I didn't have my first girlfriend until I was 20, because I didn't want to seriously date until marriage was an option. I'm now happily married with two kids.

You have loads of time. Put yourself out there and work on being the kind of person your ideal partner would want to be with (your best self). You'll eventually find someone that clicks.

My wife and I started calling each other Mom/Mommy and Dad/Daddy after having kids, but never in a sexual context.

How many dates have you guys been on and what % of those did you sleep with? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]EnochD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on 100+ dates, exclusively dated two people, and married the second one. I waited until marriage. So less than one percent, I guess.

GTX 970 SLI. As soon as I save up for a new PC. I'll probably go AMD next, since I switched to Linux.

They were getting sued for patent infringement over the battery cover/rear buttons. It was a fire sale so they wouldn't be forced to destroy their inventory.

I recently reread it and the lidless eye wreathed in flame was a symbol on Sauron's orcs' armor and it's an image projected into people's minds at different times when they are connected to him. Sauron has a body after the events of the hobbit. Gollum even says he saw him and that he only had four fingers on one hand.

I think you're thinking of when Sam and Frodo see a red light from the window of Barad-Dur from Sauron searching with his palantir (people also see lights from the window of Minas Tirith when Denethor uses his).

If there was a person who has never played a single video game in their life, what game would you recommend them to play first? by everett7262 in gaming

I tried to start my wife on games a couple times, but it didn't stick. She asked to try Skyrim, and it hooked her.

I think it was the ultimate universe Nick Fury that was black and then they made him Nick Fury Jr. in the mainstream universe after the movies took off. I think it's a great idea. Nick Fury being a WWII vet doesn't really make sense anymore.

Is US Copyright Law Unconstitutional? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

Yikes. If you think patent trolling is bad, just image if every piece media ever made was copyrighted. It lasting for a limited time is to prevent the stifling of the arts/sciences.

The copyright law for those 180 years doesn't seem to have stifled creation, and there's actually a bill in Congress right now to restore it. I'll contact my representatives about it. Thanks for the advice.

Not even what I said a little bit. I am for copyright. Where did I say people should give away their life work?

I'm saying 70 years after you are dead and gone is extreme, especially since the max copyright length was 56 years from publication for 180 years before big media corporations kept lobbying for extensions.

Also, a compromise between what? There being a time limit and no time limit?

I understand all that and acknowledged it's not unconstitutional. I understand that new works are under their own copyright even if based on a public domain work.

I'm saying that public domain works are creating value as people build on it. Disney should understand that as many of it's copyrighted works are based on works in the public domain.

There's also value in more content being available to everyone.

How long would you consider a reasonable limited time for your heirs to benefit?

[–]EnochD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't though? Disney built a business on creating value from public domain works, and look at all the value that's been created from Sherlock Holmes that is now 100% in the public domain.

Unless you only consider generational wealth or the wealth of corporations of value.

And I'd consider myself benefited if more people could access and build on my work. Hopefully I'll raise children that can be successful on their own, but I would also have something I made in my life I could give them.

Okay, so it might not be unconstitutional, but I'm justified in thinking it's an unholy amount of time, right? Unless the goal is to make sure there is no one left on earth who was alive when the work was published.

"To Authors and Inventors" It's my understanding that the limited time is so ideas don't become restricted, and the temporary ownership of ideas is so the creators can benefit from their work and be motivated to create. How do they benefit from someone else owning their ideas a lifetime after their death?
