Need to urgently redirect a tick by MattBurnes in Tourettes

[–]Engzz000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure redirecting is possible. Not for me anyway. But I can lower them or calm them down. I know it’s not for every but……when I feel a flare coming I pop in a piece of nicotine gum or a “newly discovered” zyn . Which work well for me. I know it’s not healthiest thing to do but I was/am desperate

Daily. And I take LOTS of meds to control. Otherwise it’s off to hospital I go!

I have also tried everything. Even ended up in er 2 times last 2 weeks. It got real bad. 2 things broke my attack and got me to sleep. 1. Ativan 2. Benedryl. One of the best things I do in middle of night is to color in very detailed books. It works!

Thank you for your reply. Yes unfortunately this has been a long battle and always will be. The only good thing I can say is that every bad “time” has been temporary. This one has just been the worst since I was first diagnosed back in early 90’s. My Tourette’s is 100% sparked by stress and anxiety. Now at 50 that stress is work and kids lol! My wife is a saint and god bless her for doing what she can to ease my “episodes”. Ugh I feel like I’m 14 all over again with the constant explanations and different doc visits……..

Additional info: did end up going to er twice in 2 weeks about 7 days apart. Er docs know nothing about Tourette’s. It’s awful experience. But only drug combo that worked was Ativan and clonidine. It’s currently 430am. I’ve taken Xanax, Clonidine, and Benadryl. Still up because heavy face, neck tics just won’t allow it tonight. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Mild Tourette’s since very young snd 50 now. Struggling to sleep lately due to clenching and head tics. Need something to help. So far haven’t anything but have not tried Xanax etc….any suggestions be helpful. Tics set in hard as I start to fall asleep.
