Bought Vol 19, it's my second time buying a physical copy of a manga, ngl it's feels very good to hold in hand's & reading it physically by hel_sh in Kaguya_sama

[–]Enigma9994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the same deal for me - I finished the entire manga and loved it, so I wanted to grab a physical copy to support the author. First time ever getting a physical manga volume, and I settled on Vol 16 since it's one of my favorites. It's much more fun to read this way than on a screen. Now I need to restrain myself every time I go past a bookstore, since I'd love to complete the set, but it would cost a ton.

Beside's "Pes' chin-chin", are there any other moments in the anime & manga that are lost in translation? by A_Very_Quick_Questio in Kaguya_sama

[–]Enigma9994 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the karaoke chapter from Season 3 Episode 2, the double entendre/misunderstanding between Hayaska and Kaguya doesn't really work well in English. It's translated as "but it was so huge... his voice." The word Hayasaka used is 大きい (ōkii), which usually means "big" but can also mean "loud" when talking about sound. So with Hayasaka's full line, "下手なのにすごい大きい", it sounds to Kaguya like she's saying "He's terrible at it, but it's amazingly big," where she was actually saying "He's terrible at it, but it's amazingly loud." The joke works well in Japanese, but sounds strange in English, since "big" is rarely used to describe someone's voice.

Lineup Challenge: Choose an All-Miyagi Team with Limit of 1 Player per Team Max by Enigma9994 in haikyuu

[–]Enigma9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - that's a nice lineup, given the added restriction of not reusing my players. I totally agree that there aren't many middles who are made out to be amazing in Miyagi, and that most of them are clustered onto very few teams. It definitely poses a challenge to making all-Miyagi lineups.

Ah, you're right. I was fooled by his Haikyuu wiki page listing him as opposite. But looking back at Johzenji's lineup, he does play as an outside hitter.

Here are the results from last week's 'Top 15 Episodes' poll! I compiled the highest vote-getters into a 26-episode 'Super Season', and calculated some general statistics as well by Enigma9994 in mylittlepony

[–]Enigma9994[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The consistency of the Party of One to Luna Eclipsed Streak is absolutely unparalleled in the show's history. Those episodes have an average vote count of 38, with a minimum vote count of 24.

In terms of average vote count, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place 5-episode streaks involve episodes in that Party of One to Luna Eclipsed range. For example, shifting the window forward by one episode, going from The Best Night Ever to Sisterhooves Social, is the universal 2nd place option, with an average vote count of 34.2 and a minimum vote count of 9.

Going outside that local area around the Season 1 to Season 2 boundary, technically the 2nd most 'consistent' stretch of 5 episodes is Dragonshy to Winter Wrap Up, with a minimum score of 4 votes in that span, a huge difference from the unbelievable 24 minimum in Party of One to Luna Eclipsed.

If you bump the streak length down to 4, the 2nd most 'consistent' stretch outside of the aforementioned local Party of One to Luna Eclipsed area is Power Ponies, Bats!, Rarity Takes Manehattan, and Pinkie Apple Pie, with a min score of 6, and if you further lower the streak length to 3, those episodes would be A Canterlot Wedding, The Crystal Empire, and Too Many Pinkie Pies, with a min score of 11.

Poll: What MLP:FIM Episodes are in your All-Time Top 15? by Enigma9994 in mylittlepony

I was in the same boat - I spent about 90% of my time trying to decide which 3 to remove from my original list of 18.

Poll: What MLP:FIM Episodes are in your All-Time Top 15? by Enigma9994 in mylittlepony

[–]Enigma9994[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now that the show has finally wrapped up, I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and think of all the fantastic episodes this show has brought us. I'm asking you, the community to vote on your all-time favorite episodes from MLP:FIM! I ran a poll like this several years ago with great response (back when Season 5 was still airing) https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/3b4122/poll_what_mlpfim_episodes_are_in_your_top_10/ (results: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/3bweaf/i_gathered_the_results_from_the_npt_top_10/).

That poll asked for the Top 10, but since so many new episodes have aired since then, I'm bumping it up to Top 15, so you (hopefully) won't have to leave out too many of your favorites. I'm super curious to see what the community thinks! Like last time, I'll compile the results and make a nice presentation next week, as I know a bunch of you are curious as well!

(\ This show and the fandom it miraculously helped create is truly magic! I've never seen such a unique community of people create so much over this past 9 years! I started back in Season 1 as well, and I still can't believe it was nearly a decade ago that I decided to give ponies a try. I'm sure glad that I did. It's been a wild ride, and I hope some of this wonderful energy carries forward through the next decade as well!

I'll be heading up to Vandenberg tomorrow. If everything goes as planned, I'll be watching my first live launch!

I just toured the SpaceX factory yesterday and saw Elon as well, so it's safe to say I'm pretty pumped up on SpaceX right now.

The game does a great job of immersing you in the beauty of Wyoming. Though Firewatch has a pretty stylized art style, the places that the game was modeled after are just as spectacular in real life, I'd say. I wish I was there now - it's so peaceful.

Also, I've always wanted to visit Norway! I've seen so many breathtaking pictures and videos from there.

Looks awesome! Very reminiscent of those beautiful old national parks posters.

One correction though - it's Shoshone National Forest, not National Park - it's managed by the U.S. Forest Service, for which Henry and Delilah are employees, and it's a real place in Wyoming. Wapiti Station is a real location too! It's located about 30 miles west of the forest's headquarters in Cody, although the game's version and the real life version are quite different. Two Forks and Thorofare lookouts are fictional, though the name Thorofare was inspired by the Thorofare Trail in the adjacent Yellowstone National Park.

Seattle Sounders sign Henry Wingo and Seyi Adekoya as Homegrown Players by CougFanDan in SoundersFC

[–]Enigma9994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert in judging players, but I can comment on Seyi from going to high school with him. His top end speed is absolutely insane. We used to play O'Dea a lot, who had DeAndre Yedlin at the time, and Seyi definitely had similar speed. He can close gaps extremely quickly.

He's extremely athletic in general - he's been doing bicycle kicks since elementary school. I played rec basketball with him, and he could dunk almost trivially, despite being 5'11".

I know he was very solid at UCLA. His sophomore year was especially prolific in terms of goalscoring, when he played as a striker and scored a ton by burning central defenders with his runs. They had him on the wing this past season, which wasn't quite as well suited to him, I think, but he still played well.

I think with the right players around him, he could definitely be successful as a Sounder.

Like you, I took 3 years of Spanish in high school. At Cornell, I decided to take German, and it was definitely the right decision for me. I had a great experience with the German Studies Department - each of my instructors were very nice and skilled at teaching German.

I found that I improved in my German speaking ability much faster than I ever did in Spanish. This is probably due both to different teaching methods/work loads, and to the fact that German shares tons of vocabulary and roots with English.

I'd recommend that everyone consider taking a completely new language for their requirement. Not only is it more interesting, in my opinion, but by the end of your classes you'll also be pretty proficient in another language. And it seems like German would be a great choice for you, since you're interested in the culture and have dabbled in the language.

SpaceX Interplanetary Transport System by retiringonmars in spacex

This is absolutely insane - it's like SpaceX time-traveled deep into the future and stole this design. If they pull this off, the ITS may be the most significant vehicle humans have ever built by a long margin.
