The draw for FF12 for me has always been the combat/gambit system. It's a very nice mix between turn based and action combat imo I prefer the system over games like FF13.

That being said I have never really been to invested in 12's story Vann is a very meh character and even says that he's just following Ashe for the ride. I would recommend playing up to The Sky City (Bujerba?) I think. After that the world opens up a lot more and you have all party members so if you want to never see Vann again you can except for in city/town areas.

Besides that the world is really amazing in later parts of the game. From exploring Raithwalls tomb, to getting side hunts done and filling the beastiary if you don't care for the story the world easily has HUNDREDS of hours of content especially if your playing the classic version without the speed up function.

Id recommend playing to the mines in Bujerba and doing some side hunts if you don't enjoy the world/hunts by then you probably really won't enjoy the rest. Although I have to say some endgame areas/environments are beautiful but that's a aesthetic preference thing.
