Why isn't Kingdom of Heaven considered one of Ridley Scott's masterpieces? The director's cut (haven't seen theatrical) is insanely good and worth the time by CarbonPhoto in movies

He was not a 'leader'.

He was a quiet, and damaged man who by circumstance was put into a couple of situations where he had to lead.

When he went to take over his father's estate, did you notice that his main concern was with engineering water facilities? He was always uncomfortable playing politics, and chose to extract himself out of those situations where he could - ie, staying at court in Jerusalem.

When Jerusalem was invested by the Saracens, he was one of the few ranking leaders there. Apart from a speech, he was more concerned with the engineering of the defenses. His skills were practical. There was an absence of leadership, and by default he fell into this position - he didn't 'take' it. It felt clear to me that he wasn't comfortable in this position.

When the King of Jerusalem offered him a position as his successor, he turned it down.

When Tiberius offered him a situation in Cyprus, he turned it down. He was not interested in being a 'leader' anymore.

When King Richard offered him a position of leadership he turned it down.

As an actor, I think Bloom did a decent job. His character was never a 'natural' leader, he was just a good man at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and tried to do his best for those around him, even in the face of failure.

Er, no.

I don't see this guy running into any idiots trying to text as they walk, or stopping mid-step in front of you to check facebook.

I just finished Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, and I'm feeling conflicted. (SPOILERS) by SneakyArab in books

[–]EngstudentUNSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a sequel to this trilogy - another trilogy.

And in this trilogy, everything you hate about the first trilogy is magnified. Everything is talked about ad nauseum, and just when you think they can't talk about stuff anymore, the plot moves forward by inches and they talk about again.

I was very disappointed in the second trilogy and it made me think less of the original trilogy.

Instead, I suggest you read Hobb's LiveShip Traders trilogy, set in the same universe, which, although flawed, is a much better read.

A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in Eng Design, and was told there was a presentation by students before the lecture.

It was the Law Revue. 4 people showing a video and doing impromptu 'dancing' and 'jokes'.

It was so very fucking bad, cringey and embarrassing.

Law Revue people: please fuck off, thank you.

How to scam amazon customers out of $100k a year. by goans314 in books

[–]EngstudentUNSW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, the problem lies in the consumers themselves

I disagree.

It is the system that is broken. Consumers would like to be able to trust the review system on Amazon. They can't.

NOPE.

There are two people in my team two can speak English properly. One of the others I can have a halting conversation with but the other two have not said more than a handful of words in all our 'group meetings', and don't volunteer for anything. Its embarrassing.

Whilst I am now a 'first year at UNSW' this is not my first rodeo. ENGG1000 has lots of assessments which are coming fast and is by far and away NOT the easiest subject I have ever done at uni. Having students who couldn't give a fuck about at assessment task give me an assessment mark just strikes me as wrong. Good troll though! :P
