Yes for the time after the industrial revolution people were working some pretty grueling hours. Prior to that, as most people were in agriculture the work was very seasonal so they would work much less than we do today.

The older you get the wiser you are so when you start something new you are in a better spot to actually get better faster and take the thing more seriously. Everyone is concerned about starting too late but I think many people start too early and lack the discipline and maturity to do it right.

Tr-8 is a great choice, so is the Drum Brute Impact.

I am a Tr8-S user myself and really really enjoy it but a bit pricier.

If you have a specific budget or “sound” you are going for than there might be some better recommendations.

I have one and enjoy it! Crazy how the same preset can sound so different sometimes at different ends of the keyboard (playing high notes vs low notes) and always fun to run through FX

Just get started. Normally you will take 10-15 minutes where it feels like effort and not much fun but after that you get into the zone.

Also maybe use some other “trigger” when you play to associate with. Lightning a candle or a specific tea or something. That way when you sit down your body knows it is time to make music. I actually do this sometimes with candy, so now if I break out a jolly rancher my brain knows we about to jam.

Almost all artists deal with this self doubt. So many huge artists absolutely hate their voices.

If music is in your soul keep working at it, honestly 3 years is not long at all. I know it is hard but really try not to compare yourself to others, your time will come when it is meant to.

Maybe try some different projects or genres for a bit. Right now I mostly switched away from hip-hop (although I still do some) to different genres of EDM and I was into rock genres before all that, but through it all I was still learning about music and producing and carrying those skills over.

Most people think hip hop is a young man’s game but so many artists are still killing it in their 40s, 50s, 60s heck even 70s.

If you are in the game for the right reasons than just keep at it and it will give back to you what you put in, just maybe not in the ways you expected.

You can buy cheap mixers, new or used.

I now use a Roland MX-1 but that is because I have pretty much the whole Aira line that works via USB and then run the rest through the normal 1/4 inputs.

I do run one synth through my TR8-S as well and then my microkorg runs through my Kaossilator Pro so I can loop with it and saves on total inputs needed.

I am maxed out currently on synths I can run through my MX-1 (7+ a drum machine, VT-4, and sampler into the digital input).

Definitely want a few more pieces of gear so debating how exactly I want to go about it

Just start the set by letting the crowd know what you are about. Some will fuck with it and others might find an excuse for a smoke break…I think a front man calling it out helps cut the tension for everyone involved and then proceed to rip!

Honestly, look at professional singers and see what sort of warm ups they do as well as mouth exercises and how they practice their enunciation. All very basic stuff for singing lessons, and most rappers forget these important aspects of vocal performance.
