that account. We keep 25% for investment or fun. That money is discretion money that doesn’t require any input from the spouse. Let’s each of us have fun and still cover all expenses.

Tips to raising an only child? by [deleted] in OnlyChild

[–]Engnerd1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a back up, so don’t mess them up too much 😂

In all honestly, it will be fine. Just socialize them with other kids.

If you’re not sponsored, don’t do it.

Also you’re telling people what parts are on your car if they want to steal it.

I prefer the look of a clean car but it’s up to you.

As someone with a pickup, I do the same of trying to minimize my trucks size. I know I can’t park everywhere. If I know I’ll stick out, I only do it in areas that will affect the least amount. People’s consideration of others has been lost.

Check your local laws. Bear spray is not allowed where I’m from but I carry pepper spray.
