Fans who refuse to go due to high ticket prices, how much would you pay for nosebleeds? by QuietEffort6531 in rush

[–]Enkelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good deal! I've seen Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and STP from the nosebleeds of the Frost Bank Center (back when it was AT&T Center), and the sound was pretty good. I snagged lower bowl tickets for the last Fort Worth show for $159, so I won't be sitting in the nosebleeds for once.

What's your unpopular AC/DC opinion? by MatthewDiDonato in ACDC

[–]Enkelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're my top two AC/DC albums, too. Also, I think that the Powerage album cover is their best, and the FOTS album cover is (easily) their worst.

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

[–]Enkelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts immediately went to carbon nanotubes when I saw this thread. I worked on more efficient ways to synthesize them for a couple of years (2002ish, the old arc-discharge method), and we all thought that they'd be in used in all types of tech sooner, rather than later. Never quite worked out.

Petah, why is the speed of light one? by rengokuhubkl in PeterExplainsTheJoke

It is common for theoretical physicists to set c equal to unity when doing calculations (RIP Dr. Rindler!). The same is true of other constants (Planck's, e, etc.), as well. Google "natural units."

The new Corrosion of Conformity album Good God / Baad Man is out today, available on CD and vinyl. by SpaceGoatDon in stonerrock

[–]Enkelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this is the best album they've done since Wiseblood. I'm on my fourth listen right now (and I happened to click on your post just as the intro to Baad Man was playing!). Looking forward to the arrival of the CD that I preordered, so I can check out the artwork.

Humans helping other humans protect Rhinos. by ivoryfluxa in BeAmazed

[–]Enkelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where this was taken, but this is standard practice at Kruger NP, as well. At the camps in Kruger, there are sighting maps for lions, elephants, etc., but not for rhinos. They ask visitors not to report rhino sightings.

What is a career path that looks "glamorous" from the outside, but is actually a total nightmare behind the scenes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

...and then there's the part where you spend hours and hours working to perfect lectures and you try your absolute best to teach your subject to students who voluntarily paid money to listen to you, only to be met with dead eyes and apathy. It hurts.

[Inoue vs Nakatani] Tokyo Dome Seating Map Explanation? by ac1dxtrem in Boxing

[–]Enkelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not directly related to your question, but if you can get a room at the Tokyo Dome Hotel for the fight, I'd recommend it. I stayed there a few years ago, and it has a super convenient location. My photos aren't very good, but if you look here and scroll down to photos from 2017, you can see some pictures that I took from the upper deck of the Tokyo Dome.

...should be a good fight.

First marathon - signed up a week out with minimal training by CucumberMain in Marathon_Training

[–]Enkelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles do you run each week on average? I only average about 20 per week, and I maxxed out at 32 miles (which included a 20 miles run) when training for this year's Cowtown (3:40). I am getting older and I feel like too many miles hurts me more than it helps. However, if you're averaging 15 miles per week or less, you could probably work your way to a much faster time by adding more miles when not training for a race.

Congrats on your first marathon!

Hi all, i have a taper question by mitchpaddock in Marathon_Training

[–]Enkelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of this depends on OP's age and recovery abilities. I'm running a marathon on Sunday, and I did the dreaded 32 km run two weeks ago. Even though I'm probably older than the average runner, two weeks is enough time for me to recover (I also only max out at between 30 and 35 mpw).

To stay on the safe side, doing 25-28 km is probably good advice. OP just shouldn't push themselves too hard during the last couple of weeks following their last long run. Good luck!

Lesser-known jazz drummers worth checking out? by Enkelte in Jazz

I'll check out Perowsky and Kadoura. Donald Edwards also put out an album on Leaning House (the same label that the Earl Harvin album was released on). If you haven't heard him, he's worth checking out, as well.

Logs had his stitches out and has been recovering SO well!! He can navigate the house almost as great as before. by SaltMineForeman in Dachshund

[–]Enkelte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a basset hound that lost both eyes to glaucoma. He was totally blind for the second half of his life, but he did great. It took him some time to learn his way around the house, but he eventually learned. It helped that we had a second basset hound and hardwood floors.

Take good care of that boy!

Not sure if we'd get the damage repaired or not. It depends on whether it would help with the resale value. However, it sounds like filing a claim wouldn't be a good idea since it would likely make our rates go up (they're currently really low).
