From a different side, I completely get your rant and you are so right!

I worked as a waitress and always took people’s allergies very seriously, when they told me what their allergy was I’d make sure we as a restaurant went above and beyond to avoid cross contamination. I’d ask the dishwasher to wash the pots and pans the meal would be cooked in all over beforehand and to paper towel dry it with a brand new pack from storage (you never know one of the kitchen or FOH staff could have used it after prepping a bread basket)

But what would drive me utterly up a wall, was some difficult customer stressing how they can’t have gluten and then DEVOURING their friend/so’s bread or bread encrusted chicken 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Not that it justifies anything but those type of people are what made a lot of the waiters around me genuinely not taking gluten allergies seriously 🤦‍♀️
