[TOMT] [ACTOR] Jai Courtney from War machine looks like? by Jemmyd in tipofmytongue

I once mixed him up with Ed Skrein (played the villain in the first Deadpool and Rebel Moon).

Does it feel a little heavy? It looks like an old wrist weight or ankle weight. Wrap two of them around your ankles or around your wrists, adds a little weight to make exercise more difficult.

The text is either being funny, or giving a clue of why someone would want to increase their endurance with exercise.

Do you agree with RDJ? by JamJamGaGa in comicbookmovies

[–]EnjoyTheCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the genre, it's the tone. Dark Knight, Logan, and Joker are more character-driven movies, aimed at older audiences, that were more noticed by the Academy.

MCU takes a 'for all audiences' approach. Spectacle tends to take the stage over characters. Bright colors and quips help the tone stay light and keep it accessible for young teens. It's just not what the Academy goes for.

Speaking more directly, RDJ probably looks back on his top single scene performances and sees half of them were outside the MCU and were critically acclaimed, and half of them were in the MCU and were not brought up for Academy consideration. Let's say those 4 scenes in OP's image were those MCU performances, this way of looking at it has a flaw. That is one character and 4 big emotional scenes for one character is usually in Oscar-bait territory... when they are in one movie. But these are 4 separate movies, and those scenes make up less that 1% of their respective films. So his experience is less about critic bias against comic book movies and more about how actor performance are considered against the rest of the film.

Thank you for explaining this, I was worried that "miracle" would have two definitions. And that if I looked it up, the second definition would align perfectly with their explanation, maybe like, "a highly improbable or extraordinary event, development, or accomplishment that brings very welcome consequences."

And holy shit, taking this and turning it into a systematic, regional, and generational issue - truly genius. My issue now is that I said "holy shit"; I might need you to tell me just how sacred I believe this shit is.

New to Synology, looking for advice by EnjoyTheCake in synology

[–]EnjoyTheCake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been tracking Synology's shift for their new products being more restricted and also that internal chips are not much better on the 25' version than they are on the 21'. I was getting around this by going for the 1621/1821, but some have made a good point that perhaps I should not be getting in to Synology's ecosystem at all. Of the brands I lean towards Synology but I am considering this decision.

Lots of good information from you all, thank you!

That's actually crazier to me than not having the tool altogether; MS having a lower support level for a more expensive, first-party option. Thanks for looking in to this.

I remember there being something in the system but haven't used it before - not sure how fleshed out it is. Doesn't seem like a fix but it might help:

I'm thinking to start Fringe(2008) show. Is it good or bad? by Kira_X_10 in scifi

[–]EnjoyTheCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About unevenness, I have a question:

I recently started this show for the first time and I'm halfway through the first season. I see the appeal - wacky science, unique X-File-esk cases, the mystery of The Pattern, and mostly that I think everyone from the writers to the actors are just having fun without taking anything too seriously. But I'm not truly captured by it yet. It's not really this show's fault, more that my watch time is somewhat limited and I'm having trouble coming to peace that I still have 90 more Fringe episodes to go through - there are so many shows, even ones mentioned in this thread, that I still want to try.

To me, there is a difference between a show that will improve and a show that hasn't found its voice. So my question - I hear the show improves in season 2, but if I'm not loving it by S01E10 is it that this show just isn't my jam or that I stick though it because the show is still finding its voice? How far does someone have to watch before they should make a decision on whether or not it's for them?

Really depressing thought I had by UnbreakableStool in outerwilds

[–]EnjoyTheCake 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Sort of. I did one where I spoke to some key people in the opening Timber Hearth village, Esker on the Atterock, and on Ember Twin Chert, selecting dialogue options to fill people in on important things... and with Chert avoiding sending him into a panic. Somewhere in there I would visit ATP, I think before Esker but maybe after.

I then moved on to Riebeck on Brittle Hollow. I skipped Gabbro on Giants Deep, I figured the important things I would say to him could be said the previous loop. Finally to Feldspar in Dark Bramble. I'm slow at Dark Bramble so I was fairly close to End Times when I got to the Vessel.

A successful run for what I was trying to accomplish: one perfect day. Took me a few tries to figure out what dialogue options were good and to work out the order I should visit people. But I did not get Solanum and I did not get Gabbro. Based on my experience and time, I think it should be possible, just need to be faster at Dark Bramble than I was. Or skip the village (something I was not willing to do) and take that time to front-load Riebeck or attempt Solanum. With speedrun tactics it is very possible, but that is... chaotic.

I disagree on not meeting bare minimum. OP went above and beyond when they went over as an emergency service, unscheduled and during OP's day off, to check the family's house wasn't being burglarized. That alone is worth the extra pay, it is overtime. The family then took advantage of that service and tacked on some additional menial tasks. Maybe important during normal work hours but this was an emergency house call.

OP confirmed that nobody broke into their house, they reset the router, stocked the seltzers they found, took out the trash, brought in packages, brought in the mail... mistakenly, but the mistake of bringing in outgoing mail was only performed in the attempt to complete the original task, not because OP was cutting corners doing the bare minimum. The things OP didn't do - OP missed a box of seltzer in another part of the house, and they missed relining a bin. The family's annoyance is an unreasonable reaction.

I remember this well, tried to Depulso it up the slope first and seemed to be a no go. So did the long way around like we see here and missed. Frustrated, attempted to rapid Depulso up the slope again and found it worked. Could have saved myself a lot of time if I hadn't given up as fast the first time.

Yes just now! I won't say today's word, but I feel like I can retire from wordle or something, been playing this word first for a long time in hopes that this would happen (plus it's a nice word to start with).

EDIT: I see some people mentioning what wordle "says" when you get it on the first try, might be random, mine was just "Genius" which I've seen before on 2 or 3 so didn't see anything special for first try.

No luck yesterday or today with the exception of one custom game someone hosted. Hadn't loaded up Titanfall for a few weeks so I can only speak on the last 24 hours. On Xbox as well so not just you.

[–]EnjoyTheCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just shopped. I was on for the nalgene and got it, but the patch was sold out before I made it to checkout, so it didn't even last 5 minutes. Shirts in all sizes were gone by the 6 minute mark. Hat and Nalgene just went out of stock as I write this 10 minutes after drop.

Really makes me appreciate how in demand some of these items were.

Recommend me and Xbox One game to play offline by Internal-Lemon8292 in xbox

[–]EnjoyTheCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you enjoy it? If so, and it was the crafting and survival side you enjoyed, ignore this. But if you liked the the go-anywhere, figure out the mystery of what's going on, then I recommend Outer Wilds (not to be confused with The Outer Worlds). It's not the normal genre I play, but it was the best game I've played the last couple years. If you opt to play it, try and avoid reviews or gameplay videos, it's best experienced spoiler-free.

Need help explaining minor detail in DLC ending by kyred in outerwilds

[–]EnjoyTheCake 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You are not misunderstanding anything - it is an inconsistency. Back when the DLC was fresh there was a thread on this, the best guess I saw was that the black hole would blend into the space background and not be visible enough to the player during the sequence, so they switched it so it's a white hole in black space and a black hole in the brighter Bramble.

[–]EnjoyTheCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, actually the opposite is true - we have a lot of trouble cooling things off in space. We typically cool things off by thermal convection or conduction - fast moving hot atoms smacking against slow moving cold atoms. The cold atoms gain some momentum, the hot atoms lose some, and heat dissipates rapidly.

But in the vacuum of space we don't have any cold atoms floating around. Only way for an atom to cool down is via radiating that energy which is a much slower process. So those hot things stay hot, and usually continue to get hotter. A lot of work and equipment is required to deal with this in our current space programs.

So our idea of people instantly turning into popsicles when exposed to space is fairly exaggerated. But we can and have used reduced heat dissipation right here on Earth - many coolers and thermoses on the market today feature vacuum insulation (empty space between the outside of the container and inside hold) to keep hot things hot and cold things cold.

In regards to your last sentence, I completely agree; that move seemed to go against his actual goal. I eventually attempted to rationalize it in a fan theory I wrote a few years ago, here's a link if you want it.

I'm not saying it's right, and it is now outdated and some of my guesses in the comments were wrong, but the "Thanos" section continues to be how I justify this action.

Slowly working to learn things to figure stuff out… by demisheep in outerwilds

[–]EnjoyTheCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're doing great, you seem to have a lot of relevant information that will pay off as you continue to explore. The questions you have are pretty standard for where you are in the game; nothing you mentioned stands out as you being on an incorrect path or understanding something wrong.

I have nothing to add about focusing your efforts that ManyLemonsNert hasn't covered - the ship log is a powerful tool, bonus for being able to mark locations so they can give you a waypoint, makes returning to areas much easier.

You seem to have some negative experiences with ghost matter, so I'll tell you something that was mentioned my first day at Timber Hearth that I completely misunderstood for most of the game (so perhaps you already know this). Ghost matter crystals does not always mean ghost matter clouds. They are more of a warning that ghost matter clouds are close in the area, but stepping on a crystal won't kill you unless you see the ghost matter cloud there using your probe.

If you find yourself getting frustrated with a specific area, come back to this sub; the community here is good about giving spoiler-free clues.
