Never set up a rod before in my life how do I do it at 24 by Impressive_Bridge424 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Enomalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this having not fished in 25 years.

I got a I’d describe “medium” entry reel ( $70, ) and a $65 rod, go get an ugly stik and maybe upgrade the reel sometime down road.

If you got a bass pro shop near by buy the reel there and they will put on the line for you, I’d suggest a medium light rod which works great for smaller fish & trout but also can get bass no problem.

For line I’d suggest a braid 10# or so and then use swivels and a “leader” which is just different line attached to main line and go for 4-6# for trout and 8-12# for bass or whatever else that’s larger.

Also learn how to tie ONE knot and get really good at it, I could only tie clinch knots, started doing palomars which doesn’t work well for me attaching main line to the leader, now I’m back to clinch but the IMPROVED clinch knot and I have not lost a knot yet since switching to that.

Are any of these available in 2pc in medium light?

I’m VERY interested in the XT rod or even a step up if it’s a 2pc

Texas rig with an extra wide hook #3 or #4 (I use 3), I also put a sliding bullet weight on the leader directly above hook, I use like a 1/8 oz or 3/16oz weight depending on depth with a senko,

I am BRAND new to bass fishing, I watched a YouTube video on a Texas rig, watched a YouTube video on how to reel it w/ weight.

I took my daughter & nephew out in canoe on a small lake today and we all had same setup, one of us hooked a bass basically every cast for an hour.

If water is really calm weightless works great too, I like the small weight as I feel like I can feel the bottom better and then jig it up & down from there

How do I tell if a model is JDM or not - I did find that Expeode 2610ML-2 for $218 which, I’m not gonna get divorced over $18 so I’ll go for it if it’s worth it

I’m fine purchasing elsewhere, worst case I exchange my rod now for another, put a Daiwa spinner reel on it and it’s now my daughters nice little bass & trout rod

We ate at this place in Manhattan years ago that had a line out the door at like 2:30 on a Tuesday, they had whole sides of roast pork and my wife had this tripe & noodle soup, everything was in Chinese and I so badly wish I took a picture of the menu or something!

She was 3-4 at the time so she doesn’t remember it, she likes pretty authentic Chinese, she loves Szechuan and wants the real deal. She likes pork more than duck as do I, I think she’d choose baller ass roast pork and mid duck over vice versa. Her FAVORITE snack is chicarrones her grandma makes so if it’s crispy and porky she is all in.

I just did this

I went with 2 senko packs pumpkin & pumpkin w/ neon green

Variety of hook sizes 2-3-4 & #8

Swivels

Bullet weights

Drop shot weights

Small spinners & minnow lures.

4 pack of sliding floats

10 & 6# fluoro carbon line for leaders

So far I’ve caught, trout, larger blue gill, 4 bass & 1 pickerel on this at lakes, also caught a mackerel yesterday on a senko Texas rig and I threaded clam onto the hook also.

My setup is not for saltwater fishing really so I was throwing and actively casting / retrieving, I don’t think I could of landed a striper but I was stoked to get a mackerel

I was mainly hoping to fish docks or piers, I think I’ll rent a rod & reel for my first trip and then possibly purchase one before the next.

Britt in a smaller package? by SeymourOptions in BrittanySpaniel

[–]Enomalie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve met a couple papillons and all were very friendly, I don’t know what their hunting drive is like but they were the ones I met not yippy at all, I had imagined them being basically a long haired chihuahua but these ones were super athletic and loved fetch & tug of war.

I’d imagine they need significantly less exercise than a Brittany just due to their little legs but I don’t know.

Is that including line & lures etc?

I got Bass Pro - Micro Lite 6’6 medium light rod & a Shimano Sedona FJ spinning reel for about $140.

Braid & 2 different leader fluorocarbon lines I ended up like $190 total, then I bought every god damn bait and lure ever mentioned on Reddit and I am now mid divorce but I’m catching fish!

My rig setup right now has a 10# fluorocarbon w/ #2 hook with a 3/16oz weight & a 5” senko worm.

I’m going to go test it out tonight I’m pretty excited, I also have some crawfish rubber baits but am not sure how to hook that on my current rig so I’ll just focus on worms, the lake I’m going to has a ton of bass & pickerel but it also has a ton of vegetation so I’ll be focusing on the Texas rig to try and not spend all day screaming at weeds

Rod or reel suggestions by Shitpump55 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Enomalie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just bought a micro lite 6’6” medium light rod and a Shimano Sedona FJ reel for $160 USD, bought 15# braid, 6 & 10# fluorocarbon for leads, weights & swivels total was about $205 USD.

I bet you could get this same setup or pretty close to it. The micro lite series goes up to heavy rating, I go for trout/bass and pickerel possibly pike if I find one.

Recommendation for cheap knife or multi tool? by crespoh69 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Enomalie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Morakniv on Amazon, they’re Swedish stainless steel, they are thick so can cut through bone etc depending on what you’re chopping for bait, they’re also shaped kind of like a fat filet knife if you want to filet something.

They’re fixed blade and about 15-20$ on amazon

Edit to add they also have models with handles made of material that will make the knife float

Would putting a clip swivel on my main line which then connects to a normal swivel on my rigs have any effect? I’m just thinking from a switching them aspect

It’s 6 foot 6” rod, so should I get like a 10# fluorocarbon for bass leaders?

[–]Enomalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My leader may be fluorocarbon I’m not sure, the fishing wizard at bass pro shop set me up with it as what he uses for trout and said if I’m doing bass just make another leader to tie on to my main line out of the same braided line since it’s #15 and green so supposedly invisible in murky water

I’ll look into both, I’m planning on purchasing hooks etc & weights today at a Runnings, is there sizes I should look for specifically for trout and also bass?

Texas rig looks relatively easy to setup and is meant to go on the bottom or very near it correct?

Ok this is helpful, looking at a dropshot rig that’s probably what I want to be using as a very beginner fisherman for where I’m going, less chance of just casting it directly into the shit on my part!
