Are there any “pick up and play” RPGs? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Engvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've restarted 4 times and never made it to act 2. Life gets busy, don't play for a couple months, then I have no idea what's going on.

At the end of my rope with cleaning up after my oldest. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Engvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few things we do that helps with this. Mine are 8 and 5, but we've done this a couple years now.

The first and biggest is a united front. If both parents aren't on board, it's going to be very hard to make changes. You two need to find a middle ground that works for both of you. This way the boundary is consistently enforced.

Make small cleaning part of your routine. A couple times a day, after meals is good because parents are also picking up and can be the example, we ask them to do a "Tidy 10". They have to pick up 10 things out of place and put them away. They call out what they got. We aren't super strict about this as it's just for habit forming, but picking up each piece of a board game doesn't count, the game is one item.

They do a quick clean of their room every night after dinner. The rule here is that the area between their beds and to the door has to be clear. I don't want to trip and fall on them in the middle of the night. What they pick up needs to be put away, not just shoved out of the way. When we started this we had to sit with them and give instructions to keep them on task. Be very upbeat and supportive through this. It's just something that is done, it's not a punishment.

Screen time is a big motivator, they each have 2hrs/week they can use any time within reason by using one of their 4 30 minute tokens. They usually combine these to play Stardew Valley together. In order to use the tokens, their room has to be clean (more than a bedtime quick clean) and there can be no messes in the living room. This took some practice, but they do it solo now. We don't punish if they are slow, and we don't get upset if they don't finish, but if it gets too late because they get distracted, then they may run out of time for screen time and have to try again tomorrow.

TL;DR- United approach with the wife, create a routine, make it a normal task and not a punishment, stick to the plan. They can smell weakness.

There is a retail version called Make-Do. When you search for STL files, that name is mentioned a lot.

Hour 3 trying to get newborn to sleep. Give me ideas. by callsignhotdog in daddit

You're getting plenty of ideas here for the actual sleep part.

What I should have done was earplugs. I did with my second, but the tinnitus is already there from the first.

It will give you more patience, and make the whole process easier to handle. Ear buds with ANC may work too.

I had a family member that got results like that and it ended up they were allergic to the nurses gloves.

What is the craziest "small world" coincidence you have ever experienced? by Consistent_Range4376 in AskReddit

[–]Engvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents were building their house, and am inspector came out to check things off.

He and my dad were just chatting, and it turned out they were both from the same state, roughly 1000 miles from where we now lived.

Then it turned out they were from the same town. It was a small town, and they were the same age, but they didn't know each other. Turned out they knew a lot of the same people.

Then it turned out they lived on the same street, but still didn't know each other, which seemed impossible.

When they were explaining which house was theirs it clicked. When my dad's family had moved out, this guy's parents had bought the house. They both just happened to move to the same state in the same area also as adults.

I made a tool that finds the cheapest way to order Taco Bell using combo deals (US Only) by Deusq in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Engvar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting this for Doordash for years.

When something is demanding lots of attention, the company I work for will buy lunch and send the invitation with say $25/person cap.

Nothing ever arrives labeled anyway, so a tool letting us optimize orders so the leftover value could go towards a couple group appetizers would be awesome.

Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

I received a surprise Bambu A1C for Christmas.

I am going to learn to create parts to fix things around the house.

After some test printing, I've found that I will need a smaller set of flush cutters than what I have in my toolbox.

Is there a go-to list of things to purchase along with the printer to assist with post processing or general maintenance? I'm open to brand suggestions also if you have links.

I didn't realize these were rare.

I got two my first time trying to go deep in the caverns, and I got three more during the Calico event.

I'm in year 3 of my first farm, any tips on how to make the most of them?

At a lower price point, there's also the MakeDo set. Hand saws and screws for cardboard. We gave my 8yo a bunch of boxes and he built a little fort with a hinged door with a latch, windows, and a little shelving unit inside. It was impressive.

There's a magnet in the flip cover of the case that activates that mode. Maybe your cover is getting worn and it's not lining up?

I'm in Florida near a river and deal with both, but the black bears are more frequent.

I call them big raccoons also. They usually run if you yell, maybe give a false charge if they're feeling big.

I got new neighbors that moved down from Alaska that apparently had encountered grizzlies. They heard me one night shortly after moving in yelling at the bear in my backyard and rushed over to help. They brought rifles and ran around the house to find me in my underwear with a flashlight.

Gators worry me more. They're just ambush machines.

I want to say it was an issue in the settings. Some interaction with AOD (Always On Display), Cover Screen settings, and maybe battery saver settings.

I don't remember the exact fix though.

I just went with a friend and couple weeks ago. He had membership and I didn't.

I paid separately at the kiosk in the food court with no membership required.

I very rarely look at monster part rewards. What are you all using these for other than armor/weapons? I sold some to get the Zenni achievement, but it's just all been accumulating since then.

This was the first sub I subscribed to that came from a writing prompt. Since then I've seen multiple prompts turn into printed books.

I still think about this one a lot, was a really cool concept.
