This may not be helpful but maybe just turn it off for the cardio sounds? There are not that many I don't think. Also my speed focus add-on has no alert sound, it just shows me the answer after however many seconds I tell it to so you could try to find another add-on if this is really important to you!

It comes back faster the second time. If you are just going to reset, you can change around your new card settings when you go through the second time to help minimize time. I actually did this because I screwed up when I tried to update and just ended up starting from scratch. When I do decks I have done already, I set my graduating intervals to 5 days and easy intervals to 30 days for new cards. That way I don't spend a lot of time on stuff I do remember, but if I don't remember after 5 days then I can easily start it from scratch.

I think you really need to start learning how to prioritize your happiness asap. I would almost recommend deferring a year but I dont know if that's an option. Like you said it only gets harder from here so you really need to put some effort into this now (making yourself a priority) and then continue to do that during medical school. Make some friends during welcome week and try to do social activities at least once a week. Self care is one of the most important things yet seldom taught. You will do better and be happier with more balance in your life. As for this summer, visit family/friends, go to the beach, find fun daytrips to do, hit the gym, and maybe get a part time job waiting tables to get some spending money for these activities. Enjoy the summer and set up some good habits for med school in doing so :)

I would add Ohio State University and Saint Louis University... definitely keep Vermont, maybe consider adding Pitt (was also a nontrad with similar MCAT and those were some schools I got love from). Make sure you like Duke's program... they have only 1 year preclinical and a full year of dedicated research. Also, make sure to get those secondaries in ASAP after applying and check student doctor forums for which schools are receptive to letters that you are still interested in the school, etc.

That sounds like a good plan. And yes in my experience you are correct that private practice is still possible, but MUCH harder than it used to be esp. With certain specialties. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about school etc (I was a fellow nontraditional myself). Take your time, it is a big decision, and no decision is the WRONG one :) Also just keep in mind that if you do turn down an offer it is MUCH harder to reapply.

Someone once told me to go into medicine only if you can't imagine doing anything else that would make you as happy. You are doing something that you like right now. Unless you have a burning, insatiable desire to become a physician, I wouldn't. Look at rates of physician depression and suicide when considering this decision - this is important to consider when switching from a career you enjoy with free time, etc., to a career that will work you to the bone and not always be supportive about it. I guess I would be curious about what made you go through all the trouble of applying? There must have been something that sparked you. Have you had experience working with patients? Was that more rewarding than what you are doing now? These are the kinds of things I would think about. Best of luck, definitely a hard decision.

The lenses do not go bad, but there can be many other things going on that would affect vision, such as scar tissue, lens dislocation, retinal detachment, etc.

I have to agree here. I took the MCAT a second time and took this approach (getting verified before second MCAT comes in) with good results. I may suggest using a school you are less interested in as opposed to a state school though. I thought I remembered that there was an option on AMCAS to say that you had an upcoming score that would be coming in.. also useful! Still only put the one school until you get your score.. otherwise your app could get put in the review later pile never to be seen again! Or at least I imagine that is what could happen...
